Chapter 194: A Crush?

Brianna

“Everyone calls me Roy, but dammit, I love it when you say it.” He shook his head and sighed like it was some burden to him.

“Are you bargaining with me, Roy Vortex?” I repeated myself to humor him. He took his bottom lip into his mouth in the hottest way before his hands started to graze up my body.

“Yes, I am because I want you to stay.” He let me know but his voice was already full of lust.

“I will stay,” I nodded, his hand cupped my jaw and he kissed my lips. Our mouths moved in unison and I almost got lost into the movement again but snapped out of it and pulled away. He was smirking, knowing he was getting to me.

“Let me uphold my reputation,” he whispered over my lips. I knew I just entered a whole new kind of trouble now.

I must have fallen into a pretty deep sleep, because when I woke up agat, I felt that Roy's body was missing from the bed. I almost questioned if he left me here until I could hear pans outside the closed doors. He is actually cooking me breakfast, I know I held up my end of the bargain last night. I stood up and was about to open the door when I realized his deep voice was speaking to someone, obviously over the phone. I didn't know why I paused, because I didn't intend to snoop but when I did pause, I heard a piece of what he was saying.

“I think I have a damn crush on this girl, no wonder Bryce kept her hidden from us all these years.”

There was a pause, and then he chuckled at whatever the other person on the line said. A crush? I don't buy it. He is probably jyokin around and just bragging that he fucked Bryce's little sister.  That soured my gut to think he will. When I finally turned the handle and opened the room, there was a straight view of the rest of the apartment. His eyes came up and traced the outline of my bare legs, his shirt and my morning hair while I leaned into the doorway. He had his shoulder tight to keep the phone balanced on his ear while he cut something but he straightened out and muttered.

“Uh, I got to go.” He hung up the call.

“Good morning, beautiful.” He grinned at me, shirtless and cooking.

“You are actually making me breakfast?” I pointed out the obvious.

“I am a man of my words, Miss Fletcher.” He turned his back to me to move the pan to cool down on the back burner. His back muscles would move along with him which looked hot.

When I walked closer to him, I could smell that he was actually making something really good.

“You do french toast?” I was very surprised.

“I have been living on my own for many years, Brianna. I know how to cook.” He chuckled.

“How long?” I wondered, he is my brother's age so I was just curious.

“My father went to prison even though I was just fifteen and my mother is..uh, yes, I moved out at seventeen. So I guess so many years ago.” He told me.

“Is he in prison because of…mafia stuff?” I stupidly asked and he laughed.

“That is right, you are new to this. Jane told me you didn't know what Bryce was up to over here. Yes, sweetheart, he is in prison for mafia stuff.” He smirked in amusement

I grabbed the plates I saw him pull out and placed them on the very small table he had between the kitchen and living room. When we sat to eat, he handed me some french toast and tipped his head to study men for a second.

“How do you react when you find out?” He asked.

“I kind of flipped out,” I deadpanned and he chuckled and shrugged.

“Understandable, for someone who hasn't grown up in the lifestyle, I could see that really freaking someone out. You are obviously okay with it now though, right?” He looked down to start eating his own food, so it gave me a second to study him. He can be so normal in a way Callan never was. Oh my goodness, why do I compare? Callan is a psycho, that is why. I shouldn't think of him.

“If you want my honest answer, no, not really. I am very uncomfortable with the idea of him being a criminal. I know that might offend you but I am just worried for him. He is kind of my only family and I want him safe and out of prison.” I peeked up at him.

“Again, understandable.” He shrugged, if he was offended he wasn't shoving it.

“So you must hate me, you know I am part of it, right?” He asked.

“Yes, I know and I think everyone in my new life is. So I guess I just pretend it doesn't exist.” I pressed my lips together.

“Is there a specific thing that bothers you?” He asked me again. I paused and thought about it.

“Murder, I couldn't handle Bryce being a killer. I just couldn't.” I shook my head and I saw a quick flicker of something pass over his expression but just as quickly as it disappeared.

“We don't do that, darling. Maybe knock a couple of people around but Bryce doesn't kill people. Don't worry.” He assured me.

“What about you?” I asked, I noticed he didn't include himself in that statement.

“What? Kill people?” He wanted clarification and I nodded yes.

“No, I don't either.” He chuckled. I studied him for a second which made him drop his eyes on his plate and take a bite of his food.

“Is this okay?” He hit his chin at the toast he made.

“Yes, it is excellent actually.” I got distracted and realized that is probably what he wanted in the first place.

I have a rare opportunity to ask a few questions that Bryce wouldn't answer but he might.

“Roy?” I called, getting his full attention. His pretty eyes shot up to meet mine.

“Yes, beautiful.”

“I know there is a war brewing, are you and my brother safe?” I asked, he puffed out his cheeks.

“Who went and told you that?” He seemed to know that Bryce doesn't tell me things even now that I know he is in the mafia in the first place.

“Please, don't be one of those people that lie to me.” I said to him.

He ran his hand through his hair, I saw his bruised knuckles and those hands that touched every inch of me last night.

“Dammit it, don't look all cute and ask me to rat on your brother.” He huffed. I actually found that funny but I didn't want to break my sad cute face.

“Ugh, fuck. I won't lie to you.” He nodded.

“Then? How much danger are we all in? Because Bryce said he wants men following me around, so I know I am in danger too.” I hope he fell for it. My brother said I was not in danger but I don't believe him.

“He wouldn't let a single one of them touch you, you aren't in danger. Fuck, I won't let a single one of them touch you either. As for us, it is a common risk in the business of dealing with bad men. The Black Knight is a bunch of pussies if that makes you feel better.” He got kind of fierce when he said he wouldn't let them touch me and it made my gut flip.

“Are you saying I have two protectors now?” I decided to linger on that and he smirked.

“I don't think I can name a single guy who has ever gotten past me when I don't want him to.” He said confidently.

“I guess it is you guys I worry about then." I shrugged and looked down at my food. When he stayed quiet, I glanced up at him and paused at whatever that expression is right now.

“You don't have to worry about anything, nothing is going to happen to any of us.” He assured me.

But can he assure me of something like that?
