The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 192
AURORA
I gasped, my knees nearly buckling. She'd tried to abort me? The casual way she admitted attempting to end my life before it began shattered something inside me. My stomach churned with nausea.
"So I left," she continued, examining her nails as if discussing the weather. "Broke all bonds. Found someone who could give me what I wanted. Much better deal." She glanced sideways at Montgomery, her lips curling with distaste. "Though that didn't work out perfectly either."
I stood frozen, stunned by her callousness. The pain I'd carried for years crashed over me anew, but something else emerged alongside it—clarity.
"You destroyed me!" My voice broke. "I never had my wolf, my first mate rejected me because of it..." I took a breath, steadying myself. "I don't regret coming here, because I found Lawrence, and completing our mate bond healed what you broke."
Lawrence moved closer to me, his presence giving me strength. My chest heaved with emotion, years of questions finally answered in the worst possible way. Every nightmare I'd had as a child about not being enough—they were all based on a terrible truth. She never wanted me. Never. Not for a second.
Montgomery stood silently in the corner, his expression pained. I caught his eye briefly, seeing a reflection of my own hurt there. I wondered how many times she'd made him feel worthless too. At least we had that in common—surviving her poison.
"Hearing you say this, I know the problem was never me. It was your selfishness, your inability to care about anyone but yourself." My words gained confidence. "I'm actually glad to hear you say it. Now I'm one hundred percent certain that when Dad sent you away, it was out of love for me."
Vanessa just rolled her eyes. "You always were dramatic. Your father coddled you too much. Made you soft." Her gaze hardened. "Maybe if you'd been raised by me, you'd have grown some backbone."
I almost laughed at the absurdity. Backbone? After everything I'd survived because of her?
I turned to Lawrence, suddenly desperate to escape this toxic presence. The air felt too heavy, smothering me with decades of rejection. "Please take me out of here."
Lawrence didn't hesitate. His arm wrapped around my waist, supporting me as my legs threatened to give way. Alexander nodded, understanding in his eyes, and led us to a bedroom down the hall. I barely registered the luxury surrounding us, my mind replaying her cold words on endless loop.
Once alone, my composure shattered completely. I slid to the floor, violent sobs tearing through me. Lawrence gathered me in his arms, lifting me onto the bed where I cried until exhaustion claimed me.
**LAWRENCE**
Aurora slept fitfully in my arms, her face still wet with tears. I'd never felt so helpless. My strong, beautiful mate had been broken by that woman's cruel words, and I couldn't protect her from it. The sound of her crying had shredded my heart. She'd been so brave, so dignified in that office, but now the walls had crumbled.
Rocky, my wolf, paced restlessly in my mind. *Protect mate. Hurt. She hurts. Kill the bad female. Rip throat.*
"I know," I whispered to him. "But we can't fix this with teeth and claws." Though part of me wished we could.
I gently stroked Aurora's hair, wiping away fresh tears that escaped even in sleep. Her breathing was ragged, punctuated by small whimpers that tore at my soul. I had sensed her desperation to find her birth mother, but never imagined this outcome. That cold-eyed woman hadn't just abandoned Aurora—she'd tried to prevent her existence altogether. The thought made my blood boil with rage I couldn't express. If we hadn't been in Alpha Alexander's territory, I might have lost control.
I remembered the shock on Montgomery's face during the confrontation. The poor kid had been another piece in Vanessa's elaborate scheme, though he'd escaped her influence early. At least he and Aurora might find some connection through this shared experience. Perhaps something good could come from this nightmare.
A buzzing sound caught my attention. Aurora's phone lit up on the nightstand. I hesitated, not wanting to invade her privacy, but the screen showed a message from "Dad."
[Aurora, Alpha Alexander just called, said you met with Vanessa and it didn't go well.]
I debated with myself. Aurora needed rest, but her family deserved to know she was safe. Would answering be overstepping? But she needed support from all those who loved her now more than ever.
