AURORA

The banquet hall went completely silent. The Moon Goddess stood before us, her presence filling the room with silver-blue light. My heart pounded so hard I thought everyone could hear it. Lawrence stood frozen in front of her, and for once, my always-confident mate looked stunned.

Lawrence recovered quickly, bowing deep before asking, "Respected Moon Goddess, forgive my boldness, but what do you mean by granting me Primal Wolf blood?"

The Moon Goddess smiled at him. "Perhaps 'blood lineage gift' is more accurate. This is the soul power of a Primal Wolf being bestowed upon your wolf, Rocky. Rocky will still be Rocky in essence, simply granted a more powerful form, a Primal Wolf form."

I felt relief rush through our bond. Lawrence had been worried—not that he'd admit it—about losing himself or Rocky being replaced. I wanted to run to him, stand beside him, but I stayed put. This was a sacred moment.

"You will have both forms available to you—your normal wolf form and the Primal Wolf form. Similar to your mate's father, King Jace. Yes, this transformation is imminent."

The Goddess's gaze shifted to Atlas, her eyes softening as they rested on my brother. "And you, young wolf. You have felt the power flowing through your veins because your power is different..." She moved closer to him, her light intensifying. "You are not just a King, you were born to be above all kings. Born to be their leader. The King of Kings, one might say."

Atlas lowered his head humbly, but I could see the slight tension in his shoulders. He'd always known he was special, but hearing it confirmed by the Goddess herself was different. Mom reached for Dad's hand, her eyes glistening with pride and worry.

"Your mission is arduous, sometimes even dangerous," she continued. "Therefore, you need someone you can trust completely. When the time is right, you will meet your second chance mate."

Mom gasped beside me. Second chance mate? Those were incredibly rare. I squeezed Lawrence's hand as he returned to my side, his skin unusually warm, almost burning to the touch.

"However," the Goddess added, "you must understand that your future pups will not inherit the responsibility and power bestowed upon you. This power is granted to you because the stars have foreseen that the world will need your guidance."

Atlas dropped to one knee, his voice steady despite the weight of her words. "Moon Goddess, I know I am still like a pup in many ways, but I've always known I was different... With or without a mate by my side, I am determined to fulfill my mission to the best of my ability. I will not fail your trust."

"I believe you will succeed, my child." The Goddess's voice was gentle but firm. "I know you have all the support you need, so I ask you—do you agree to grant the power of a Primal Wolf to your Beta?"

My brother's eyes met Lawrence's. I held my breath, suddenly aware of every heartbeat, every second stretching between them.

"I can think of no one more deserving of such power than Lawrence," Atlas answered seriously. "You are right, I need my Beta to have power close to mine, if not equal. I trust Lawrence with my life. He has always been loyal to my family."

The Goddess smiled brilliantly at his answer, then turned to Lawrence who had been waiting respectfully, his posture straight but reverent.

"Being a Beta means you are his right arm, the one who guards the Pack in his absence..." Her voice became grave. "You may be called upon to deliver necessary punishment, no matter how difficult... Are you prepared for these responsibilities?"

Lawrence bowed deeply. "Yes, Moon Goddess. I will serve him to the best of my ability, be his pillar when he needs one, be his faithful right arm. When he commands, I will execute without hesitation."

"Beta, kneel," she commanded.

Lawrence dropped to his knees immediately, his movements fluid and certain.

The room was silent as everyone watched. The Goddess began chanting in the ancient wolf language, her words vibrating through my bones. A silver-blue orb descended slowly from the ceiling, moving toward Lawrence, pulsating with ethereal energy.

"Lawrence, Rocky," she explained, "this soul belonged to a respected and righteous Beta among the Primal Wolves. He was a just and powerful second-in-command. Eventually, he paid with his life for his principles because he refused to execute an innocent. The King at the time killed his own Beta with his own hands."

I gasped. That was terrible! My eyes darted to Lawrence, whose expression remained solemn, though I caught a flicker of anger in his eyes at the injustice.

"He has volunteered to give his soul power to Rocky, which means he will become part of Rocky and eventually merge completely. Rocky's essence will remain unchanged, but he will become more powerful and, of course, able to shift into Primal Wolf form."

The orb hovered before Lawrence. The Goddess nodded, and Lawrence slowly reached out to touch it. Silver-blue light spread and engulfed his entire body, wrapping around him like living energy.

"It's powerful but not rejecting," Lawrence murmured. "It feels good."

"Lawrence and Rocky, do you accept this soul power?" the Goddess asked.

"We accept," two voices answered simultaneously—Lawrence's and another deeper voice I recognized as Rocky's through our mate bond. The sound sent shivers down my spine.

The core of the orb slowly entered Lawrence's chest. After several seconds, the light dissipated completely. Lawrence remained kneeling, head bowed for a long time, seemingly adjusting to the new power within him. I could feel waves of energy radiating from him through our bond.

"It is done, Beta," the Goddess declared solemnly. "Show them your new form. Let them witness the true Beta of a true King."

Before anyone could speak, Lawrence stood and his body rapidly transformed into a massive Primal Wolf. He was deep gray, almost black, with bright blue eyes that glowed with inner fire. Twice the size of a normal werewolf, his powerful muscles rippled beneath thick fur. His presence filled the room with ancient power, commanding and majestic. Several people stepped back instinctively, awed by the transformation.

My jaw dropped. "Holy shit," I whispered, unable to tear my eyes away from my mate's magnificent new form.

The Beta of the King of Kings stood before us, magnificent and terrifying.

And he was all mine.
