Chapter 160: A Car Bomb 

Callan

I was at the warehouse with some of my men overseeing the shipment that should be going out tonight.

“I have a bad fucking feeling about this one, I don't like the way Shadow mafias have been acting. If they destroy this load, I am out way too much money and the Ikoyi syndicate will expect that I get their shit regardless of my problems here which means double the loss for me. I want you guys to be on guard, I am sending more men with this one.” I said to the few men I had rounded up to discuss this with.

I was feeling antsy ever since Blank Knight's men started showing themselves around the outskirts of my territory, almost like they were taunting us and letting us know they were around and something was coming. When the guys go, Bryce comes closer to me so he could lower his voice to speak more privately.

“Callan, how worried do I have to be about this? Brianna is out and about for work and it makes me uncomfortable that you think shit is about to go down. I trust your gut.” He told me. And he is right, I am rarely ever wrong.

“Did you put men on her like you asked me?” I hadn't checked on it since, I can't. That is his business, his family and his problem.

“Yes, but still.” He rubbed his neck and looked down in thought.

“I don't know if it is smarter not to tell her that it is a dangerous time or if I should warn her so she is more alert. I just didn't want her knowing about this, she isn't comfortable with what I do for work as it is. She won't like this, she will worry too much.” He huffed.

He has only got her, the rest of their family is shit. I should know, I almost killed their father once and his sister is his weak spot. So I don't blame him for worrying that she could be targeted, especially now that she is in the limelight. That really isn't good for mafia business. Is she in danger? I don't like how that feels in my gut which only pisses me off.

“Put more men on her, it is your call whether you tell her or not.”

I am staying out of it, he just nodded and walked off without another word. He looked contemplative, this looming mafia war really a nuisance to me. Business was running so smoothly and now they want to give me a hard time because they want to run guns through the east coast. Well, fuck them, they aren't getting it. No matter what they throw at me, I will prepare and I will win. I don't accept any other outcome.

I had been home just overlooking the panoramic view my penthouse window offers and I couldn't shake this feeling. Tonight is the shipment and something just doesn't feel right, I couldn't stay home. I had to go oversee everything myself, I need to figure out what is bothering me about this. Bryce was there for me tonight but I just can't leave it alone. I need to be there. 

I drove back to the warehouse again, leaving the car on the end of the lot so I wouldn't get in the truck's way once they pulled out. I walked the rest of the way down, I was greeted by a guy named Jim, he is a guy under one of my capos who works closer to the outskirts of my city. He is one of the men who reported to me his observation of those idiots poking around. I had him come help with this, he is a decent guy with a good eye which is what I want tonight. While I was walking towards the warehouse, he was walking away from it. He stopped in front of me when I looked at him.

“Where are you going?” I asked him, he has orders to be here.

“No where, Boss. Just moving my car, we have everything loaded up and secured. We have a couple cars meeting us down the lot, so I am leaving the car here.” He let me know. He has this little coupe I could see just past the fire hydrant. I nodded for him to continue on his way. He stopped walking a second time and turned back to me.

“Don't worry, Boss. We have everything running tight.” He gave me a nod of assurance.

“That is what I like to hear.” I gave him a nod back.

I was about to get to the loading dock area when he unlocked his car with the little beep sound the cars make and just after that, I heard the boom that rattled the ground beneath me. I actually stumbled with the  force of the quick blast, my ears started ringing and I pulled my gun right away as I looked around me to see what the fuck just happened. All my men started running outside with their guns drawn but they all stopped beside me when we saw there was nothing to run to. What was left of the car was on fire but Jim and most of the car's metal were blown away. A car bomb, I found this particularly nasty because the history of the Blank Knight car bomb was actually a very sensitive topic in the country which refers back to the trouble and the car bombing that killed and injured a lot of people.

It was since lingered in name by a country drink but here it was, an actual bombing of my men's car. A fucking car I was near. My ears were ringing and I felt someone grab me but my eyes were fixed in front of me. Pink mist was all that was left of my man Jim and body parts further down the lot.

“Boss,” I heard a lot of men saying.

“Callan, you are bleeding.” I realized Bryce was the one that grabbed me. I looked down and I could see a bunch of small cuts in my shirt from tiny bits of shrapnel and glass that blew past me. I was cut in some places and I didn't even feel it yet, my ears were still ringing.

I snapped out of it and whirled around to the men who looked pretty shocked and confused. Bombings are a new one for us.

“Where is Jim?” One of my men asked but the other guy clasped his shoulder and whispered to him.

“Someone get a fucking sheet! Don't leave our guy out there in pieces.” I finally snapped. I have never seen this before.

In the military, Bryce and I saw some worse carnage than this, but still you never want to see one of you men turn to burnt pieces of flesh spread out. It is a fucked up image, some of my men turned away. The soldier in me surfaced and I ran out there and started collecting the pieces.

“Callan, let someone else do it. Take your shirt off and let me look at you.” Bryce followed me. The sound of that bomb brought me back to the past.

Carnage, war, missions, brother lost. The fucked up shit we were asked to do on mission so secret you would never hear a word about it in your life. You would never know it was us responsible.

“Get a fucking sheet.” I snapped at my best friend to make my point again. 

Some of my men were trying to tap the hydrant to get some water spraying on the burning car, if I stayed where I was standing, I would have been pink mist just like poor Jim. That was cutting it way too close for me, I am so angry that I don't even realize I am angry yet. I am so focused on cleaning this up, we were near a reservoir for the purpose of being somewhere discreet end with no people around to see our movement. Nobody would have heard the blast, so I know no police or firefighters are coming. Somebody finally cranked the hydrant enough that it started spraying everywhere. Anthony guy of mine went and grabbed the fire extinguisher we kept on hand in my building. When they put the fire out, all that was left was a melted chunk of metal and chair.

“Boss, are you alright?” One of them asked me when I walked back into the warehouse with a few bloody cuts shredded through my shirt and blood on my hands from the mess I cleaned up. I shouldn't call this mess because it was actually one of my men, this is on me.

“Listen up!” I yelled to everyone in the warehouse.

They all scurried over and stood straight, awaiting my words.

“We already know who the fuck did this, Jim's car was on the outskirts, so there could be more of these. I have men who can sweep our popular area for any more of this kind of stuff. This shipment needs to be out of this city tonight. Now more than ever.”
