Chapter 98: She Isn't Like Other Girls

“Darling, I am home.” Jane jokingly called out and I quickly went to the bathroom to wash up and threw some clothes on before meeting her in the main room.

“Why are your cheeks all rosy?” She chuckled when she saw me. I slapped my hands over them to feel if they were warm.

“I saw my gift.” I blamed it on that and she was grinning.

“When it arrived, I couldn't wait for you to come find it, but you beat me here. Do you love it?” She asked.

“You read the card, didn't you?” I chuckled at her. She clearly seems to know who sent it.

“No, but it is obvious. Bryce wouldn't send such a romantic gift. I did peek in the designer bag though, I am sorry. I just couldn't control myself.” She was and it crashed me up laughing.

“Isn't it beautiful?” I asked.

“Umm, yes. Who knows my brother has good taste.” She rolled her eyes.

“What did the card say?” She poked at me.

I won't lie and say I didn't keep that card too, I have kept all of them so far. I went to my room and brought the note to her and kept the champagne in the fridge.

“Want dessert?” I asked, turning back for that too.

“Obviously,” she practically scoffed.

“Brianna, I might have been wrong about Callan. I told you he wouldn't fight for you, but this, I don't know. I am almost one hundred percent positive he showed up in London to see you and not me. And these little thoughtful gifts…” she made my stomach twirl.

“Don't put shít in my head.” I stopped her.

I opened the veranda and sat on the little chair we have out there, with a mini folding table fit for two.

“I am serious, do you honestly think he came all the way to London to check on me? He has never done that before and I have traveled abroad with friends.” She pointed out. I fidgeted with my fingers and thought about it.

“He said this is only a physical attraction.” I remembered her.

“My brother is an idiot, he won't tell you he wants more but he might just ease into it without addressing it. I mean, there were a lot of damn roses in the box.” She thumbed behind us and teased me, I grinned.

“I know, he has brought me things and I don't know why, aside from the fact that he can afford it.” I started letting myself believe that maybe, just maybe this could be a little bit more.

“Don't get blindsided by feeling either though, Brianna. You have a lot going on here and you better not ruin it over with some guy.” She pointed a finger at me in warning. I threw my hands up in defense.

“Hey, I said nothing about that.” 

Would Callan ever openly ask me to come back? I don't think he would. I think the distance is what makes him feel like he can back out on his promises to my brother. It is like a free pass he had given himself while I am away. But what will happen when I do come back? When he sees me and Bryce together and has to face what he has done? Jane unwrapped the dessert as she set them down on the table.

“Don't get all spacey on me, girl. We have champagne to drink.” She did a silly little twirl and ended up in the kitchen.

My life has become something so wonderful, I am not used to having no major worries. I haven't had a best friend in so long, I never believed I was good enough for my dream job. I almost wished my father could see me now, just so I could flip him off and tell him he was wrong. While he was in my hometown, living an unimpressive life, I have a job in London and I am going to intern for Vogue. I have met a wonderful person, he can suck on that.

Callan POV

I actually had a free day where nothing was going on. It was rare that I am not overseeing something but since I had the free day, I decided to actually relax for once. It is not often I do, I sat on my sofa and threw my feet up. I had a whiskey and I was watching some highlights of the games. Brianna set me a morning outfit and then she and I had phone sex for the second time. I never thought I would be the type, because if I wanted pussy, I just go out and get it. But it was hot when we did it the other day and it was hot again today. I guess it is on big deal to do a little bit of long distance sex play. She isn't like other women I screw around with because she has a tie to my actual life. She will always be someone I know, she is Bryce's little sister. She told me she didn't touch anyone the other night when she went out and I was damn glad. But then I kind of felt like I was a piece of shit for not doing the same for her. I mean, we aren't dating, so I can touch who I wanted but I know it was hypocritical of me. I couldn't tell her I hadn't touched anyone either because it is not true, I fucked someone and got blowjob from her the night before we spoke. That night I ordered her a present. I cringed when I started thinking about this, then my phone pinged with Bryce's damn name across my screen. His text was short.

'I am coming up.’ I gave him the thumbs up and not even a minute later, the elevator was dinging.

When he came bounding over, I almost thought for a second that he found out about me and his sister because he looked really worked up over something. I still had my feet up and my arm across the back of my sofa but I looked at him expectantly.

“You won't fucking believe who just called me?” He started pacing around and I just continued to look at him.

“My fucking father,” he said and that got me to sit up. I took my legs off the table and furrowed my brows.

“How the hell did he get your number?” I asked.

“I don't know, I was so taken off guard that I barely had a reasonable conversation. This is fucked!” He shouted but not at me.

He was just freaking out and I know why. That is a trigger for him, it brings him back to his childhood when he wasn't an army trained veteran and he couldn't save himself or his sister from their abuse. I know, it is a trigger for him because he never talks about the man and when he does, he is always worked up just like this.

“I haven't talked to them for like eleven years, I don't understand how he had found me or why he would think it was even okay to try to speak to me. Brianna can't find out about this, she is terrified of that man.” He ran his hand through his hair and huffed a breath of frustration. I gritted my teeth when he mentioned his sister.

“Then don't tell her, we will handle this. It won't get that far.” I assured him.

“He was asking about her and I kept saying how the fúck did he get this number. He ignored me and talked over me, saying what he wanted to say.” He continued to pace my living room. My eyes darted back and forth to follow along.

“And what did he want to say?” I asked and he laughed humorlessly.

“He wanted to say that it is about time we come face to face again. He wants to see his son become a man and he asked about Brianna. He asked me where she was, he kept telling me to give him her number or to talk to her right then. He said he knows I have her with me because he knows who she has gone off to and I don't know if that is just an assumption or if he actually knows a little bit about what she has been up to. I mean, we only just started living together again and he mentioned her running off to me. I don't know what to think of this.” He muttered.

He finally plopped down on the sofa and ran a hand down his face. I sat up even straighter.
