The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 284
ATLAS
I stood beside Maddie, feeling her hand tremble slightly in mine. The coronation day had finally arrived. My father stepped forward to address the massive crowd gathered in the grand hall. Every pack in the country had sent representatives, and even some international packs had delegates present. The room buzzed with anticipation.
"First," my father's voice silenced the crowd instantly, "I want to welcome all of you to our pack and our home. This ceremony should have happened months ago."
I squeezed Maddie's hand, feeling her tension. She looked breathtaking in her ceremonial gown, the blue diamonds at her throat catching the light. My wolf, Luke, rumbled with satisfaction inside me. *She's ours,* he seemed to say. *Our Queen.*
"War and other matters delayed us," Dad continued. "But now is the perfect time to officially welcome our new Queen."
Maddie had faced more challenges in the past months than most wolves face in a lifetime. She'd earned this title a hundred times over.
Dad turned slightly toward us. "My son, Atlas, is the first True King to accept his fated mate. Throughout our history, True Kings before him often rejected their true mates in pursuit of greater power."
I winced, thinking of the historical kings who had chosen political alliances over love. Their decisions had weakened our bloodlines rather than strengthened them.
"Maddie," Dad continued, "has not only shown her dedication to our pack, but also her willingness to sacrifice herself for others." He smiled at Mom, who stood at his side. "She protected orphaned children during the war, risking her own safety when others fled."
Maddie's face reddened. She lowered her head, staring at her hands. I wanted to pull her into my arms right there, but resisted. The ceremony demanded certain formalities.
"And most importantly," Dad's voice grew emotional, "when my mate was taken from us, Maddie petitioned the Moon Goddess to return her." The crowd murmured. "My wife didn't want Maddie to lose her powers or her wolf, so she offered her own healing abilities and wolf instead."
The hall erupted with howls and cheers, the traditional wolf way of showing respect and appreciation. The sound vibrated through my chest, and I couldn't stop the grin spreading across my face.
"Atlas and Maddie will now take over leadership of our pack," Dad announced. "My wife and I will step back, enjoy our family, and provide guidance when needed."
When he finished speaking, every pack member placed their palm against their chest—the traditional wolf sign of respect. My eyes stung with unexpected emotion. I hadn't expected this level of acceptance.
"Maddie," Dad called, his voice formal now. "Please come forward."
I released her hand, watching as she walked to stand before my father. Her shoulders were straight, chin high, but I could smell her anxiety.
"Do you, Maddie Lune, accept the sacred responsibility of leading our wolf world alongside your mate?" Dad asked.
Maddie's voice came out clear and strong. "I do."
"Do you promise to uphold our traditions while creating a better future for all?"
"I do," she repeated, her voice slightly stronger.
"Do you accept the bond with the Moon Goddess, becoming Luna of the Ancient Moon Shadow Pack?"
I held my breath. This was the moment that would solidify her position forever.
"I do," Maddie said, and I exhaled slowly.
Dad smiled, placing a silver circlet on her head. "Then I present to the Moon Goddess and to all assembled, MADDIE LUNE CARTER."
The wolves in the hall howled so loudly the windows rattled. I spotted Lawrence, Marcus, Seraphina, and Aurora all cheering enthusiastically. Mom stood quietly, but her eyes glowed with pride and a small smile graced her lips.
Then something unexpected happened. A beam of silver moonlight suddenly pierced through the ceiling, landing directly on Maddie. The crowd gasped. The light bathed her in a silvery glow that made her skin shimmer and her eyes reflect moonlight. Even Dad stepped back in awe.
"The Moon Goddess blesses her!" someone shouted, and the cry was taken up. "Queen Maddie! Queen Maddie!" The chant echoed throughout the hall.
MADDIE
The silver light poured over me like liquid moonlight, warm and tingling across my skin. I hadn't expected this. The Moon Goddess herself was acknowledging me before hundreds of witnesses. My heart pounded so hard I feared everyone could hear it.
Lily, my wolf, howled with joy inside me. She'd always been more confident about our destiny than I had been.
The crowd's chanting became a roar in my ears. "Queen Maddie! Queen Maddie!" My legs trembled beneath my ceremonial gown. This moment made everything real in a way nothing else had.
Atlas reached for my hand when I returned to his side, and I gripped it firmly as a lifeline. His warm fingers steadied me, and I gave him our signal—three quick squeezes. His eyes met mine, filled with pride and certainty.
*Speak to them,* Lily urged gently.
I cleared my throat, grateful that Atlas was beside me. "Thank you all for accepting me," I began, my voice quiet at first but growing stronger. "I never imagined standing here in this position."
The words felt inadequate for the magnitude of the moment, but they were honest. My life had been entirely different.
"I promise to do everything in my power to help my King protect our world." I meant every word with my entire being. "And I thank the Moon Goddess for her guidance and blessing."
The crowd erupted again. Several wolves partially shifted in their excitement, eyes glowing and fangs lengthening as they howled their approval.
Atlas stepped forward next to me, his presence solid and reassuring. I watched him as he spoke, drawing strength from his confidence.
"I thank you all for accepting my Queen," he said, his voice carrying effortlessly. "I know I haven't always embraced my responsibilities. But with her by my side, I promise to uphold our traditions and maintain peace in our world."
My heart swelled at his words. We would find our way together.
"The celebration officially begins now!" Atlas announced. "Traditional feast and pack run to follow."
Relief washed through me. The formal part was over.
We walked back to our family's table as servants brought out platters of food. Aria pulled me into a tight hug, her eyes bright with emotion.
"I'm so proud of you," she whispered. "You'll be a greater Queen than I ever was."
"That's not possible," I replied softly. "But I'll try my best."
"You already have," she assured me, squeezing my hands.
The silver circlet sat lighter on my head now. A promise, not a burden.
Atlas pulled me close. Our eyes met, and time stood still. The intensity in his gaze made my heart flutter—I was his entire universe.
"I love you, my Queen," he whispered, his gaze melting into mine. The invisible thread between our eyes grew stronger, almost tangible.
I melted into his embrace, breathing in his scent. My fingers traced his jawline as our eyes locked in silent devotion.
"And I love you, my King," I murmured back, watching his pupils dilate with affection. The world around us faded away, leaving only our connected souls.