I carefully reached for the phone, trying not to disturb her sleep.
[Hello, Jace King. This is Lawrence. Aurora is sleeping. I saw your message. Yes, the meeting went badly. I've never felt someone so desperate and broken. I'm trying to be here for her, but I'm not sure it's enough.]
I sent the message, hoping I hadn't crossed a line. Within minutes, a reply came, but not from Jace.
[Hello Lawrence, thank you for replying or we would have worried more. Jace feared this would happen and is furious to be proven right. First, thank you for taking care of our daughter and being honest with us. Jace is contacting a pack member currently vacationing in Italy. He and his wife will come get you both and bring you home. I know you probably won't have much time to pack, but I promise we'll help retrieve your things.]
The message was signed "Queen." Aurora's mother. I immediately responded:
[Queen, please don't worry about my things. Aurora is what matters. I'll inform Alpha Alexander and make sure we're ready.]
Her reply came quickly:
[Please, Lawrence, call us Aria and Jace. You're family now.]
Family. Something tightened in my chest. I hadn't been part of a real family since I was a child. The word felt foreign yet desperately welcome.
[I will. Thank you. See you soon.]
[See you soon, Lawrence.]
I set the phone down and looked at Aurora's sleeping form. Despite everything, I felt a strange sense of relief. We were going home—to her home, which would become ours. I'd meet her family, the people who had shaped this extraordinary woman. I'd never had a proper home, never belonged anywhere. The prospect was both thrilling and terrifying. Would they truly accept me? An orphaned warrior with nothing to offer but my devotion to their daughter?
Aurora whimpered in her sleep, her face contorting with pain. I gently tightened my arms around her, wishing I could chase away her nightmares. Seeing her in such pain made me realize how deeply I'd fallen for her in our short time together. I pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, tasting the salt of dried tears.
"I've got you," I whispered into her hair. "I'll always protect you."
Chapter 219 Chapter219
LAWRENCE
As dawn broke the next morning, I watched Aurora sleep, her face streaked with dried tears. Rocky paced restlessly in my mind, thirsting for vengeance.
*Kill bad female. Protect mate.*
"Not helpful," I muttered.
A knock interrupted my murder fantasies. Alpha Alexander stood outside, his expression serious.
"Lawrence, King Jace's people have arrived."
Already? I wasn't ready to meet Aurora's family - especially not looking like death warmed over and mentally plotting her birth mother's demise.
"I'll wake her," I said quickly.
I grabbed our bags and gently shook Aurora. "Hey. Your father sent people."
Her swollen eyes opened. "Who?"
"Don't know. But we're leaving this hellhole."
She sat up, wincing. "Thank god."
Outside, Alexander stood with two werewolves - a tall, commanding man and a petite woman who rushed forward. Beta Marcus stood imposing, shoulders speaking of years of combat training. His mate Seraphina matched his intensity despite her smaller size, her eyes sharp with worry.
"Where is she?" The woman spotted Aurora. "Oh, Aurora."
The man addressed Alexander. "Sorry, Alpha. Since our King called, my mate's been worried sick."
Alexander nodded. "Understandable, Beta Marcus. Still Beta?"
"Sort of. King has another Beta too. I'm more advisor now. Second Beta, if you will."
Alexander turned to me. "Beta Marcus, this is Lawrence."
Marcus sized me up. His eyes lingered on the scars visible on my arms and neck. Rocky bristled, hackles raised in my mind, not appreciating the scrutiny.
"We haven't met," Marcus said, "but King mentioned the princess found her mate. Northern territories speak well of you."
Decent? That's like calling a raging wildfire "a bit warm." I nodded respectfully anyway, feeling the weight of his assessment.
"Aurora needs rest," I said bluntly. "She's been through hell."
Marcus nodded to his mate. "Check on her, Seraphina."
"I'll take you to her," I offered, relieved to escape the scrutiny.
Walking back, Seraphina attempted small talk. "We're glad to meet you, Lawrence. Wish it were under happier circumstances."
