Off Limits, Brother's Best Friend Chapter 82
Chapter 82: I Am Living Out Of My Dream
Brianna
I didn't know how one month went by so fast, I haven't stopped for even a second since I decided I wanted to say yes to Elizabeth’ offer to move to London for this internship. Bryce and I had a strained relationship after what happened to Callan but when I told him about the work opportunity I was offered, he agreed I should do it. Whether that was to keep me away from his best friend or because he was sick of looking at me, I didn't know. I guess the distance has helped square away the lingering resentment he had for me. We text often and try to facetime once a week just to keep up with each other's day to day lives and I always have so much to report.
Things happened so fast, when I told Elizabeth that I am willing to move with her, she told me we had to settle our accommodation there and since I am working for her, I am gaining a wage. Nothing too fancy, just a small apartment over a quaint cafe and I love it. The first week, I was here, I was here as a tourist. Jane really did just up and leave with me and we toured all London has to offer and even made friends fast. That is because she is so outgoing, she attracts people to her easily and I really love this place. I won't lie and say I don't miss my brother and other aspects of Port Harcourt I had only just started having there. I had friends like Zaveri, Sandra, Kate and I had Callan. A subject I haven't let myself open since stepping on that airplane. He hasn't spoken to me since the day we had that fight weeks ago and I hate when I dream about him and this pit roots in my stomach for the day after. I honestly have so many new things going on though, that is the perfect distraction.
Elizabeth and I do get along well, she had me doing more minor tasks the first month but now, she seems to be giving me more and taking me along to some beautiful cool places. I got to work on the set of a film, we were right by the tower which is such a pretty sight. She was in charge of styling the main characters of the movie and it was awesome to watch and be a part of it. I am learning a lot from her, she is still a stern woman but she is such a lady-boss badass. I can't blame her for her elegant, yet no nonsense attitude. She gets things done, she isn't afraid to reem a man out if he isn't respecting her as a female entrepreneur. She knows what she wants and when she wants it. I will be with her for a few months more, so something tells me I will grow on her a lot more. She isn't one to show feeling, so you really never know if she likes you or just tolerates you
Jane and I do have a mini veranda that overlooks a cute little street that smells like baguettes in the morning. The space is really cute, although the building had old bones because most their architectures is much older than within my country. The walls are a stark with lots of crown molding to design the space. One long window ie what opens to the veranda and we have a non fictional fireplace that has got this large decorative mirror above it. We also have a simple brick brownish square back sofa and that is what you see when you first enter our front door. I was styled every place I lived with fresh pink peonies, it is always my personal adfed touch to my home wherever I might be. The apartment isn't very large, we don't have a dining room or even a kitchen table. To the right of the small living is a marble half wall counter that sections off the kitchen for the living room and beside that square off section is two mini half halls that leads to our bedroom. We have kept it modern and cute, my room is narrowed and I have comfy bed, the walls are also done of the same style crown moldings. I have a circular side table, corner chair and a window overlooking the street off the main street.
We tried learning conversational language, though that needs a lot of work and having all our new friends speaks the language helps. They will break out into it and we kind of have to try and follow along. They will teach us word and hold us accountable for remembering them. It is good to know more than one language in the fashion industry because you will meet people from around the world and not every fashion designer speak fluent English. It just makes me look even better when I am able to converse with the models or stylist or whoever might be the person I am working with.
Today is Sunday which means I don't have work, I like their culture. They start the day later than my country does and they end the day later. They aren't so rushed about everything either, it is not uncommon to sit at a cafe for lunch and finish it off with an espresso and some conversation instead of the thirty minute lunch breaks we had. A lot of people smoke here too, so they will have their cigarettes and just hang out before taking a leisurely walk or something like that. The fashion world is a little more fast paced here but the rest is centered around pleasure not career and work. Since it is a Sunday morning, it is also the day I usually call my brother. With the five hour difference we have to be mindful about when we are calling one another. So we planned to call this time today, but most of the time we choose a more practical hour to call.
Jane isn't awake, so the apartment is quiet. We always keep the shared bathroom door between us closed to muffle sound from either room. I just leaned against my headboard, covered to the stomach in my puff comforter while the phone rang. I could see he was in a suit which means he wasn't out for pleasure but for work.
“Hey,” I smiled, I saw him walking further into a room as he said hello.
“How are you?” I asked.
“I am in the office at The Emerald Lounge. We were going to meet with a client of ours but something was up for them.” I arched my brow.
“Meeting a client in a club?” He chuckled.
“That is how certain business is done, it does not suit the office with what we do.” He replied, I guess I have come around to the idea of him being in the mafia.
I don't really know what else I could even do about it, maybe coming around isn't the correct way to put it. I have just decided not to think too much about it, I am an ocean away and dealing with my own career, I just don't want to dwell on other things.
“What are you up to? It is already morning there, right?” He asked like the light from my window wasn't flooding in.
“It is my day off, so I am probably going to just hang around the house with Jane unless she makes plans for us because you know her. She decided things at random.” I chuckled.
Bryce has known her for years, so he does know her character pretty well by now. When we first moved here, Bryce was very curious to see where we were living and in what neighborhood. Even when he was mad at me, he still liked the protective brother act. I facetime him and showed him a walkthrough i of the whole place and even the view from the veranda.
“Anything fun going on at work?” He asked the same question he usually does.
“Elizabeth has been hired to style this rich woman for a few events. The woman came up and I got to sample a pair of my heels that were to die for.” I sighed in contentment of the memory.
“Are you supposed to try on other people's shit?” He laughed.
“It is not like that, we have sample items to show to the woman, they don't actually belong to her. If the woman likes a look we pull, it is for her in her own size. So I am usually hanging around a bunch of clothing that is essentially props. I indulge sometimes, Elizabeth totally does it too. Although I doubt she would admit it.” I smiled.
“You look happy, kiddo.” He noted my mood.
“I am living out the dream here, if I play my cards right, I will be doing a lot more important stuff here and networking for the future. Elizabeth isn't my favorite job, this internship is an important step though.”
