Chapter 34: He Is Not Good Enough

Brianna

“Why are you following me?” I asked Callan, I couldn't look him in the face for more than two seconds without being humiliated for what happened last weekend.

“We are shopping and then I will ride back home.” He muttered.

I decided to call him on his own bluff. I will go to the shop to see if he will actually come along with me or not. He will see I am serious and become disinterested enough to leave. I ignored him and walked down to the designer shop I love walking into, it was a crack to me, of course I had no money for anything at all but he doesn't need to know that. He just has to believe that I am going to be taking forever shopping around.

The first store I walked into was a shoe shop, I started browsing, walking as slow as possible and picking each one up. The woman who had been behind the counter came walking towards us, Callan looked like a bodyguard at my back with a full suit and his hands in his pocket.

“Hello, can I help you with anything?” The woman sounded cheerful and eager to sell.

“I am just browsing for now, thank you.” I smiled at her. He nodded and stepped back.

“If you need anything, let me know.” She said and headed back to the counter.

I lifted a boot and eyed it over at a leisurely pace and I felt Callan's body stepped forward, the heat of him warmed my back and rushed a flush to my cheeks.

“Find anything you like?” His voice was a low rumble in my ear.

“Not yet.” I tried to side step him.

I really wanted to turn around and confront him, ask him why he was even here but I didn't want to cause a scene.

“Ma'am if you like those boots, let me tell you, they are new arrivals.” The woman returned with a shoe that made my eyes light up. They were ankle boots, all black with a metal gold heel.

“Oh my goodness.” I gushed, walking towards them. I could already picture what outfit I would wear them with.

“Aren't they beautiful?” She smiled, I noticed she had some heels on from the same designer.

“Try them on then.” Callan suggested, I looked between him and the woman, knowing he was trying to call my bluff again.

“Okay, size six if you have it.” I fidgeted, I know I can't afford it. I am going to have to drop the act at some point.

“Tiny foot?” She smiled but told me to hold on while she went to check.

They had upholstery sofas here for you to sit and try things on. I sat down in anticipation of trying these shoes on and when she brought the box over, I pulled out the cute boots and slipped them both on. There was a full length mirror towards the front of the store so I walked over to it. Callan stayed beside the woman at the counter, they chatted while I checked myself out. It was so cute, I love fashion and it was an expensive passion. I can't even imagine what my father would think of me if he saw me dressed in all designer clothes. Maybe I would finally be up to par with his standard. I walked back to the sofa, Callan came beside me.

“How much?” He asked, I know what he was doing. He was trying to embarrass me when I had to confess that I don't actually have any money. He is just a bastard.

“Five thousand,” the woman said, I could have choked. I placed them back neatly into the box to stall for time.

“They are gorgeous.” I said.

“Should I bring them up to the counter for you?” She asked and I felt Callan watching me.

“Umm, I still have some other shopping to do. I might not have purchased these right now.” I stupidly said.

That was what the poor people do when they window shop. To pretend they will come back for an item later only to never return.

“Are you sure? You really seemed to like them.” Callan pressed on. I blushed and huffed that I was sure, promptly leaving the store so I could stop humiliating myself.

When I heard him following behind me, I got a ways away from the store before whirling around.

“Why were you trying to embarrass me in there?” I hissed at him, he furrowed his brows at my attitude towards him, rounding his shoulders so he was even taller now. Looking at me this way, I felt small.

“How embarrassing it to you if you were the one that said you wanted to shop?” He taunted me.

“Fine, I don't have money with me. I am going shopping.” I dropped the act but he didn't look surprised.

“Avoiding me then?” He asked.

“Why did you come and interrupt my lunch with Zaveri? And don't say it was just to eat because you didn't touch your food.” I said bravely. I needed to know why, he licked his lips but didn't say anything.

“Well?” I got frustrated with him.

He looked around us before grabbing my arm and pulling me to him. I bumped straight into his firm body and looked up quickly at him. I was surprised by our close proximity all of a sudden. He made sure to bend his head enough to speak privately into my ear.

“Because I can.” He said and before I could complain, a man passed by us noticing it was him standing there and he quickly removed his cap to bow his head to him.

“Hello, Mr Harold.” He greeted him politely.

That was odd, he had called Terra Kulture his neighborhood but I called that as bullshit. Maybe he was well known around this part of town though. I didn't like how close we remained so I wiggled to remove myself from his hold but he didn't let me.

“That wasn't an answer.” I muttered as the man walked away.

He had me by the arm and I was almost chest to chest with him which means my head was tipped all the way to to see his face. He was dipped down, his eyes dropped to my lips and it made me swallow hard.

“He is not good enough.” He said and my jaw dropped.

“And who the hell are you to even determine something like that?” He infuriated me when he said that.

“I did it for Bryce's sake.” I laughed humorously.

“Bryce loves Zaveri so I don't think he has a problem with me dining with the man.”

He grabbed my jaw and I gasped, leaning down to my face. He had my heart pounding in my chest and set my hands into a trembling of nerves and desires. Our faces were only inches apart while he held my jaw and whispered.

“You are not going out with him again.” His words came out as an order.

“That is not your call.” I snapped, his jaw tensed and he took a second just to look at me.

“It is now.” He released my jaw and stepped away, sucking in a long breath and releasing it like he was trying to calm himself down or something.
