The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 227

LAWRENCE

I ran through the castle hallways, feeling Atlas's heavy emotions through our mental link. Since becoming his Beta, I could sense his moods clearer than ever, and right now he was fucking angry.

*What the hell happened?* I thought, speeding up. Rocky growled inside me, his unease making my stomach knot.

When I pushed open Atlas's office door, Jace and Aria were already there with Marcus standing nearby. Atlas paced back and forth, looking even worse than I'd sensed.

"Lawrence, come in," Jace said, motioning for me to close the door.

Atlas looked me straight in the eye. "I've decided to go to France."

"What's going on?" I moved closer, remembering our kitchen conversation not long ago. We'd discussed the French situation then, but I hadn't expected things to get bad enough to require direct intervention.

Jace took a deep breath. "Alpha Louis's pack was decimated this morning. Only a few hundred members survived, including Louis and his family."

"What?" I dropped into a chair, stunned. Alpha Louis's pack had been one of the strongest in Europe with over two thousand members. "How is that even possible?"

"We need to get there as soon as possible," Atlas's eyes flashed with determination. "Intelligence says the attackers are still hunting survivors. Every hour we delay could cost lives."

I nodded, mentally calculating what we'd need. If a pack as powerful as Louis's could fall, whoever we were facing was serious business.

"I've arranged a private jet and a transport plane that can carry three hundred warriors," Jace said, sounding exhausted. "Both will be ready by dawn tomorrow."

"That gives us less than twelve hours," I said. "I'll gather my prepared warriors. About seventy-five, plus my six trusted men. Where's Louis now?"

"In an old shelter near a neighboring pack," Jace replied. "That pack offered to let them stay, but Louis doesn't want to bring them more danger."

Atlas let out a low growl. I understood his anger – if our pack members were homeless and hunted, I'd be furious too.

"Dawn is the earliest we can mobilize properly," Jace checked his watch. "We need to be organized about this or we'll be walking into a slaughter."

"Then we leave at first light," Atlas decided. Nobody argued – his Alpha presence filled the room, making it clear this wasn't a suggestion.

Jace turned to me. "Lawrence, tell Aurora to stay at our house with Anthony. Mind-link your fifty warriors to prepare immediately. Marcus, your men and Lawrence's remaining warriors will stay behind. I want you to take my place. Aria, dear, you're in charge while I'm gone. I'll gather another two hundred fifty warriors."

"Yes, my King," Marcus nodded. Aria silently agreed.

"Atlas, go prepare," Jace told his son, who nodded and left.

"Marcus, have Greta strengthen our defenses. Double the patrols," Jace added. "We don't know if this is an isolated attack or part of something bigger."

We all moved to action. I rushed home, already worried about Aurora's reaction. She'd just finished her heat cycle two days ago and was still weak. Damn it, I hated leaving her and Anthony now.

I found Aurora in Anthony's room. One look at my face and she knew something was wrong.

"What happened?" she immediately asked. "I felt your shock, and I can feel Atlas's emotions too." She looked exhausted, her body not fully recovered from her heat.

"We're going to France at dawn tomorrow," I told her. "Atlas, your father, and me, with three hundred warriors. Alpha Louis's pack was attacked. Only a few hundred survived."

Aurora sat down, whispering, "How? You said his pack was powerful, with thousands of members."

"It was." I knelt before her, taking her hands. Rocky whined inside me, hating to leave our mate and pup. "Whoever did this is organized and deadly. We need to help before they finish the job. Every moment counts, but we need until dawn to properly organize."

"I need you and Anthony to stay at your parents' until I return. Please."

Aurora nodded. "Alright. But promise me you'll stay safe."

"Don't worry, I'll be fine," I tried to reassure her. "And Atlas will be there. He can stop those attackers, you know that." Despite my words, I knew the danger was real. If they could take down Louis's pack, we were facing a serious threat.

"I need to go prepare the warriors. We leave at dawn, but there's so much to organize before then."

"I'll pack your things," Aurora said calmly, but I could feel her worry through our bond. The subtle tremor in her fingers gave her away.

I leaned down, whispering in her ear, "I'm sorry for leaving right after your heat cycle." I kissed her forehead.

"I understand. We'll be fine," she kissed me back, but her scent betrayed her anxiety.

I forced myself to leave and gather my warriors, each step feeling like my heart was being ripped apart. Looking back at Aurora one last time, I made a silent vow: no matter what, I would return alive to her and Anthony. I turned and walked out, ready to face whatever hell waited for us in France.

AURORA

I spotted Mom and the twins waiting outside as I approached with Anthony in my arms. My arms ached from carrying him—I was still weak from my heat cycle.

Mom took Anthony from me. "They'll be here soon," she said, hugging me tight.

"They'll come back safely," I said, more to convince myself than them.

"We'll help take care of Anthony," the twins promised.

We settled in the living room, Anthony playing with toys. I couldn't stop thinking about France. A pack decimated. Thousands dead. And now Lawrence, Dad, and Atlas were heading into that danger.

I don't know how long it had been when Mom looked up. "They're here," she said.

My heart raced. I wasn't ready for goodbye.

Lawrence entered first, pulling me into his arms. We communicated through our bond instead of speaking.

*We'll be back soon,* he sent.

*Please be careful,* I replied.

*I promise.* He kissed me deeply, making my body respond instantly.

"We need to go," Dad announced. Lawrence reluctantly let me go.

Dad hugged me quickly. "I know this is difficult with it being so close to your heat. But everything will be fine."

The goodbyes were brief. Mom hugged Dad. The twins made him promise to return safely. Atlas said goodbye to Anthony, who babbled happily at his uncle.

As they prepared to leave, I held Anthony close. Lawrence looked back one last time, blowing a kiss before they shifted and disappeared into the forest.

"Come inside," Mom said. "They'll be back before you know it."

I nodded, unable to speak. Anthony reached toward where Lawrence had vanished.

"Dada?" he asked, confused.

"Daddy will be back soon," I promised, kissing his head. "He's helping people who need him."
