Chapter 168: He Is Missing

When I woke up, I felt a slight ache in the center of my head from the alcohol I drank last night. I shifted a little and felt my body bumping against someone's else's. My heart stopped, how did my night end? I was too afraid to open my eyes,  when the person started shifting, my heart began to beat faster. Did I hook up with Roy Vortex? Because I didn't mean to, I just wanted to flirt and have fun. I didn't want to jump into that.

My eyes finally opened, I needed to face this, I wasn't met by his eyes though, I was connected with Jane's.

“Why the hell am I not waking up in a hot guy's bed?” She pouted when she realized it was me she was sleeping against. Thank goodness.

“I don't remember, the end is kind of crazy fuzzy.” I chuckled.

After grabbing water and tylenol, both of us began to piece together the rest of our night. I remembered the guy Jane war with offered to buy us all shots and I know we started doing those shots and we danced a little more.

“Oh my goodness, I remembered what Roy did.” She covered her koith and giggled.

“What?” My eyes widened in anticipation. But before she even opened her mouth to remind me, the image came flooding into my head.

“Oh my gosh, he punched that guy.” I ended up covering my mouth like she did.

We took shots, we danced some more and the guy continued to offer Jane more. Roy noticed, he told Jane he didn't want her to leave with the guy because he seemed like he was purposely trying to get her really drunk. When the guy puffed his chest out, telling Roy to mind his business, he punched him once in the face. He knocked the guy straight to the ground, it was actually extremely attractive. Roy didn't flip out or anything, he just knocked that guy out and turned back to me to put his hand around my waist like it was nothing. I remembered going up on my toes to be able to reach his ear and whispered.

‘'That was kind of sexy.’ his grip had tightened around me.

'You like troublemakers, Brianna.’ he smirked at that fact, I guess I sort of do.

“Oh my goodness, that was so fun.” Jane turned giddy at the reminder of our night's adventure.

The three of us left after some complained about punching that guy. The three girls were drunk at the end of the night.

“He wanted to take you home so badly, you know that right.” She chuckled at me as we reminisced.

“No, he was chill about hanging out as the three of us.” I disagreed.

“He couldn't keep his hand off you.” She shoved at me.

We were cross legged in the middle of her bed, holding a coffee mug. I glared at her when mine almost spilled. I do remember his hands on my waist, my hips and he would tuck my hair behind my shoulder or run his hand briefly up my backside. He is so smooth with his sublet touch, I let him get away with a lot. As for those two teasing neck kisses, he didn't even push that further. He didn't kiss me again, that only makes me more intrigued about his subtlety. At the end of the night, he hugged me and Jane, sending us in a safe car to her apartment. I guess, these guys did grow up with her, they are trouble but they respect her and her family ebo to look after her. Especially when sketchy guys are trying to liquor her up and take her home. They make sure she gets home safe, of course they do because Callan is their Boss. He would beat their heads in if they didn't. Sometimes, I envy her, she is very cared for and I just want someone to care for me.

“Oh crapper!” She exclaimed, making my eyes come back to her. She glanced at her phone screen and then me.

“I am going to be late to my nail appointment, I totally forgot about it.” She started getting up and I followed her.

“Go ahead, I will head home now.” I assured her and she tipped her head.

“Are you sure? Not trying to kick you out like a one night stand.” She teased me, I laughed and shook my head at her.

“I am okay, you weren't that good in bed anyway.” I flicked my hair over my shoulder and walked out of her room. I could still hear the scoff.

“Excuse me, I have never received a complaint. I am a fanatic in bed.” She defended herself, I just blew her a kiss and told her to hurry to her appointment, leaving the apartment myself. Walk of shame outfit without any of the sex, I called for a car.

I was kind of surprised when my phone started ringing on a weekday morning and it was Zevrie's number on the screen. Kind of random.

“Hello?” I was just stepping into the cap, so I nodded to the driver and bucked in.

“Hey, Brianna. Long time no talk, are you busy right now?” His tone seemed off.

“Umm, no?” I replied.

“I will explain when you get here but is it possible to come down to the shop right now?” He was acting weird and I couldn't fathom why. If he asks that I go there, I know it is with good reason.

I leaned over to the driver and asked him if I could change my final destination point. We weren't far off from that neighborhood, so I told Zevrie I would see him in a minute. I tried to run a few scenarios in my head about why he would call with a tone that I know in the past we left things in an awkward place after he admitted he would like to get to know me better. Then, Callan proceeded to beat his ass, I moved away after that so things stayed how they were. We have spoken, but haven't hung out since then, which is why I wanted to invite them to my brother's birthday.

Walking to the shop, I smiled at the memories.  I liked working here and I liked everyone who works here. It didn't take long for me to be noticed when I walked in, so several hellos came from around the shop and I got a few hugs but we couldn't talk. It was Zevrie that walked up and waved me to follow him. They had a client around, so I assumed that is why he had me follow him into the back room.

“So, Brianna a few months back, this girl came in here looking for you. I honestly completely forgot about it or else I would have texted you months ago but yes, her name was Mary. Do you know her?” He asked me, my stomach flipped.

“Yes, from a long time ago…why?” 

My stomach was feeling more unsettled than my original hesitation about his tone of voice. This isn't what I was expecting.

“Well, she came looking for you and asked if  a man had come in here with you. She gave a name…the reason I am bringing this up now is…” he trailed off, I wanted to shake the man. What is this? Why was she here?

“Brianna, a police officer came in here today asking for you by name, it kind of shocked and confused us. I said you don't work here anymore and he gave me a brief mention of a name he wanted to see if I was familiar with. I looked him up in our system, I saw he has never been a client here and I showed that to the police officer. But he gave me this…he wanted you to call him as soon as possible, it was the same name Mary mentioned. That was how it reminded me about a few months ago.”

My mouth went dry and I inhaled a calming breath before asking.

“What was the name?” I asked

He still looks exactly the same from last time I saw, so he ran his fingers through his long moused back strands.

“Ezekiel,” he said, the one name that can spoil my gut no matter what. I practically cringed but I tried to keep my external face smooth.

“Oh, weird,” I said.

“Do you know him?” He asked and I nodded yes.

“He was my old boyfriend when I was still living back in Ibadan. That was so long ago.” I played it cool.

Really? What was happening? My heart started thrumming against my chest.

“Did he say what this is connected with? I can't fathom why they would come looking for me?” I asked again, trying to look calm.

“He was missing, I guess.” He shrugged, but studied me to see if this news would upset me.

“Oh,” that was all I was able to say. He is missing? Zevrie held out the office card for me to grab. I looked down to see the guy's name.

“He really emphasized that you should call him as soon as possible. That was why I asked you to come down.”
