Off Limits, Brother's Best Friend Chapter 78
Chapter 78: What Is Going On With You And Sister?
Callan
When we got outside, I started readjusting my shirt and cranking my neck to calm myself down. I would love to go back in there and finish off his beating but I know Brianna is already flipping out.
“Why did you do that?” She shoved at me, she is tiny and doesn't affect me at all but it makes her feel like she is accomplishing something so I let her keep shoving at me.
“Didn't I tell you what would happen if you didn't stay away from him? Don't say I didn't warn you.” I reminded her.
“That is none of your business!” She shouted at me on the still pretty busy sidewalk and Angelo tried ushering us out of the way and in a more private place.
“It is my fucking business and I told you that plenty of times before.” I snarled at her, she flinched at my angry tone but then puffed her chest out in anger and determination. She went to open her mouth but I just grabbed her and pulled her to me.
“He wants you, Brianna. I fucking told you he did and you played it of. Do you want him?” I asked, when she didn't respond, I was seeing red.
“Do you want him?” I gritted out to her.
“No, okay, I don't. He is cute but I like someone else.” She snapped my chest, her words settled my anger a little bit.
Even though she called him cute, she admitted she wasn't interested. She admitted the person she was interested in is me, she just didn't say it outright because my cousin is here, but I think he pieced it together now that something is going on between us. I just fought with her boss to cabin her out, Brianna and I just stared at each other for a second, both our experts were still angry but the air between us was shifting to someone else. Angelo cleared his throat to remind us we were just standing here.
“Let's go,” I said to her, grabbing her by the hand and dragging her back to my car.
“I can't believe you just did that, it is a good thing I don't work there anymore because I am mortified.” She kept talking from the passenger seat I made her sit on.
I put Angelo at the back, her arms were crossed over her chest and she stayed mad but I don't care so long as she isn't with that prick.
“It is a good thing you don't work there anymore because if you did, I would have just helped you quit right then and there.” I said as I entered the car.
“I should repeat Zaveri's words. Who the hell are you to speak for me?” She turned in her seat to scowl at me. I leaned forward and grabbed her jaw, so our mouths were close and her attention was solely on me.
“Don't say his name and don't ask stupid questions.” I warned her, she knows exactly who the fuck I am.
“Okay, things took a turn, you realize Bryce is probably going to hear about this. I would like to know what you are going to tell him since you won't answer her.” Angelo's smart mouth spoke from the back seat, she turned and agreed with him.
“If Zaveri bitches to Bryce about this then he is an even bigger bitch than I thought.” I dismissed the topic.
We drove back to the house in silence, she was mad and Angelo was treading lightly and I was still amped up about that fight I didn't get to finish. When I fight a man, I don't usually leave him standing. I followed her upstairs just to calm her down before she was going to step into her apartment with her brother there. I didn't even need to tell her a thing before Bryce opened the door as he heard our voices. Then I knew right away that Zavier had already called him. His temper isn't as quick as mine, but when he does get mad he is as tapped as I am. Both of us aren't the kind of friends who fight, but I knew that was going to change tonight. I saw him swing the door open with force and with angry eyes he darted between looking at her and looking at me.
“What do the fuck just happened?” He asked outright and Angelo replied.
“Oh boy,” he said from somewhere behind me and her eyes snapped up to me, clearly nervous to answer that question for her angry brother.
“Zaveri called me, he said you attacked him, destroyed his shop and took Brianna away. He felt worried for her safety, care to explain why?” His tone was clipped and building up the more he spoke.
“Can we get out of the fucking hall!” I waved him to step back, I know what is going to happen already. So I won't lie to his face about any of it, I have already been a shitty enough friend.
When we all stepped into his apartment, we didn't make it far. We all stood in the entryway with the door shut behind us, Angelo stood in the background and Brianna stood between her brother and myself. She was blinking up at him with guilty eyes
“I did punch him.” I admitted.
“No shit, but why?” He asked.
“Because he was being a douchebag and hitting on your sister. I did it for your sake.” I lied a little.
“Oh really, you did that on my behalf?” He muttered, I gritted my teeth but didn't engage. His eyes snapped down to Brianna.
“Tell me, Brianna.” He said, knowing he would get more out of her.
“Hey, don't corner her on this, I am the one that did it.” I stopped it right there, his eyes snapped back to me and he looked pissed.
“Now, you are jumping to her defense, Callan. I am going to ask you once, why did you get into a fight with Zaveri? And don't say it was on my behalf because that was bullshit.” I swiped my hand down my face, trying to think of a way of putting this without going too much away.
“I got a quick temper, I thought he was being slimy. One thing led to another and I punched him. So what?”
“Why are you even there to begin with? And since when do you get into other people's affairs? You never give a shit.”
“I mean, she is your little sister, did you want me to encourage that?” I snapped back.
Damn my temper, I should not be snapping at him right now.
“Bryce?” She quietly called.
“No, Callan didn't want you to talk so don't talk. Let him do the talking. What is going on with you and my sister?” He asked questions I was hoping he wouldn't.
“Nothing,” I simply said.
“Bullshit!” he bellowed out, she flinched back and started fidgeting with her hands.
“Angelo and I were right by the shop, he asked to see it so I took him there.” I muttered.
“Still, it doesn't explain why you beat the hell out of my friend and ruined his property.” He wouldn't let up.
“Beat the hell out of him? He was a fucking bitch if he said that. We threw a few punches, not my fault if he is delicate.” I waved him off.
“This isn't like you, something is not sitting with me.” He shook his head.
For the fuck sake, he isn't going to drop it. He is too perceptive and he knows it.
“Bryce?” She called again with her little voice.
“No, Brianna, don't talk to me right now. I am talking to him.” His eyes lit up with fire.
He is confronting me, he is ready to hit me because he knows. He knows I fucked his sister. I rolled my shoulders back already anticipating the hit that was coming. My friend knows me well enough, he knows what I did. I know he does, his eyes are wild in his head and that is the only thing that would explain why.
“I am asking you one more time, Callan and don't be a prick and lie to me. What is going on with you and my sister?” He asked.
Both of us had fought in combat together, we saw a lot of blood and carnage on our private mission and we have been cornered more than once together with the odds against us. We never failed one another though, we were brothers theorem it was why I wanted him to move to Port Harcourt and become a man when we got out. I knew he was loyal and a hard ass like I am. I know he isn't afraid to kill a man when a man needs killing and I know he is a smart guy who picked up on the business quickly and easily. He makes good business decisions and even though he isn't family, he ran right past all the ranks meant for a man to climb up to become made. He is my right hand man even though Angelo is really supposed to be, he is also just someone who gets on with my personality. We have had some damn good times together and I know that our promise to each other never to lie to, betray or fúck over one another is solid. But I broke that.
We had a discussion about lines we could never cross and our sisters were brought up. He made it known that it was a hard no from him the same way that I did about my sisters. We both know the kind of men that we were, we were players, assholes and criminals. Who the fúck wants their sisters to attach themselves to that. So when he asked me that question for the second time, I knew I couldn't lie to him.
