The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 140
JACE
Damn, they're getting better. Every day these guardians surprise me with how fast they improve. I stand at the edge of the training grounds, watching as they move through combat drills with precision that would make any Alpha proud. My chest swells seeing what we've built here - a force strong enough to protect what's mine.
"Guardians, form up!" I call out, my Alpha voice carrying across the field.
They immediately stop their drills and line up in perfect formation, backs straight, eyes forward. Discipline at its finest.
"Your performance today has exceeded my expectations," I tell them, pacing before the line. "Each of you shows dedication to Ancient Moon Shadow. Your commitment doesn't go unnoticed."
"Thank you, my King," they respond in unison, bowing deeply before dispersing from the field.
As they leave, I turn to Marcus and Lucas, who've been observing alongside me. Their opinions matter - Marcus with his years of experience, Lucas with his fresh perspective as Gabriel's son and our new Chief Guardian.
"They are in good form," I say, "better than I've ever seen them."
Lucas nods, a hint of pride crossing his features. "Thanks. We've been implementing new training rotations."
"You've done exceptional work," I tell him. The kid deserves the recognition - stepping into his father's role couldn't have been easy.
Lucas shrugs, humble as always. "It's a team effort. I couldn't have done it without Marcus."
Marcus claps him on the shoulder. "The schedule, training, and teaching are all you. Your father would be proud of you."
"He's right," I agree. "Gabriel trained you well, but you've made this position your own."
"Thank you," Lucas says, the weight of the compliment evident in his voice. "That means a lot coming from both of you."
We leave the training grounds together, discussing guard rotations for the upcoming week. These mundane details - they're what keep everyone alive when shit hits the fan.
By evening, I'm eager to get home. The meetings dragged on longer than expected, and all I want is to see Aria and the kids. As I approach our house, I hear grunts and growls from the backyard.
I round the corner to find Aria in her wolf form - silver fur gleaming in the fading light - training with Hunter. She's moving fast, attacking and retreating with lethal precision. Her goal is crystal clear: she's preparing to kill the Rogue King. The bastard who murdered Gabriel's mate. The monster who's haunted her nightmares since childhood.
When she spots me, she immediately shifts back to human form. Hunter tosses her a robe, which she slips on before walking toward me. Her movements are sluggish, fatigue evident in every step.
"You okay, baby?" I ask, concern tightening my chest.
"I'm fine," she says, voice raspy from exertion. "Just tired."
She nearly stumbles, and I don't hesitate - I scoop her into my arms. She doesn't protest, which tells me exactly how exhausted she really is. Aria never shows weakness willingly.
I carry her toward the house, her head resting against my chest. This woman pushes herself too damn hard. Always has, even before Sage became part of her.
As I reach the door, Gabriel and Greta are walking up the front path. Seeing Aria in my arms, Greta rushes forward, concern etched on her face.
"Is she hurt?" she asks, hands already glowing with magic.
"No, just pushed herself too hard training," I explain.
Greta nods, studying Aria with experienced eyes. "I may be able to help with more than just rest," she says. "I can create magical barriers around her to block other spells. I can boost her strength during battle. I can even place markers around your territory for basic protection."
Without waiting for permission, Greta places her hands over Aria. A soft glow envelops my mate, and almost immediately, Aria's breathing eases.
"Thank you, Greta," Aria murmurs, color returning to her cheeks.
"You're welcome, my Queen," Greta responds with a respectful nod.
Inside, we gather in the living room. I sit with Aria tucked against my side, while Gabriel takes the armchair. Greta perches on the edge of the sofa, hands folded in her lap.
"I can create a piece of jewelry for you to wear," Greta explains to Aria. "It will block others' magic, alert me to magical attacks, and I can amplify power through it to provide more protection and strength."
"Why would you weaken yourself by binding your magic to me?" Aria asks, cutting straight to the heart of the matter as always.
Greta's expression softens. "After my parents and I fled our pack, I believed I was destined to be alone forever. I never thought I'd feel the sense of belonging to a family again." Her voice wavers slightly. "Finding Gabriel after all these years... coming here... it feels like coming home."
Aria leans forward, taking Greta's hands in hers. "Greta, you came here knowing you could put your life in danger. You are home here, not because you're helping us. But because no one should be left alone unless it's their own choice. You are home, Greta. You are home."
Tears spill down Greta's cheeks. She squeezes Aria's hands, unable to speak.
After Greta leaves, we have dinner as a family. Atlas makes a mess with his food, while Aurora chatters about her day at the Wolf Cub Center. These normal moments feel precious with the threat of the Rogue King looming over us.
Once the kids are tucked in bed, Aria and I retreat to our bedroom. As soon as the door closes, I pull her into my arms, burying my face in her neck, breathing in her scent.
"I love you, Aria," I whisper against her skin. "You saved my sanity the day you set foot on Ancient Moon Shadow territory. Phantom felt something, and I did too. I smelled your scent and knew you would be mine. When I first saw you, the hole in my heart after Vanessa rejected me closed. I loved you before I even met you."
Aria wraps her arms around my neck, pressing closer. "I love you too, Jace. You've made my world whole. You've given me more than I ever dared wish for. I thought when I found my mate, I'd have to change and give up my passion to fight. But you let me be me. You let me be the fighter I am. You also gave me a family, a daughter, and a son."
We hold each other in the darkness, finding comfort in the simple act of being together. With each passing day, the coming confrontation with the Rogue King grows closer. I know Aria won't back down - her warrior spirit, human or wolf, won't allow it.
As she drifts to sleep in my arms, I stare at the ceiling, a silent prayer forming in my mind.
"Moon Goddess, I beg you, do not take her from me, from our kids. And from our people. She is the light and the kindness that we all need to fight now."
