Chapter 36: Don't Tell Me What To Do

“Why did you even buy those shoes?” I asked Callan, I couldn't picture him shopping.

“The day we went there, while you were checking yourself out in the mirror.”

I do remember seeing him chatting with the lady at the counter, I just didn't realize he was buying me something.

“You didn't even know if I had the money at that time, you just assumed I didn't?” I wasn't sure if I should be offended or not.

“I knew,” he deadpanned, he was calling my bluff the whole time. I knew he didn't believe me, I sighed.

“Just wear the shoes.” He muttered.

“I know you already have an outfit picked out to match with.”

He was right, I do have a very cute outfit planned out.

“I don,” I sighed.

“Good, now show me.” He said and I paused.

“I thought you said you want no more pictures?” I was surprised.

“An outfit hardly crosses my mind.” He replied.

“Okay, I will change now.” I got kind of excited, we hung up and I rushed to my room to get ready before my shift at work. I guess this is what I am wearing today.

When I finished, I went in front of my full-length mirror and took a picture of myself. I know I shouldn't accept these shoes but I also know he won't take them back. I am surely not throwing them away so I guess I will keep them. I can't let him buy me anything else, he might be rich but I am nobody to him so he shouldn't be spending money on me. I don't know if that was a kink or whatever especially when he wants to stay away from me. When I took a cute enough picture, I sent it to him and my insides kept fluttering with excitement about the shoes but also for having a line of communication with him again.

'Damn it.’ That was his only response which sort of confused me.

'What.' I texted back and his response actually made me laugh.

'You somehow make tweed look sexy as fúck.’

'Thanks you again for the shoes, you can't buy me anything else ever.’ I laid down my own rules for him to follow. If I can't send pictures, he can't purchase things for me.

'Don't tell me what to do.’ He said and I just sent him an annoyed emoji.

He stopped texting after that, I smiled when I looked at myself in the mirror again. I love this outfit, it makes me feel good.

I ended up getting a text from David that he was driving me to work today, he hasn't done that in a while so I accepted the offer. He was already waiting for me by the time I got downstairs and I slid into the back seat and leaned forward.

“Hello, long time no see.” I smile at him.

I asked him if he would rather I sit up in the front with him so he doesn't feel like my driver but he told me his boss wouldn't like that. Whether he meant Bryce or Callan, I don't know.

“How are you?” He asked so formally.

“Oh, cut the formal talk. How did you get suckered into driving me today?” I asked, he chuckled and ran a hand over his hair to smooth it down.

“Mr. Harold asked me to, so here I am.” He shrugged, I squinted at him through the rear view mirror.

“Did he tell you why he wanted that?” I found it suspicious, he pressed his lips together and shook his head.

“No, he doesn't often explain himself. He tells me to do something and I do it.” I believe him, Callan Harold doesn't seem like a man who listen to anyone.

I glanced down at my shoes and shook my head, I don't understand him. He called my outfit sexy, we obviously have some sort of sexual attraction between us but he shuts me down when I try to act on it a little bit.

“I am not sure if I will be picking you up or not, your brother needs me a little bit. I will text you to let you know either way.” He said.

“That's fine.” I waved him off.

I can just order a ride as I always do, it is not a long drive at all so it wasn't expensive. Besides, my brother has me on his account for whatever reason so it is technically being charged to him. I guess that is why he allows me to do it, he keeps telling me he wants to pay for my shit and take care of me now that he could but I am still not used to it. He is the only family I have so he is precious to me. We do have extended family but the relationship was strained when we left our parents. I don't think people know the extent of how things went on in the Fletcher household. That makes Bryce and I look like the ungrateful children instead of the real bad guys who are our parents. Thank David for the ride and went inside the shop. Ethan was in the main room so he was the one I said hello first.

“When are you doing out with us, Ethan?” I nudged him playfully. I haven't had too much of a chance to get to know him better, although you can tell he was a sweetheart.

“I have a girlfriend, she isn't really about all that.” He said.

“Oh, I totally understand.”

I got it now, he is a good boyfriend and that doesn't surprise me. When Zaveri walked out of the back room, he smiled at me and it reminded me of Callan's threats. He told me I can't go out with him again, he said he would knock his teeth right out of his mouth. Is it my fault that I am attracted to him? I would never let Zaveri know about what he said.

“We need you to make some orders.” He said, putting his hand on my shoulder and giving it a light squeeze.

I would admit, I know he flirts with me a little bit, it has sort of been our dynamic from the start. I wouldn't pursue anything with him, it was just fun. Since they needed me to be making orders, I went into the back and started working on that.

I don't know how long I was in there but when I come out to the front, I didn't pay attention to the few people who were in the waiting room until I heard someone spoke

“Excuse me?” I glanced up and I swear it felt like the floor was falling right out from under me.

My hands automatically grabbed a hold of the counter to steady myself. Standing in front of me was Ezekiel, I can't even fathom how he knew where to find me. Nothing could have ever prepared me for this, he looks the same. Styled bronze hair, combed neatly into a smooth wave, worn denim colored eyes and his decent build. Although compared to some of the guys I have met now, Callan included, he isn't as buff as I used to think he was.

I was a hormonal teenager and some hot older guy liked me. I thought I hit the jackpot with him. He is handsome but crazy.
