The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 272
ROUGE KING
The walls shook when I roared. My fury made the air tremble. Everyone scattered like frightened mice—everyone except Tara. The witch cowered on the floor, pathetic and useless.
"I'm sorry, my king. I failed," she whimpered, body shaking. "Their bond was too strong. I couldn't break it."
I grabbed her by the throat, lifting her until her feet dangled. "You promised me results. You swore your magic could sever their connection."
Her eyes bulged. "Please—"
I dropped her, disgusted. "If you have no value to me, what reason do I have to keep your children breathing?"
That got her attention. She crawled forward, grabbing at my boots. Disgusting.
"Great Magnus, please, one more chance. I'll find another way. Don't hurt my children."
I kicked her hands away. "Perhaps I'll let my vampires have a taste. Young blood is so... refreshing to them."
"No! Please! I'll do anything!"
"Get out of my sight." I turned my back to her. "Find me a solution by tomorrow, or your failure becomes their death sentence."
She scurried away, sobbing. Pathetic. Everyone was so pathetic in this world.
I walked to my private chambers, slamming the door behind me. The world ran better when there wasn't a so-called "King." Who decided that a pup should rule all werewolves? Why would the Moon Goddess bestow such power on Atlas? What made him worthy?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
The old ways needed to die. The packs, the territories, the pure bloodlines—all of it. I would reshape this world in my image.
"Pure blood is a lie," I muttered to myself, staring at my reflection. "Mixed blood is the future."
A knock interrupted my thoughts.
"Enter."
Two guards wearing silver masks dragged in a small human girl with golden hair. She trembled, eyes wide with terror.
"Where am I? Why am I here?" Her voice cracked.
I approached her slowly, smiling. The guards held her arms tightly.
"Tell me, little human, what's your name?"
She hesitated, then whispered, "Amber."
"Amber," I repeated, savoring the word. "You're here to feed me."
I moved faster than her human eyes could track. My fangs punctured her neck, and her warm blood filled my mouth. Sweet. Rich. Pure. She struggled briefly, then went limp. I drained her completely, feeling her life force energize me.
When I finished, I let her body fall to the floor. I reached into my jacket and pulled out a small black book. Using my fingertip, I collected a drop of her blood and wrote her name in my collection. Another trophy.
I ran my thumb over the pages of my black book. Hundreds of names written in blood. Each one a memory of power taken, life consumed. Some begged. Some fought. Amber barely had time to realize what was happening. That was sixty-seven this month. Not my record, but satisfying nonetheless.
The guards remained motionless, waiting for orders. I waved them away, walking to the window.
The moonlight washed over me. I wasn't supposed to exist. My father—a vampire aristocrat—fell for my mother, a wolf from a respected pack. Their forbidden affair produced me, a hybrid child neither world wanted.
Father killed Mother when she tried to escape with me. Her pack hunted him down afterward, executing him for his crime. I was left alone, hiding, learning, surviving. Now I'm stronger than both species.
For decades I've lived in shadows, rejected by wolves for my vampire blood, hunted by vampires for my wolf nature. Each assassination attempt made me stronger. Each betrayal taught me what this world truly values—power. Not lineage. Not tradition. Raw, unstoppable power.
Every night for centuries, I've dreamed of their faces—every pack leader who refused me shelter, every vampire elder who ordered my execution. Their expressions when they realize who now hunts them will be my greatest reward. The bloodlines that scorned me will beg for mercy. I will give none.
"I understand what this world needs more than anyone... it needs change."
The guards returned silently, carrying Amber's body away. I didn't watch them leave. My thoughts were already on my next move.
"Let the world become better. And fuck the Moon Goddess and her chosen ones."
The door opened again. Anna and her twin sister entered, nearly naked except for strategic coverings. They bowed low, their red hair falling forward.
"Master," Anna purred, "the servants said you didn't play with your food today as usual."
I turned, a cruel smile forming. "My beautiful ladies, you're always ready to please me."
They approached, helping remove my ornate robe. Their hands caressed my skin, warm against the cold emptiness inside me. Anna's sister—what was her name again? It didn't matter—kissed my shoulder while Anna knelt before me.
"We heard the witch failed you," Anna whispered, looking up through thick lashes. "We hate seeing you disappointed."
I gripped her chin. "Then make sure you don't disappoint me too."
The twins exchanged glances, a silent communication passing between them. They knew the price of failure in my kingdom. They'd seen it paid in blood many times.
"Never, my king," they promised in unison.
I thought of Atlas and his mate—their bond unbroken despite my best efforts. Their resilience was unexpected but ultimately meaningless. I had contingency plans. I always did.
"Atlas thinks he's won today," I said, stroking Anna's hair. "Let him celebrate while he can."
Soon I would send more rogues to test their defenses. Find their weaknesses. Take what I needed. The female with nature powers would be mine. The King's mother with her soul healing abilities too.
I would create the perfect hybrid army, and the old world would burn.
I yanked the twin closer, baring my fangs. She gasped, but tilted her head in offering.
