The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 228
AURORA
I watched Lawrence from the kitchen window as he returned home. Even after all these years together, my heart still skipped a beat whenever I saw him. What kind of spell had this man cast on me?
"Anthony! Don't run so fast!" I called out, watching my seven-year-old son bolt out the door like a bullet.
But he didn't listen—he never listens to his mother. He ran straight to Lawrence, and my four-year-old daughter Bella shouted "Daddy!" as she raced after her brother.
Lawrence bent down and scooped up both children. "My pups!" he exclaimed, lifting them high and shaking them playfully, making them giggle. Then he looked up at me with that smile that still made my heart race.
"Atlas says Maddie could go into labor any day now," he said as he walked toward the house.
"It's exciting to see them welcome their first pup," I responded. "But I bet she's nervous. I know I was. Lunch is ready."
The trip to France five years ago had changed everything. Lawrence and Atlas had discovered the local pack's homes destroyed and burned. They searched for days in the mountains until they found Alpha Louis and his family hiding in a cave.
It was in that cave that Atlas met Maddie. The moment their eyes connected, they both whispered, "True mate." Atlas had been given a second chance. After rejecting that awful Tina Reed, we'd all worried he might spend his life alone. But the Moon Goddess clearly had other plans.
Atlas marked Maddie that very night, though they agreed to wait to complete the Soul Binding Ceremony before going further. They spent weeks searching for survivors, eventually finding only about sixty pack members.
When Atlas told Maddie he would take her back to America, she hesitated. "What about my family?"
His answer made me see my brother in a new light: "They should come with us. Join our pack. They'll be protected there."
When they returned, they brought nearly a hundred additional pack members. God, the castle was crowded for months! Maddie was a good girl, spending much time helping her people adjust to their new lives.
After completing the Soul Binding with Atlas, Maddie went through several heat cycles but couldn't conceive. Dr. Maya discovered issues with her womb, giving her low chances of pregnancy. Maddie was devastated, but Atlas constantly reassured her it wouldn't change his love. Two years later—a miracle happened! Maddie got pregnant!
I still remember the day she told us. We were having dinner at my parents' house when Maddie stood up, tears streaming down her face. "I'm pregnant," she had whispered. Atlas had knocked over his chair rushing to embrace her. My normally stoic brother had actually cried, right there in front of everyone. Dad had opened a special bottle of wine he'd been saving, and we'd celebrated late into the night.
I had a similar experience. While Lawrence was in France, I went through another heat cycle and afterward confirmed I was pregnant with Bella. When Lawrence returned and learned the news, he was ecstatic.
"I hope it's a girl," he said. "A little princess just like you."
He got his wish. Bella has been daddy's little girl from the moment she was born. Honestly, sometimes I'm a bit jealous of their special bond. The way she looks at him with complete adoration makes me understand why Lawrence was so determined to have a daughter. Sometimes I catch him just watching her sleep, a look of wonder on his face as if he still can't believe she's real.
Anthony takes after Lawrence in ways that sometimes worry me. He's fearless, climbing trees higher than any seven-year-old should, racing through the forest with no concern for danger. Lawrence says it's normal, that he was the same way as a child, but that doesn't stop my heart from leaping into my throat every time I see Anthony teetering on some high branch.
"Are you feeling okay?" Lawrence's question pulled me back to reality. We were sitting at the dining table.
"Yes, I'm fine. Just a little tired," I answered, trying to hide my secret.
He nodded, finished his lunch quickly, and got up to clear the plates. That's when he spotted the ultrasound picture I'd left on the corner of the table.
He froze. "We're having a baby?" he asked, his voice suddenly hoarse. I could only nod, feeling tears gathering in my eyes.
Lawrence leaped from his chair and embraced me, holding me tight. I felt his body trembling slightly.
This wasn't our first pregnancy. Between Anthony and Bella, I'd conceived twice but lost both pups. The first time happened so early I barely had time to process it. The second time was worse. I'd made it to twelve weeks, we'd told the family, started planning—then the bleeding started during a pack meeting. Lawrence had carried me to Dr. Maya, but it was already too late. Seeing Lawrence's face when I lost the second one, the pain in his expression, I swore I'd never put him through that again. So this time, I waited until Dr. Maya confirmed everything was safe before telling him.
"I'm sorry," he whispered in my ear. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"I wanted to be sure this time," I answered, stroking his face.
He kissed me deeply—his kisses still made my body heat up after all these years. "I love you, Aurora, with all my heart and soul."
"I love you too, Lawrence, with all my heart and soul," I responded.
Later that afternoon, I sat in the backyard watching Lawrence play with the children. Anthony mimicked his father's movements while Bella danced around them. I rubbed my belly, feeling contentment wash over me.
The pack territory had grown peaceful these past years. With Dad and Lawrence working together as King and Beta, and Atlas growing into his role as True King, our lands had never been safer. Even the neighboring human towns seemed to have forgotten old suspicions. We still had challenges—rogue wolves occasionally passed through, hunters still existed in distant regions—but our family was strong enough to face whatever came.
My life had finally become what I'd always dreamed of. Though my parents gave me a wonderful childhood, this life was completely different. I had my own family, a mate who loved me, beautiful children, and a new life growing inside me. These were things I once thought I'd never have.
My father and Atlas's second chances had brought happiness and true love to all of us. And I had found my own piece of it too.
I knew this was what true happiness felt like as I gently caressed the baby growing inside me.
