The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 247
MADDIE
I woke remembering last night—Gina and Julie becoming mates. This relationship might be exactly what Julie needed to escape her darkness.
I stretched and headed for the shower, letting hot water wash away the last traces of sleep. After drying off, I stood before my closet, fingers trailing over various options before settling on a deep red bodycon dress. I paired it with knee-high flat boots and braided my hair into a long plait.
The mirror reflected back a version of myself I felt good about. The red complemented my skin tone, and the dress was elegant without being too formal. Perfect if I happened to run into Atlas today.
As I descended the stairs, his scent hit me. Atlas was already downstairs, earlier than I'd expected.
I rounded the corner and there he stood, dressed in dark jeans and a red button-up shirt that stretched across his broad shoulders. When he saw me, his breath caught in his throat.
"Atlas," I said, unable to keep the smile from my face.
"Hey, beautiful," he replied, his eyes taking me in. "You look absolutely stunning."
Heat rushed to my cheeks. "You look pretty good yourself."
He took a step closer. "If you don't mind, I'd like to take you out for breakfast."
"I'd love that," I replied.
Atlas hesitated for a moment. "Just one thing though... I don't want your dress getting ruined. Maybe you could change into something more comfortable?"
I raised an eyebrow, curious about what he was planning. "Should I be worried?"
"Not at all," he said with a mysterious smile. "Just trust me."
I nodded and headed back upstairs, wondering what Atlas had in mind. I changed into dark jeans and a top in the same deep red as my dress, keeping the boots. Whatever his plans were, I wanted to be prepared.
When I came back downstairs, I found Atlas talking with Blake. They stopped their conversation when they saw me.
"Perfect," Atlas said, his eyes lighting up. "You looked amazing before too, but this is better suited for what I have planned."
I smiled at Blake as Atlas took my hand. "We'll see you later," I said.
Blake waved us off, and we headed out the door, Atlas's warm hand firmly holding mine.
ATLAS
I woke early, determined to take Maddie to breakfast—just the two of us. After a quick shower and change into dark jeans and a red button-up, I headed to her house.
When she descended the stairs in that red dress, time stopped. Her beauty struck me speechless—sexy yet somehow innocent. I couldn't look away.
Her cheeks flushed that perfect shade of pink when I complimented her. I suggested breakfast but asked if she might change, partly to preserve my sanity, partly to protect that gorgeous dress.
While waiting, Blake appeared, teasing me about my obvious feelings for his sister. I didn't bother denying it.
When Maddie returned in jeans and a red top that matched mine, she looked just as breathtaking. I took her hand and led her outside, savoring the moment.
"Where are we going?" she asked as we walked toward the garage.
"You'll see," I replied, enjoying the curiosity in her eyes.
I stopped in front of a four-wheel ATV and watched her reaction. Her eyes lit up with excitement, exactly as I'd hoped.
"Are we going for a ride?" she asked.
"Something like that," I answered, enjoying her enthusiasm.
She approached the ATV, running her hand along its frame. "We're riding this?"
"Yes, if you're not scared," I teased, already knowing she wasn't.
She playfully smacked my arm. "Let's go."
I climbed on first and felt her settle behind me, her arms wrapping around my waist. The feeling of her pressed against my back sent warmth throughout my body. I started the engine and headed toward the forest.
As we picked up speed, Maddie let out a delighted squeal, her arms tightening around me. I loved having her this close. I almost wished the journey was longer.
I noticed changes in the forest as we rode—new trees and flowers that hadn't been there before. Strange.
Twenty minutes later, we approached the waterfall. I was so distracted by the sight before me that I hit the brakes harder than intended.
"Damn, sorry... are you okay?" I asked, turning to look at her. "I'm really sorry."
"I'm fine," she whispered. "Just startled."
I stared at the waterfall in amazement. It was more beautiful than ever—fresh grass and flowers of every color covered the ground. Even the rocks around the waterfall were blooming with colorful aquatic flowers. It was like magic had happened overnight. I'd been here just last night, and everything had been normal.
I noticed Maddie watching me with a nervous expression. She seemed to be having some internal conversation. Then she leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on my lips before walking a few steps away and sitting down.
I was about to follow when something incredible happened. A beautiful moonlight flower grew beneath her fingertips, becoming tall and magnificent within seconds.
Maddie didn't look up, as if afraid to see my reaction. I walked over and sat beside her, gently tilting her chin up so she would look at me.
Her eyes finally met mine, and whatever she saw there made her relax. I wasn't angry or disappointed—how could I be? I was surprised, amazed, and filled with love for this extraordinary woman.
"Did you do that?" I asked softly.
She nodded. "Sort of," she whispered. "It's my wolf that does it."
"I swear I was going to tell you," she continued, her voice small and nervous. "I just didn't know how to say it. I was afraid you'd be disappointed."
"How could I be disappointed? My mate isn't just beautiful with a beautiful soul, but has a powerful wolf too? I could never be disappointed. Ever."
"But I'm not what you expected," she said sadly.
"But you are, and so much more," I assured her. "Maddie, you could never disappoint me. You're kind and gentle and amazing. This is just another amazing part of you. I'll help you understand and control it however I can. I'm guessing you haven't mastered it yet, as I feel this was your wolf's doing."
She nodded in confirmation.
"When did you discover this ability?" I asked.
"A few months before my birthday," she explained. "My father told me it runs in the family. I was doing it as a baby. That's how they knew."
I was fascinated by this revelation. My mate had a rare gift—one that explained the sudden beauty around the waterfall.
"This is amazing," I said, gesturing to the transformed landscape. "Let's have breakfast."
I retrieved a cooler and blanket from the ATV and set up our meal. We ate and talked about everything and nothing, enjoying the peaceful setting she had unknowingly created.
After we finished, I packed everything away and sat down on the blanket, pulling Maddie between my legs so her back rested against my chest. She leaned into me with a contented sigh.
I wrapped my arms around her waist, holding her close. Being with her like this felt right.
