The table fell silent, all eyes turning to me. The twins stopped their whispered conversation mid-sentence. Atlas set down his fork with a clatter. Aria's hand froze halfway to her glass. Jace's face hardened into his Alpha mask, but his eyes encouraged me to continue.

Aurora sat up straighter, worry in her voice. "What is it?" Her eyes searched mine, already trying to comfort whatever pain she saw there.

This accusation could change everything. Would they still accept me? Would Aurora still look at me with that same love in her eyes? Rocky pushed against my consciousness, urging me to speak clearly and with confidence.

"First, I want to state that this is completely untrue, not one bit of it, I swear." I needed that clear from the start. My hands gripped the edge of the table, knuckles turning white. "Alpha Charles Huntington from central Italy claims that years ago I mated with his daughter during her heat cycle and got her pregnant."

I looked directly into Aurora's eyes, my voice firm but starting to crack with emotion. "I swear I've never been with her or any wolf in heat. Before meeting you, I never marked anyone. I wouldn't do that—couldn't do that. This accusation is completely fabricated."

Aurora's face paled to a ghostly white. Her fingers unconsciously touched the mark on her neck, a gesture of uncertainty that twisted the knife in my heart. Her other hand moved protectively to her stomach, where our child was growing. That small movement nearly shattered me. Did she doubt me? Was she afraid for our baby?

"Aurora," I whispered, reaching for her hand across the table. "Please believe me."

She didn't pull away, but her fingers trembled beneath mine. I could almost see the thoughts racing behind her eyes—questions, fears, confusion.

The room went completely silent. You could hear the heavy breathing of everyone present.

The family's reaction twisted in my gut. Would they believe me? Would they think I'd betrayed their daughter, their sister? Would they ask me to leave, to stay away from Aurora and our unborn child?

Rocky growled in my head. *We've done nothing wrong. Stand strong. Our mate knows the truth in her heart.*

I straightened my shoulders, looking at each family member in turn, willing them to see the truth in my eyes. "I would never betray Aurora. Never. This claim is meant to hurt us, to divide us. I don't know why Charles is doing this, but I will do whatever it takes to prove my innocence."

Jace's expression remained unreadable, but I saw something soften around his eyes. He believed me—or at least, he wanted to.

Atlas frowned, breaking the silence. "How do we handle this?"

Jace set down his utensils, his expression serious. "I've contacted an Alpha in France known for being fair, powerful, and trustworthy. His doctor will conduct the necessary testing. When we have the results, hopefully this will resolve the issue once and for all, and Charles will abandon this ridiculous accusation."

AURORA

My heart felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand. Lawrence accused of being with another woman... during her heat? I couldn't meet his eyes, afraid of what I might see there. But when I finally gathered the courage to look at him, I saw only pain and honesty. He wasn't lying. I could feel it.

"What if he doesn't accept the results?" Mom suddenly asked, her voice full of concern. "What if he starts attacking other packs? He might target Alpha territories allied with us."

Dad's expression grew even more serious. "I'm aware of that possibility. If it happens, we'll go provide support." Mom nodded, but the worry in her eyes remained.

A question suddenly occurred to me. "Lawrence?" I called his name softly.

He immediately looked at me, his eyes full of love and concern. "What is it, beautiful?"

"How did he know you were here?" I asked, my mind racing. "I never met him in Italy. And the wolves who saw us never really got a clear look at you."

Lawrence shook his head. "I don't know."

A thought flashed through my mind. "Someone must have told him."

"Maybe we'll find out who," Lawrence said.

Back home, I stared at my phone for a long time, struggling with whether to make the call. I knew I had to. I believed Lawrence, seeing his pain and sincerity made my heart ache for him. Someone was behind this, and I had a feeling I knew who.

Taking a deep breath, I dialed.

"Hello," Montgomery's voice came through.

"Montgomery, it's me, Aurora."

"Aurora, how are you? I'm sorry I couldn't properly say goodbye."

"I should be the one apologizing..." I said softly. "I don't blame you. Everything just happened so fast."

"I understand," he paused. "Didn't expect you to call, thought you wouldn't want reminders."

"But I need your help, if possible."

Montgomery sighed. "I already guessed what you're asking." After a moment, he continued. "Vanessa hasn't been home for almost a month. I don't know where she went." He hesitated. "Before she left, she kept talking about your mate, saying he looked like 'that dead Alpha.' I told her she should let you live your life, let you be happy."

Of course she would do this. Not content with ruining her own life, she had to try to destroy mine too.

"She never wanted me to be happy."

"Alpha Alexander says he's ready to help if you need it."

"Thank you, I'll tell my father." I hung up, anger burning inside me.

I turned to see Lawrence standing there, his eyes full of concern. I walked over and sat in his lap, resting my head on his shoulder.

"Montgomery says Vanessa was in Charles's territory last month," I whispered. "After telling me she recognized you because you look like your father, I think we know who started this. I'm so sorry."

Lawrence cupped my face, speaking gently. "This isn't your fault, darling. You didn't make her do this. We'll be okay, I promise."

"If I hadn't gone looking for her..."

"If you hadn't gone looking for her, we wouldn't have met," he interrupted. "Meeting you is the best thing that ever happened to me. I would never want to change that."

That night, lying in Lawrence's warm embrace, I couldn't sleep. I hated her, hated my birth mother Vanessa for doing this to disrupt my life. But I also realized more clearly that these experiences brought us together. It was the best thing that ever happened, and we were about to welcome our first child.

Kaila growled in my mind. *She won't hurt us or our pup. We're stronger than her games.*

I placed my hand over my still-flat stomach, feeling a fierce resolve wash over me. This child would know love from the moment they existed. They would never question their worth or place in this world.

I made a silent vow: I would never treat my child like my mother treated me. I would always love and protect them, just as Aria had done for me.

"I love you, forever," I whispered to Lawrence, falling asleep in his arms.
