The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 59
ARIA
"What's going on here?" I asked.
Everyone froze, heads turning toward me. The room went quiet.
An older woman—probably the girl's mother—stepped forward nervously. "Luna, I apologize for my daughter. She meant no harm to Miss Scarlett."
Before she could explain further, Scarlett cut in. "This stupid girl dropped dirty water all over my expensive new boots." Her voice dripped with contempt.
I looked between them, noting the trembling girl and the puddle around Scarlett's boots. "Did you hit her?"
Scarlett rolled her eyes. "And what if I did? She's nothing but a lowlife omega."
My blood boiled. I'd been in this pack long enough to understand the hierarchy, but this was too much.
"She might be an omega, but that doesn't make her or any other omega less worthy," I said, helping the girl stand. "Without our omegas keeping headquarters clean, cooking our meals, or taking care of the pups, you'd have to do it all yourself."
I examined the girl's face where Scarlett had struck her. The mark was red and would likely bruise. Around us, a crowd had gathered, watching intently.
Without warning, I raised my hand and slapped Scarlett across the face. The crack echoed through the hall.
Gasps rippled through the crowd. Scarlett cried out, more from shock than pain. Her face twisted with rage as she stepped toward me, clearly intending to hit back. Before she could, Hunter appeared, grabbing her and pulling her backward.
"You do not hit anyone again," I said, keeping my voice steady despite my racing heart. "It's not your job to handle problems. Do it again, and I'll make you regret it. I won't be pregnant forever and can easily deal with you when I'm not. The girl made a mistake and apologized. Leave her alone."
Scarlett sneered. "You think you're so important just because you're Jace's mate."
Her eyes narrowed as she examined me. "Let's be clear—you're just a human who got lucky. The Moon Goddess gave you powers, but your blood is still inferior."
The crowd went silent.
"You weren't born one of us," she continued louder. "You don't know our ways. You're just pretending to be Luna when you don't belong."
Scarlett struggled against Hunter's grip, her face red with anger. "My family has served this pack for generations with pure werewolf blood. Now we're supposed to bow to some human Gabriel Silverbrook pitied? You're nothing but a stray he took in."
Several gasps echoed through the hall. Even Scarlett's friends looked uncomfortable now.
"You can wear the title of Luna all you want," she spat. "But underneath, you'll always be that pathetic, weak human. The only reason Alpha tolerates you is because of some cosmic mistake by the Moon Goddess. He deserves a real werewolf as his mate, not some human pretending to be one of us."
I felt my hands shake with rage, but kept my voice steady. "Are you finished?"
Her momentary surprise gave me the opening I needed.
"No, I don't think I'm important just because I'm Jace's mate. But I won't accept or watch you mistreat another person like you did today. I don't care what rank you or anyone else has. Everyone is part of our pack. Everyone matters to this pack. Even you, despite your cruelty."
I turned to Hunter, who bowed his head respectfully.
"I think a ban from headquarters for the next month will be enough this time. Make sure it happens, please."
"Yes, Luna," Hunter answered with another respectful nod.
"Thank you, Hunter."
"You can't do that, you stupid bitch!" Scarlett yelled, struggling against Hunter's grip. "You're just a human wearing wolf's clothing! Your punishment means nothing!"
She thrashed harder, nearly breaking free. "Everyone knows the truth! A brief time with a wolf spirit doesn't erase what you are—trash picked up from the human world. Your bastard child will be half-human too—a mongrel instead of a true wolf!"
The entire hall went deadly silent. Even Hunter looked shocked at how far Scarlett had gone.
"Our Alpha deserves better than polluting our bloodline with human filth," she hissed. "This pack deserves better."
"Yes, she can. And she just did. If you don't want it to be two months, I suggest you leave now."
Jace's commanding voice cut through the hall. I hadn't even noticed him arrive. Scarlett's mouth snapped shut in surprise as Hunter dragged her toward the exit. When she disappeared outside, applause broke out across the hall, accompanied by cheers directed at me.
The sudden approval was overwhelming. I turned my attention back to the girl Scarlett had struck. She couldn't be more than sixteen.
"What's your name?" I asked gently.
"Sofia, Luna." Her voice was barely audible.
"Are you okay, Sofia? Do you need to visit the healing center?"
"No, Luna, I'm fine." She kept her head bowed. "I'm sorry for what happened."
"You have nothing to apologize for, Sofia. Mistakes happen. If anyone hits you like this again, come tell us directly."
She nodded, still not meeting my eyes.
Sofia's mother stepped forward. "Thank you, Luna, for helping my daughter. She meant no harm."
I smiled at her. "It's no problem. We all make mistakes sometimes."
The crowd gradually dispersed, returning to their duties. I walked over to Jace, who stood quietly against the wall. He'd been watching everything. When I reached him, he wrapped his arms around me, a proud smile on his face.
"And you worried you wouldn't be a good Luna," he said. "You're already the best Luna this pack could hope for." He kissed me as the remaining pack members cheered for us.
"I couldn't stand watching her treat Sofia that way," I said. "Spilled water doesn't justify hitting anyone."
"No, it doesn't. I won't ever tell you not to intervene when needed. But please be careful. I don't want you getting hurt."
His concern touched me. Despite having the Moon Goddess's power now, I was still carrying our child. Our priority.
"I will," I promised.
I reached up and gave him another kiss. "I'll see you at lunch. I'm heading to the library."
"Studying again?" He smiled. "Always learning. That's my girl."
I felt warmth spread through me at his words. For someone who'd once feared becoming Luna, I was surprised by how right it felt to stand up for our pack members. The Moon Goddess had chosen me for a reason, even if I didn't fully understand it yet.
As I walked toward the library, I replayed the confrontation in my mind. My hand still tingled from the slap. I'd never been violent before, but seeing Scarlett's cruelty toward Sofia had triggered something protective in me.
People nodded respectfully as I passed. Some still looked uncertain about their human-born Luna, but more smiled with genuine warmth. Word traveled fast in the pack.
I couldn't help but feel satisfied. For all Scarlett's posturing and attempts to undermine me, she'd only succeeded in strengthening my position. The pack had witnessed me standing up for one of their own—exactly what a Luna should do.
A strange sense of belonging washed over me. For the first time since discovering this world existed, I felt truly at home.
I might have been born human, but I was becoming something else entirely. The Moon Goddess had given me a gift and a purpose. Today was just the beginning of showing everyone—including myself—what kind of Luna I could truly be.
