Off Limits, Brother's Best Friend Chapter 116
Chapter 116: We Have A Problem
Brianna
“Take care of Coco.” Genevieve said and then paused to look at me.
“Cute shoes,” she said before slamming the door in my face. I just looked down at this fluffy white dog in a ruffle skirt with its tongue half sticking out. I have no idea what to do with this dog, or where to linger for two hours while she sleeps.
Her assistant caught up with me and told me she would take the dog. She gave me some information I needed, so I told her I would be back in two hours and to be sure Miss. Nnaji was ready when I got back here.
When the two hours were up, I went back upstairs and knocked but no response. She may still be sleeping or in the shower so I knocked harder this time, yet no response. I pulled my phone out and called her assistant, she gave her number earlier. It rang several times before she picked up.
“Umm, is Miss. Nnaji ready? Sorry, this is Brianna.” She hesitated a moment.
“Brianna, we have a problem.” She said and my stomach churned.
“What?” A sigh came from the other line.
“I knocked at her door earlier and she didn't answer, I am looking around the hotel for her right now.”
“You are kidding.” I gripped my head.
“Okay, I will be right down. We can ask the staff to pull up the security footage. Hopefully, we can see what floor she went to.” I told the girl.
I had been in the lobby for two hours while she slept. I would have noticed if she walked by. She would have brought attention to herself. When I rushed down to the lobby, I asked the staff if we could review the cameras. They were giving me a hard time about it but I showed my vogue credentials and they were suddenly much more accommodating. Her assistant whose name I finally relearned is Edith was speaking with the staff in their language to save us time.
“They said most of the cameras don't work but the ones outside.” She told me.
“Okay, look at that, at least we will know if she is in the building or not.” She nodded several times and quickly communicated everything I said to them to pull the footage and there it was, right before all our eyes.
It was about four of us huddled over a small computer, watching Genevieve Nnaji get into the car of a man and drive off.
“No!” I gasped.
We rewound the footage and poor Edith tried to see the tiny face in the still frame to see if she recognized the man. I was already writing down the make, model and license plate number of the car but I also snapped a picture of the still frame.
“Call her right now.” I ordered the assistant.
We started frantically, calling her and got no response and panic began to set in. This is my job, I am failing right now. Janet will be furious if Genevieve doesn't show up. Think, Brianna. It was a good thing my hair was slicked into a ponytail because I was getting hot. I needed to find this damn girl, where would she go? I know nothing about her, so I started trying to find clever ways to track her down. I went on all her social media to see if she posted herself anywhere, but nothing. The assistant ran upstairs to talk to her other associates and because she left the damn dog in the room. She came running back down with the dog under her arm, waving her phone and letting me know she got through.
“She is with a friend, she said we have plenty of time, I told her you said she had to come now.” She shoved the phone at me.
“Well, if you are going to be such a party pooper then you have to come pick me up because Ken isn't going back there.” She told me in her snobbish tone of voice.
I pinched the bridge of my nose and told her to tell me where she was. I jotted down the address and waved to the assistant to follow me.
“We need a car,” I said to her.
“Yes, from where”? She asked.
Neither of us had one and at the hour, the ride would be busy and the wait would be too long. I rushed out to the parking lot without even really knowing what to do with myself. In my sheer panic of finding her, I found myself jogging across the parking lot and flagging down a man with a widow's peak and a suit coat that was far too tight for his rotund stomach.
“Sir, are you busy? There is a crisis, I need someone to drive me somewhere.” I said outright.
He looked confused and Edith came up and said it again in their language. He looked weirded out at first but when she mentioned Genevieve Nnaji, the man waved us to his car. What is happening right now? I found myself in a tiny car with a large London man, an assistant to a famous person and a dog that never had its tongue in its mouth. We rushed off to the address we had been given and all I could do now was wait. When I saw Janet's call my heart dropped. I hushed everyone in the car and picked up the call.
“Janet,” I said.
“Is everything going well?” She asked.
“Umm, yes, everything is fine.” I lied.
“Good, the fitting is in an hour, so I expect you to be there in time.” She gave me her warning in her light accent and full blown flat tone. I hung up and told the man to hurry up.
We finally pulled up to this seemingly random house, I jumped out of the car and knocked on the door. A woman answered but my attention immediately went to the yelling voice behind her and when I heard a crashing sound, I shoved past the woman and called for Genevieve. The man Ken was calling out to her who was currently throwing random culinary items to him.
“Genevieve?” I called and the girl with her big movie star eyes and perfectly blown out hair looked at me with a scowl.
“We have to go,” I deadpanned, not even asking what was going on.
She turned to the counter and threw a glass clean actor into the room. It shattered and Ken ducked, she continued to yell and I have no idea what she was saying but I needed her to leave right now.
“Genevieve!” I called a little louder.
“I will not leave until he begs for my forgiveness.” She said and I gasped at this dark haired, fair skinned woman who looked like a beautiful nightmare in front of me. Then I turned to the man.
“Ken, just apologize, please. I have to get her fitted, I will lose my job.” I begged the man, he didn't speak English so I wasted my breath. She threw a cup, a stirring spoon and she would have thrown the pan too if I didn't finally snap and shout.
“Enough!” My chest was heaving from nerves and adrenaline because of this ticking clock looming over me.
“I need to get you to this fitting, I will lose my job!” I said louder and with more authority. She scowled at the man but put the pan down. She said something to him as I rushed forward and grabbed her wrist.
“Don't touch me!” She scowled and ripped it away from me. I apologized but tried guiding her out of the house.
When we got outside and she saw the car we were in, she cringed like she saw shit on her shoe.
“What is that?” She asked.
“The car that was meant to pick you up is back at the hotel you were supposed to be at. This man is nice enough to drive us here.” I explained, trying to usher her into the car.
“I won't go in,” she turned her nose up at it. I was ready to strangle her but I couldn't or she could complain to Janet about it. I coaxed her with words and promised before she finally got into the back seat.
I looked at the time and gut clenched, I have twenty minutes left. I told the man to step on the gas and take us to this location and he agreed.
“Umm, Brianna, we have to stop for a moment, Coco is giving the the signal to use the bathroom.” Edith said.
“You are kidding? Can she wait just a little longer?” I asked and she gave me an apologetic look.
“She may do it in the car.” She whispered, I cursed but asked the man to pull over for a second. I took the fluffy dog with its blank stare and placed it down to do its business.
“Come on,” I kept saying under my breath. I switched weight between one foot and the other in anticipation of her finishing, so we can get out of here.
“For damn sake, take your shit, Coco and let's go!” I yelled at the poor dog.
It squatted and started walking funny until finally she peed. I snatched the dog and jumped back in the car, the damn thing stared at me from my lap and with the nerves in my body keeping me on edge, I gave the dog back to Edith. If there is god, he needs to have mercy on me and let there be no traffic. I began picturing Janet screaming at me in front of everyone, telling me I failed my one simple task. The one single thing she asked me to do today, we were down to the wire here.
