I woke up staring at the wildflowers Maddie had given me. For hours last night, I couldn't take my eyes off them. The small note beside them simply read: "Happy birthday, my King." Just those few words made my heart race like crazy. Damn it, I'm losing it over a girl who isn't even eighteen yet.

I dragged myself out of bed and showered. My head was pounding from lack of sleep. I decided to head to my parents' place—honestly, I needed family time before I completely lost my mind. Between pack business and rejecting Tina, my nerves were shot.

When I arrived, the kitchen smelled like fresh baked muffins. Mom and my twin sisters, Natalie and Bree, were busy preparing breakfast.

"Jeez, you look worse than a zombie," Natalie blurted out the second she saw me.

"Yeah, brother, you're a wreck. Didn't sleep?" Bree added, eyeing me with concern.

Thanks for the honesty, dear sisters. But they weren't wrong—I felt like absolute garbage.

Mom looked worried as she touched my cheek. Immediately, healing energy flowed from her palm into my body. The warmth spread through me, easing the tension in my shoulders and clearing the fog in my brain. Her power always amazed me—a gift from the Moon Goddess herself.

"Thanks, Mom," I said gratefully, actually feeling a bit better.

"Why aren't you sleeping?" Mom asked. "Is it because of the rejection?"

I shook my head. "No, Mom. Actually, I'm at peace with rejecting Tina, and so is Luke." That was true—after refusing Tina, I felt relieved, like I'd dropped a heavy weight.

"Then what's troubling you?" Mom pressed, her eyes always seeing right through me.

"It's something I don't know how to explain because it's so strange. This has happened twice in our family now."

Mom nodded. "We can talk about it later. Let's eat first."

Dad joined us shortly after. We discussed last night's events and Lawrence getting his Primal Wolf form. I was genuinely happy my Beta had power nearly equal to mine. It meant I didn't always have to carry everything alone. The responsibility of being "True King" sometimes suffocated me.

The twins finished eating and left, leaving me with my parents. I took a deep breath, ready to tell them what was bothering me.

"Try to explain, son," Dad encouraged.

"Dad, when you discovered Mom was your second-chance mate, how did it feel?" I asked directly, hoping his experience might guide me.

Dad thought for a moment, then described how he was strongly attracted to Mom's scent, felt tingles when touching her, had overwhelming protective instincts, and even resented young males who came near her. As he spoke, shock ran through me—because that's exactly how I felt about Maddie.

When he finished, I took a deep breath and just said it: "Maddie."

"What?" Dad asked, though I could tell he already understood.

"I'm drawn to Maddie. I can't look away from her. Her scent, her beautiful green eyes, her warm kind heart. Last night at the top of the waterfall, I saw her and felt I needed to make sure she was safe." Saying it out loud made me feel both nervous and relieved.

"My wolf goes crazy whenever I catch her scent. I actually had to hold Luke back when I saw her at the banquet. He wanted to claim her right there," I admitted, running my hands through my hair. "Every fiber of my being screams that she's mine."

Dad and Mom exchanged a look, then Dad said, "Sounds like you've found your second chance, son."

"How old is Maddie? When does she turn eighteen?" Mom asked, getting straight to the issue—the age gap.

"In a few months," Dad answered, apparently already aware.

"Time will pass quickly, son," Dad reassured me, patting my shoulder.

After leaving my parents' house, I ran into Alpha Louis outside the castle. My heart sped up—he was Maddie's father.

"Alpha Louis, heading home already?" I asked, trying to sound casual.

"My King, I'm afraid so. As you know, my country has been having trouble with rogue wolves. My son just informed me that a small pack of about five hundred wolves was completely destroyed. So I need to return."

"If you need help, just let me know," I offered. As True King, protecting all werewolves was my responsibility.

Louis thanked me and said, "After my daughter gets here and finishes some things, we'll leave."

I nodded and continued toward my area, my heart sinking at the thought of Maddie leaving soon. France was so far away. How would I handle being separated from her for months?

Suddenly, I collided with someone. I instinctively reached out to steady them, feeling a sting in my arm. Then I smelled the familiar scent. Maddie. My heart practically stopped.

"I'm so sorry, I was rushing..." she began apologizing, then seeing it was me, gasped softly: "Oh my God."

She formally apologized: "My King, I'm so sorry, please accept my apologies."

I struggled to stay calm despite my racing heart. My palms felt sweaty, and I could hear my pulse thundering in my ears. Luke was practically howling inside my head, urging me to pull her closer.

"It's okay, Maddie... Are you hurt?" I managed to ask, fighting to keep my voice steady.

"No, my King, I'm fine. Just in a hurry, my father is waiting for me," she answered, keeping her head down.

"It's good to see you," I said, then gently lifted her chin so she would look at me: "You don't need to bow to me. Goodbye, Maddie." When my fingers touched her skin, electricity shot through my entire body.

Her cheeks turned red as she hurried away. I stood there watching her go, emotions swirling inside me. Luke growled low in my mind, clearly excited about our encounter.

'Quiet, buddy,' I told Luke mentally. 'She's not of age yet.'

'But she's ours,' Luke responded. 'In a few months, she'll be ours.'

'We need to be patient,' I argued, though I felt the same urgency he did.

'Patience isn't my strong suit,' Luke grumbled.

I shook my head and continued to my room, my thoughts still fixed on Maddie's smile. A few months of waiting seemed like forever, but for her, I would wait. I clenched my fist with determination.
