Chapter 229: I Want To Make Things Right

We were in the back room at the Emerald lounge where I always have illegal card games running. You would be surprised but the chief of police in the city loves to gamble and because the man is in my pocket, let him. It is the little things that keep these types of men happy and eager to please me. I was leaning against the back bar with a whisky in my hand while I watched. 

He wasn't doing so badly today so his spirits were high. He wasn't alone either, another high ranking official joined him and if they were caught in a place like this they would be done for but that is the point of my establishment. It all looks legal on the surface. I chuckled when one of the old men who likes hanging around here shít talking to the younger guys, started going in on them. I was with my cousins and I could feel them looking at me. It made me shift my eyes beside me to where they were hanging off the bar stools.

“What?” I hated having to ask people that.

“Nothing, you were just smiling.” Angelo looked perplexed.

“Oh, fuck off. No, I wasn't.” I rolled my eyes at him.

“Callan, do you have something to tell me?” Gelo put his hands on his lips like he was an old mother scolding her boys.

“Meaning?” I arched a brow at him. My other cousin, Jace, was just looking between us.

“You have been in too good a mood, last I saw you, you were moping around after the blow out and then…wait.” I saw the wheels slowly turning in his dumb head.

“Brianna.” He practically gasped, I straightened my jacket and grabbed my glass to take a sip of my drink.

“What about her?” I played stupid.

“You two are messing around again, aren't you? Why didn't you tell me?” He butted past Jace to get closer to me. He lowered his voice, but it is not like anyone here really knows who Brianna is. If Bryce was here, that would be a different story.

“There is nothing to tell.” I shrugged.

When he just kept looking at me, I sighed..

“Yes, we have been messing around.” I replied to his inquiry. I won't tell him more than that.

“Are you guys like dating?” 

Of course, he wasn't satisfied with just half an answer. The nosey bastard.

“Dating, what even is dating?” I scoffed.

Brianna hasn't pressed me on it and I am grateful because words like that just make me uncomfortable. Angelo hit my shoulder with the back of his hand basically telling me to cut the shít.

“We aren't fucking other people.” I felt ridiculous saying this, so I looked away from him and watched the chief of police slap his buddy on the back for taking his winnings. 

The same smoky lingering scent from the cigar back her, no matter how much ventilation, the lingering scent of cigar will always be present. Same thick brown leathered seating and center poker table. I haven't changed the design of this since my pops and I started it.

“Wow, hold up. You aren't fucking other girls? You told her that?” Now the asshole sounded amused.

“Fuck off, Angelo. It is none of your damn business.

Jace was smart enough to pretend he wasn't listening.

“No, alright. I won't be a smart ass, I really want to know. I am the only person you can even talk about this with.” He pressed on.

It is true, I can't talk to Bryce about this until I know for sure what is going on here. He is going to be pissed but it hasn't stopped me before. Angelo is the only other person who knows about things between her and I from start to finish. I took another swig of my drink.

“She asked me not to and….yes, I agreed to it. Happy?”  A shit eating grin split across his face.

“This is good, very good. You have been fucking miserable for almost year, Callan. Whether you want to admit that or not, you have been in a destructive spiral since coming back from London.” He called me out, I am not in a better mood because of her. He is exaggerating.

“Nothing has changed.” I rolled my eyes at him. He grabbed a toothpick from the bar top and slid it into his mouth. With a smirk, he shook his head.

“Everything has changed, Brianna is yours again.”

Fuck me for doing it, but when I heard his words, my lips quirked up. I smiled and he caught me. Gelo was too damn giddy about it too, he slapped my back harder than he should have and I would have knocked him across the jaw if I wasn't in the damn good mood of mine.

“I am excited about this, I think this is going to be a good thing.” He nodded and said mostly to himself.

Why is he excited? I don't know, I am interested in seeing how excited Bryce is about this. I think it is going to end with his excited fit hitting my face.

I wanted to do something right with Brianna this time around, I wanted to take her out but I am not really used to this part of things. I was overthinking it, I have taken her out before. I am sure as hell didn't label it a date, but I took her to the exhibit, for food and drinks and I took her to the State building and shut the place down for our own privacy up there. I was showing her the city, how exactly does one top that even if it was almost a year ago. The start of all this. I remembered her wanting to touch me and fuck me, did I want to touch her. We hadn't fully gone there yet, I wanted to get her off though, I wanted her to want me and not seek gratification somewhere else. 'Where to take a fashionista in PH?’ I typed into the search engine and I was glad when plenty of links came up. I clicked the first one I saw. 

Many of them were museum type ideas that I have already done once. It is boring, I need a fresh idea. I kept scrolling and stopped over one of them.

Sandiez Collection, I have lived in this city all my life and never once have I stepped foot in that area. It says here that they have a designer showroom, fabric shops and something called the Fashion Walk of Fame. Fashion is the only thing I know about Brianna that gets her giddy. It is my go-to idea. What else does she even really care about? I read about the Fashion Walk of Fame thing and it sounded alright. It has plenty of the designer's name that I am not familiar with but I know she will be though. Okay, this is a start. They have sculpted down three of some giant buttons and thread that is popular with IG picture spots. She has her fashion page and the girl loves taking pictures, so that is another added place I can take her.

What else? That is too short an outing. Think, Callan, it is not like a date-date. It is like…well, it is just…I don't know what the fuck it is. I just want to do it.
