Chapter 28: I Don't Do Well To Threats

“I won't lie, I am not fully comfortable with having one of our own mixed with your crowd.” I said and it seemed to anger him.

“And why is that?” He asked and his father put a hand up to stop his son and leaned forward on the table to center in on me alone.

“Maybe we come to an agreement on which territories remain to whom. I know we have a few blind spots here and there where our lines seem to blend over others territories.”

He made a good point, I have been wanting to fix that for a while now. It brings on unnecessary conflict and mini feuds have broken out on more than one occasion in parts usually outside this city but it has happened here before too.

“Agree, I am sure our number two's can hash out the details. I want to meet you for the mere fact that you won't have any claims within our cartel and if I find out you try using Miss. Vortex to withdraw information from her, you are going to have a major problem with me. Is that understood?” I looked between all the men. His son spoke again with an attitude that was not appreciated here.

“I don't take well to threats, Mr. Harold.”

I have been leaning in a lax position but with that tone of voice, he had me sitting up.

“You watch your attitude.” I warned, his father muttered something but he didn't listen. He is cocky, I can tell.

“We do just fine on our own, I have heard about you. Your father handed you over the city and now you think you are in a position to involve yourself in my personal business. My engagement is not mafia business.” He snapped.

I slammed my hands on the table and stood up. In response, he stood up as well. His men stepped forward and so did mine.

“I said, watch your fucking tone with me!” I snarled.

When his father slapped his gun down on the table, insinuating an obvious threat it was like the military man in me snapped. I lunged over that table subduing him and the weapon involved, chairs knocked over and bodies were being pushed. A lot of voices broke out at once. I know punches were being thrown now amongst my men and he and I landed a fist bruising punch to his son's face. He swung at me a few times but he kept hitting my shoulder or into my ribs and I went for his face again. Grabbing my shirt, I felt buttons popping off, we rolled across the ground. I used the leg of a bar stool to sweep the thing down, ready to hit him before guns were drawn but I had him down and I told everyone to put away their weapons or I wouldn't be letting the bastard up. He was fuming beneath me, having me hold his own gun against his ugly fucking face.

“Callan, enough of this!” The old man raised his voice for the first time and I stood and brought his son up with me, although I didn't fully let go yet.

“You think you can come into my state, into my neighborhood and get away with disrespecting me? I will fucking blow the head off anyone of your men who even think to drawn a weapon again. Do you understand me?” I shoved his son over to him.

“I think we have said all we needed to.” He grabbed his son by the arm and started walking out and I followed them to the sidewalk.

“Don't show your face here ever again.” I hollered out to them.

They are lucky I didn't shoot, we all looked disheveled from the fight that both started and ended so quickly but my mind was sharp.

“And you are to stay away from the Vortex girl.” I warned, his son stopped and then charged at me again. To defend him, his force came forward also.

My men would have defended me but I am enough. That is twice these men had threatened a high ranking mafia, the highest member and a fucking Don and that is cause for death. I withdrew my gun as quickly as I have been trained to and let a shot ring off, dropping his enforcers to the ground. The old man was covered by his guards and his son pulled behind a car for shelter. A shot rang out on their part but no one was hit. Either it was a warning shot or they sucks at aiming.

“If I see your face again, I will fucking kill you!” I yelled and they left their enforcers on the sidewalk bleeding out.

He was groaning but he managed to secretly withdraw his gun and in that split second, I saw the barrel pointed at me. Bang, the man dropped back to the ground when a bullet was put between his eyes. I had gotten to him first. My men removed me from the situation to shield me from anymore oncoming threats and the Spanish were forced out of my fucking premises. Citizens who heard the gunfire called the police which meant it was time for us to leave, the slain man is a high ranking enforcer. He is known to the law for having been arrested on many organized crimes related charges before. They will label it a drug war and they will call him a victim of it, they won't pursue this, not here.

I pay off the right kind of men to keep that bullshit away from me, the media will try and get a piece of this though so I cleared my men out. I want no part in publicity, it was very rare you hear of mafia business and that is because we made it that way. If we are able, I will pay to bury the story, I guess we will see in time. All I know is what happened here today is going to be cause for more issues in the future with the Spanish.

My actions were justified, I was threatened first and someone lost their life because of it. I would have shot his son if he wasn't up for the boss position within his organization, that is going too far and that would create an all out war if this action hadn't already done that for us.

Fuck them, I let them bleed out on the sidewalk of a seemingly random street and fixed my jacket to head home.
