The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 207
LAWRENCE
The private jet touched down smoothly on French soil. I remained still in my seat, watching King Jace rise first—protocol demanded it. My wolf, Rocky, stirred restlessly inside me, sensing my tension. This trip wasn't just about proving my innocence; it was about protecting everything I'd found with Aurora.
As we descended the stairs, a tall man in his forties approached, immediately lowering his head in deference to Jace.
"Rise," Jace commanded, his voice carrying that natural Alpha authority. "There's no need for such formality here."
The man straightened. "Honored King, I am Beta Tom. Welcome to France. Alpha Louis has tasked me with ensuring your safe arrival at our territory."
Jace nodded. "This is Lawrence, my daughter's true mate, and Marcus, my second Beta."
Beta Tom bowed slightly toward us. "Welcome to our lands, gentlemen."
I noticed how his eyes lingered on my scars before quickly looking away. I was used to it—the marks of my warrior past always drew attention.
In the luxurious SUV heading toward the pack territory, Beta Tom began his report. "Alpha Charles from Italy arrived with his mate and grandson several days ago."
My jaw tightened at the mention of "grandson." The child couldn't be mine. I'd never even met the woman.
"Alpha Louis wanted me to inform you that the Italian Alpha attempted to bribe him." Beta Tom handed Jace a folded note.
Jace read it quickly, his expression hardening. "So he wanted your Alpha to instruct the doctor to create a false medical report stating the boy is Lawrence's son."
"Yes, King. Our Alpha hoped you'd know this, in case he succeeded through other channels."
"We've known it was a lie all along, but now we have evidence." Jace's voice was measured. "Please discretely thank your Alpha when appropriate. I don't wish to put him or your pack in danger."
"Yes, sir. I will. Thank you for your consideration."
I remained silent throughout the exchange, but inside, relief and anger battled for dominance. Relief that we had proof of the attempted deception, anger that someone would try to manipulate my life this way.
The SUV pulled up to an impressive stone building. A man in his sixties waited at the entrance, standing tall with the unmistakable bearing of an Alpha.
"King Jace, welcome to France and La Meute Fantôme. I've prepared rooms for you all." His English carried a thick French accent.
Jace extended his hand. "Alpha, thank you for your hospitality and assistance. Your Beta speaks highly of you."
"It is my honor," Alpha Louis replied, shaking Jace's hand firmly.
He led us through ornate hallways into a meeting room. The moment we entered, my blood ran cold. Sitting beside Alpha Charles was a woman I recognized immediately from the photographs Aurora had shown me—Vanessa, Aurora's birth mother.
Jace's reaction was immediate and ferocious. "What the fuck are you doing here?" he growled, his voice dropping to a dangerous tone that made Rocky instinctively cower.
"Do not speak to my mate that way," Alpha Charles snapped. "You may be a King where you come from, but here you are merely a visitor."
Vanessa smirked. "I'm here as Charles's mate."
Alpha Louis looked confused. "What is happening?"
"This woman," Jace explained, gesturing to Vanessa, "is my daughter's birth mother. She abandoned her when she was only months old because she was a girl."
Alpha Louis's shock was evident. "Madame, perhaps out of respect—"
"She can stay," Jace interrupted, his eyes never leaving Vanessa. "If he's happy to have her as his mate, that's his choice. I simply left my Queen at home caring for my pregnant daughter."
I watched Vanessa's face closely. Her expression shifted momentarily at the mention of Aurora's pregnancy—a flash of shock quickly masked by indifference.
Alpha Louis cleared his throat. "This is my head doctor, Dr. Claude. He will handle the sampling."
The doctor explained that both the boy and I would provide hair samples and blood samples. Alpha Louis added, "To ensure fairness, you may appoint someone to accompany Dr. Claude until the testing is complete."
Jace immediately designated Marcus for this task.
"Very well. The tests will be completed tomorrow, so I suggest you rest before dinner tonight," Alpha Louis offered.
As we left the meeting room, Vanessa approached me.
"Aurora is pregnant?" she asked, her tone almost casual.
I maintained eye contact, keeping my voice steady. "Yes, we're very excited to meet our son." Without waiting for her response, Jace and I walked away, leaving Charles and Vanessa behind. Marcus remained outside with the doctor and one of Charles's men.
Rocky growled inside me, urging me to turn back and confront her—this woman who had caused Aurora so much pain. *She's not worth it*, I told him silently. *We have more important things to protect now.*
Alpha Louis led us to a family suite with a small common sitting area and several bedrooms. Once alone, Jace turned to me with an unexpected smile.
"Was my shock convincing enough?" he asked with a light chuckle.
I couldn't help but smile back. "Convincing enough that Rocky instinctively cowered."
"Good. Let them think we didn't know about Vanessa. It helps protect her son's safety, which is the least we can do after all the information he provided."
"Yes, absolutely."
"I think we did surprise them, though. Especially Vanessa," I added, remembering her expression.
"Tomorrow's test results will end this charade," Jace said firmly. "Try not to worry too much. Focus on Aurora and your child."
The mention of my unborn son sent a wave of fierce protectiveness through me. Everything I'd fought for in my solitary years now had new meaning—I was fighting for my family.
In my assigned bedroom, I decided to rest before dinner and call Aurora. I missed her terribly. This was the first time we'd been separated since bonding, and I felt her absence like a physical ache.
When she answered, her voice instantly soothed something within me. We talked for hours, about everything and nothing. I told her about the flight, about France, carefully omitting the presence of her birth mother for now. That news could wait until we had more information.
"The building where we're staying has these incredible stone arches," I described, picturing her curious expression. "You would love the architecture here. Someday, I'll bring you."
As I spoke with Aurora, I felt centered again. No matter what challenges we faced, what lies people spread about me, I had found my true home in her. And I would do whatever necessary to protect our future together.
"I love you," I whispered before ending the call. "More than anything."
Her gentle response echoed in my mind long after we disconnected, giving me strength for whatever tomorrow would bring.
