Chapter 33: I Will Drive Her Home

Brianna

“No, we met through some mutual people and when he heard I had a shop, he decided to check it out and then we became actual friends. So I guess, we sort of met through tattooing and he has been coming to me for a couple years now. Has he shown you any of my fine work?” He teased me.

“No, I have never asked.”

It wasn't like I see my brother walking around shirtless all the time. The man is always in a damn suit nowadays. When the front doors of the cafe opened, there was a bell sound that would go off. They had a counter but you could also sit down and someone would take your order. As the door opened, my natural response was to glance over and I froze in place when I saw who just walked in. No, this can be? It can be a damn coincidence that Callan freaking Harold just walked into this place out of all the places he could have ended up at. Our eyes met and I immediately shifted mine down, Zaveri was talking and hadn't noticed. I tried smiling at him and ignoring the strong pulsing presence of the man entering but it was impossible.

“Oh shit, what's up man?” Zaveri said as he realized who just walked in and stood up to give him a pat on the back. Callan looked between myself and Zaveri a few times without even greeting the both of us.

“On break?” That was his only response to Zaveri.

Zaveri sat down when he felt the cold demeanor of Callan and cleared his throat to speak up again. I remained silent and didn't look at him, I continued to look at Zaveri.

“No, Brianna is actually off work today.” He replied and Callan was silent again and I wanted to die.

“I see,” his voice was deep but disinfectant.

“Are you here for lunch? You are welcome to come sit with us.” He offered, I wanted to strangle him for being polite but I figured Callan wouldn't say yes anyways.

He doesn't seem like much of a people person if his disinfectant attitude and cold greetings says anything about him.

“Sure,” he said instead, making me snap my head up at him in surprise.

Is he doing this on purpose? Zaveri almost seemed surprised too, he grabbed him a chair and waved for him to join us. What is happening right now?

“Brianna,” he acknowledged me with a nod and I said a quiet hello but focused on everything but him.

My cheeks blushed even at just his mere vicinity being close to mine. The last time we spoke, he was telling me to touch myself and then he told me to never text him like that again. I am embarrassed and I don't want him here, he had to know that.

“Do you come here a lot, I am surprised to see you.” Zaveri said exactly what I was thinking.

“I was just seeing what was going on in my neighborhood and decided to grab a sandwich.” He said and he was sure to exaggerate the word neighborhood in that sentence like he had a claim to this place or something.

Just because his family has a restaurant here doesn't mean he runs the street. Did he come here because he heard we were here? No, why would he? When I felt his eyes shift to me, I couldn't stand it. I stood up and told them I was going to use the restroom. Why is he here? Gosh, he overwhelms me so much especially after those private encounters we shared. I am hoping by the time I get back, his sandwich is ready and he leaves. Although I hadn't seen him order anything. Both of their eyes were on me as I walked towards the restroom.

I watched them both look at me from ponytail all the way down my feet and back up again as I walked back to our table. I noticed the waitress had taken away our empty plates which means we don't technically have a reason to stay here anymore. I was having a conversation and laughing with Zaveri but with Callan's interruptions, I think it is time to go.

“Well then,” I said as I walked up to the table, sort of insinuating I was ready to go.

Zaveri stood up and so did Callan and at that same time, a woman behind the counter called Callan's name and handed him a white paper bag with his food in it and we ended up walking out together.

Since Zaveri had a client in a little bit, he hadn't brought his car along which I knew meant I was going to order a ride back home.

“Oh thank you but you don't have to do that.” I waved it off when he decided to order the ride for me.

I jumped when Callan's deep voice interrupted from behind me and I didn't know he was standing so close. It made me straighten my spine.

“I will drive her back home.” He said to Zaveri, I whirled around and shook my head no.

“I can take a ride.” I turned it down.

“I will drive her back home.” He said to Zaveri again, ignoring me. Zaveri chuckled and came to my side to give me a goodbye hug.

“I will see you on wednesday.” He rubbed my arm before walking off and that left a tense atmosphere between me and the man I was actively avoiding.

When all he did was look down at me, I rambled out the first thing I could think of.

“I am not going home, I am going shopping.” I said, I figured he wouldn't want to stick around for that.

“Shopping?” He arched his brow at me, challenging me.

“Yes,” I stuck with it.

“Lovely, I will come with you.” He stumped me, I opened and closed my mouth. How do I get out of this now?

“Are you sure? It is going to be long and boring.” I fidgeted with my hands and looked at everything but him.

“You must have a lot of money then if you would be shopping for so long.” He called out my bullshit.

“I have enough.” I lied.

“Why were you with him?” He changed the subject so quickly and it gave me a pause.

“Zaveri?” I mumbled and he gave me a curt nod as he always does. His face was pressed into a hard line.

“He asked me to lunch.” I shrugged, not understanding why I had even asked that.

“And do you make a habit of dining with your boss?” I felt like he was calling me out for something and I didn't like it, I scowled.

“It is not like that at Bizzyaski Ink z we were all chill with each other. Why am I even explaining myself to you, I have to go.” I huffed, ready to stomp away.

“Shopping?” He said.

“Yes, shopping!” I yelled, he was flustering me.

I started walking and so did he. What game is he playing here? I stopped after crossing the road and he did the same, putting his hands into his pocket like he was waiting for something.