I grunted, too tense for chitchat. My thoughts raced with everything that had happened. Aurora finding her mother. The crushing rejection. Her tears soaking my shirt for hours.
In the room, Seraphina touched Aurora's face and froze. "Is that... her wolf spirit I feel?"
"Yes. Kaila. Our mate bond woke her."
Seraphina was shocked. "Her wolf is protecting her through sleep. We need to take her home to America."
"Absolutely," I agreed. Anywhere but here.
"I'll arrange help with the luggage and—"
"Just the luggage," I interrupted firmly. "I carry her myself." My tone left no room for argument. No stranger was touching my mate.
Two Omegas appeared to help with our bags. They worked quickly, avoiding eye contact with me. Good. My patience was paper-thin.
I scooped Aurora into my arms, cradling her against my chest. She mumbled something in her sleep, nuzzling closer. Her scent was the only thing keeping me grounded amid the chaos.
At the airfield, Seraphina thanked Alexander before boarding. I stood with Aurora in my arms when Montgomery approached. Great. Just what I needed.
"Lawrence," he called. "I'm sorry about what happened. I didn't know."
I shifted Aurora. Rocky growled, wanting to snap at this male who shared blood with the woman who hurt our mate.
"I thought her lie about Aurora being dead was just painful memories," he continued. "I've cut ties with her completely." He offered an envelope. "My number's inside. I'm her brother, though she doesn't know me. Tell her no pressure."
I studied his face, seeing genuine regret there. He seemed nothing like his cruel mother. The realization softened my anger slightly, though Rocky remained suspicious.
Marcus watched us, clearly assessing every word and movement.
"Can't promise she'll call," I said honestly.
Montgomery nodded. "I understand. She has every right to want nothing to do with any of us."
I turned to Alexander. "Thank you for everything, Alpha. Even if things didn't go as planned."
"Good luck, young man," he replied, genuine warmth in his voice.
On the plane, I settled Aurora into a seat before buckling myself beside her. I held her hand, tracing circles on her palm with my thumb. The plane started moving, engines humming.
The flight stretched on, giving me too much time to think. What would Aurora's father think of me? A wanderer with no pack, no status, claiming his daughter. Would her siblings accept me? Rocky's confidence didn't transfer to the human part of me that felt woefully inadequate.
My hands trembled slightly. America. New pack. New family who probably expected some worthy warrior for their princess, not a battle-scarred nobody with nothing to offer but devotion.
*She is ours,* Rocky reminded me. *We protect. We love.*
"Yeah," I whispered. "We do."
Hours later, Marcus nudged me. "Look outside."
Mountains and forests stretched below us, wild and vast. The landscape was breathtaking - dense forests running alongside crystal lakes, jagged peaks reaching toward the sky. Glimpses of rivers snaked through valleys, and clearings dotted the wilderness. This was prime wolf territory, untamed and perfect. The sight made Rocky howl with excitement in my mind, recognizing land where we could run free.
"It's breathtaking," I admitted, feeling the pull of those forests. "I can feel Rocky getting excited."
"Landing soon," Marcus said, adjusting his seat. "King and Queen are waiting." He paused. "Just so you know, the King wants a wedding for his daughter."
A wedding. Perfect. More pressure. My throat tightened at the thought of standing before an entire pack, claiming their princess. Me, an orphan warrior with nothing to my name but scars and a stubborn wolf spirit. What did werewolf royalty even wear to weddings?
"Fine by me," I managed, throat tight. "They're the best reason to bring her home."
The plane began descending, metal groaning as wheels prepared for landing. I squeezed Aurora's hand and fought the urge to vomit. What if her father took one look at me and decided I wasn't worthy? What if the pack rejected me? I pushed down the doubts, focusing on Aurora's steady breathing beside me.
*Time to meet the family,* I thought, my pulse racing wildly. Rocky offered encouragement through our bond, but it did little to calm my nerves.
It was time to meet my new family.
