Chapter 39: I Can't Control Myself

Brianna

“I made her leave.” Callan said and my head snapped over to him.

“Why?” I asked quietly.

“To come find you, you were visibly distraught and clearly wouldn't break into my house for no reason and I was right to follow my gut. Who knows what he would have done to you in that alley, Brianna.” He sounded disapproving now and I couldn't stand the tone. He walked us into his apartment but I stopped short.

“Why do you have a gun, Callan?” My eyes searched his entire body to see where it was.

I realized he had it holstered under his left arm, inside his jacket that concealed it so well.

“For protection.” He mumbled and I crossed my arms.

“Protection from what?” He cracked his neck to calm his anger.

“I am an important man, Brianna and I make a lot of money, people know that. I am a target.” He said, I guess that makes sense but it still frightens me that he carries a weapon. He looked all too confident pushing the barrel of the gun into Ezekiel's skull.

“Now answer my question, who is he?” I knew I had no way around this so I fessed up.

“My ex.” I looked down at my feet.

Ezekiel was lucky he didn't scuff my new boots or maybe it would have been me to kill him. How silly must I look in a white felt beret and pink tweed mini skirt while a man practically assaults me in the alleyway. No wonder Callan looked down on me disapprovingly. I hate that feeling.

“Your ex?” He said, though it sounded deadly when he said it.

“What did he want from you?” He asked, I didn't want to answer that.

“Can we just drop this? It is private.” I looked away from him. He bounded over and towered me.

“Seeing as I was two seconds away from killing that man, I think I deserve to know why he had his fucking hands on you that way.” He snapped and I flinched back which made him clench his jaw and release a harsh breath through his nose. He lifted my wrists and examined them.

“I should have shot him.” He said and my jaw dropped.

“No, are you crazy?” I couldn't tell if he was joking or not.

“He should have gotten a better beating.” He shook his head, he was damn serious.

“But you smashed his face open.” I said.

“And it wasn't nearly enough. He left marks.” He lifted my wrists for me to see, I pulled them out of his hold and hide them behind my back.

“Thank you for helping me out of the situation but this dies here. You can't tell my brother about it and you can't keep asking me questions.” I said, ready to leave his house.

I was so shaken up but I don't think Ezekiel is dumb enough to enter this building tonight. He was held at gunpoint and I saw how much that freaked him out.

“What don't you want your brother to know? What are you hiding, Brianna? Which boyfriend and from where?” He started asking in succession.

“I said, can we drop this!” I yelled without meaning to.

He was pressuring me and I was too I'm edge for this, I was ready to snap

“Fine, don't tell me but you have to let me know if I should worry about this guy?” His hand came to my waist and he held me in front of him. His hands on me set me on fire no matter how frightened I was.

“No, you scared him off. It is done.” I shook my head and he released a heavy sign.

“If he ever messes with you again, I want you to call me.” He said and I just nodded so he would end it.

“Can I have a glass of water?” I asked, my mouth had felt so dry since the second Ezekiel reappeared in my life.

He nodded and guided me to the kitchen and he surprised me when he grabbed my waist and lifted me to sit on the counter. I pulled my skirt down a bit because my thighs were fully out. He glanced at them but turned away to grab the glass. He handed me the glass of water and stayed in front of me with his hands on either side of the counter where I sat. Our faces lined up this way and he noticed my trembling hand, his expression hardened again.

“Just say the word and he will be handled.” He muttered and my eyes went wide.

“No, just drop it.” I shook my head, I don't even want to know what handled means in his situation.

I placed the glass down which left nothing between us. I was sitting at his counter with his two hands on either side of me and it made his body naturally lean slightly forward. The side of his fingers could be felt against flesh, he took his lips into his mouth as he looked at me from head to toe and the boots he had given me. His hand came to my leg and lightly glided down to lift the boot up enough for him to see. He removed it slowly so that his flesh touched mine longer than it needed too. My core heated and my legs broke out in goosebumps from his contact.

“I am sorry, I interrupted your date.” I whispered, his eyes looked down at my lips and then back at me.

“It doesn't matter, it was nothing.” He muttered.

I wanted to know who it was, though. It didn't have a good feeling in my gut when I saw him touching her.

“It didn't look like it was nothing.”

He studied my face, but didn't respond to me. When I looked away from him, his warm rough hands came down on both my thighs, rubbing up until the hem of my skirt where he stopped himself and I couldn't breathe. I looked down at his tattooed hand flat on my flawless skin in contrast, he slid then up my thighs but stopped after that. His grip lightly tightened and then I remember how his hands has been on that woman's leg. He had it half way up her dress and I quickly pulled his hands away which made him furrow his eyebrows at me.

“You were just touching someone else that way, don't just hop onto me next.” I looked away from him again, because I couldn't move from this countertop.

It is the only thing I could do to distance myself, turning my head, leaving my neck open to him and I stiffened when I felt him lean forward and lightly brush his nose up the length of my throat.

“I need to stay away, Brianna.” He said in a low gruff voice.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because I don't have the discipline to do it myself.” He said against my neck.

Although he hadn't touched me yet, even just the brushing of his nose, the feathering of his mouth this close to my throat had me dizzy with total and utter want for him. A desire so strong that it could sweep me away completely.

“And if I don't?
