Off Limits, Brother's Best Friend Chapter 169
Chapter 169: Did They Kill Him?
Brianna
Zevrie explained about my in-person visit and I guess you probably shouldn't spring that on someone over the phone, so I understood his reasoning.
“Yes, I will definitely call, thank you for this.” I held the card up.
“Again, I am sorry I forgot about that girl, it had been a busy day at the shop and it honestly slipped my mind.” He gave me an apologetic smile about Mary. I waved him off letting him know it was fine, after that, I said another quick hello to the crew but told them I was in a rush to go.
I was in a rush, I wanted to call my brother to see what he would say about all this. About Ezekiel missing? Last time I saw him was when I left him in the hands of my brother and his best friend. If Mary came to me a few months ago, that must have been around the time that people started looking for him. He was know to take off sometimes, so I am sure everyone just assumed he was doing his typical assumed never come back, never returned calls and word got out. They started looking and they were still looking, only now it was with the police involved.
I had the heaviest feeling in my gut about all this. What did they do to Ezekiel? They promised that they would give him a beating and send him on his way. I need to talk to Bryce before I call this detective back. The phone rang and rang but my brother would not pick up his damn phone. Zevrie said this guy is waiting on my call, I don't want to agitate him by talking too long to call back. Of fuck, what if they think I did something to him? We had text messages between us and they weren't friendly ones. Total panic set in, I called Bryce a dozen more times before I panicked even more and decided I needed to call someone else. It can't be Callan, it just can't be him, so who? David won't know shit about what happened to Ezekiel, because he came home with me that day and he is a lower level rank than them, so they don't tell him things.
Angelo is Callan's right hand and cousin, which means they have definitely told him about this or at the very least he will have knowledge on where my brother is. I didn't have his phone number, though. O called David first.
“Yes, Miss. Fletcher?” David answered right away, I had told him to call me Brianna but I lose that often. I gave up.
“Where is Bryce?” I asked, there was a pause before he responded.
“I have no idea, Miss. Fletcher. I am not with them today.” He explained.
“Okay, do you have Angelo's phone number?” I asked next, again he hesitated.
“Hmm…yes.” He is probably wondering why the hell I would want that. It is not like I can call Callan.
Callan has made it pretty clear how he feels about me and that I better stay away which I am trying to do. Nobody's ever hurt me more witn words than him and what he screamed at me the other day. And my father is fantastic at using words to hurt others, this was different though, something new cracked inside me that I didn't know existed. Sometimes my father and Ezekiel never got to touch or break, only Callan did that. When David gave me the number, I thanked him but quickly hung up. With the knowledge that this police, no this detective is waiting on my call just make this all feel like a timer to a ticking bomb. I pressed the call button and waited, I almost thought he wouldn't answer because it rang a few times but then I heard the ringing end and the quiet of the other line before a voice filled it.
“Who is this?” He asked before anything else.
“Umm, Angelo? It is Brianna…Bryce's sister.” I stupidly said like he hasn't met me a hundred times and had plenty of conversations with me.
“Oh, hi, darling, is everything alright?” He asked, knowing I wouldn't be calling for a chat.
“I am not sure, I can't reach Bryce and I really need him.” I told him but I was trying to withhold the fear in my voice.
The panic of wondering if the police are currently thinking if I murdered my ex-boyfriend was something. Why else would it lead here? He lives in Ibadan not Port Harcourt. So why else would they come looking for me?
“Umm, he won't be available for a bit, but are you alright? Can I do anything for you?” He asked me kindly. I paused, can he help? He is a mafia, and I am sure he knows how to handle police and what not to say to one.
“M.. maybe…umm.” I paused, unsure what to even say.
If he doesn't know about what happened between me, Callan, Bryce and Ezekiel, I don't know that I would want to share that information. If they never told him, why should I?

Callan POV
It was still morning, so the restaurant wasn't open yet. For that reason, I was with some family discussing this war we seemed to have gotten ourselves into. It was nearing opening time for the restaurant thiuh, so slowly we were beginning the diaperse now that I have said all I need to. We have a reserved table here in the corner booth that has never been seated with anyone other than the mafia crew. Us closest to the family, it is a round booth, so Angelo was close to me but he started to move down now that some of my crime family was leaving.
At the same time, his phone started ringing, I saw his dark brows furrow. He switched the toothpick he has always got in the corner of his mouth from right to the left as he answered the call.
“Who is this?” He replied right away, this had my ears perking up. If he is getting calls from random numbers, it could be our enemies. His body language switched from defensive down to what looked to be confusion maybe?
“Oh, hi, darling.. is everything okay?” I heard him ask. Is this one of his hook ups or something? I was about to shut the conversation when his words had me turned back in again.
“Umm, he won't be available for a bit, but are you alright? Can I help you with anything?”
I tapped his arms with the back of my hand to give him the chin tip, indicating I wanted to know who it was. He glanced at me but turned his focus back to the phone without answering me. I tapped him harder.
“Who is it?” I asked out loud now.
“Uh, can you hold on a second, sweetheart?” He asked the person on the line, clearly female before turning to me.
“It is Brianna,” he whispered, covering the speaker. I gritted my teeth, why the fúck is she calling him? Heat licked up my inside.
“She is looking for Bryce, she sounds scared.” He continued, my eyes snapped back over to him.
“Ask why,” I continued to grit my teeth. Stay out of it, Callan. I muttered to myself.
“Brianna, you were about to tell me what is wrong, you call tell me now.” He assured her.
While he listened, his expression flickered to one I wasn't entirely sure about. First, intrigued and then deeply paying attention. I watched his eyes move to take in this information he was clearly receiving. Then something hesitant or worried came over his expression. I hit him again to tell me why the fuck she was calling.
“Okay, darling, give me a minute. Don't call him yet, don't say anything without a lawyer.” He told her, what the fuck is going on?
He looked over his shoulder to see who was lingering before he started speaking to me in a low and serious voice which doesn't happen all that often.
“Brianna said some detective went poking around the tattoo shop, looking for her. He gave them his card and said she should call him as soon as possible.” He said, my brows furrowed deeper than they already were. What the fuck does a detective want from her?
“They are about her ex-boyfriend, he is missing.” He said to me, knowing why he is missing. I swiped my hand down my face and huffed and I waved to him to handle the phone over to me.
“Brianna?” I called.
I know the last time I spoke to her, I screamed in her face some pretty harsh words. No, not just harsh, I told her I hate her and I regret her. I told her to say the fuck away from me which is why she was calling Angelo right now and not me. I know she can't reach her brother now because I have got him working. The line stayed silent for a moment.
