The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 218
LAWRENCE
When I took a step forward, his lips pulled back to reveal razor-sharp teeth, a deep rumble vibrating through the blood-soaked room.
"Stay back," he growled, the dual-toned voice sending chills down my spine.
I froze instantly. The scent of blood and wolfsbane hung thick in the air, but all I could focus on was Aurora's exhausted face and the tiny bundle in her arms. My heart hammered against my ribs. I'd finally found them, but now I couldn't even approach my own mate and child.
"Atlas," Jace's commanding voice broke through the tension. He stepped forward slowly, hands raised. "You did well, son. You protected your sister. But it's time to come back now."
Atlas's primal form didn't budge, his golden eyes fixed on me.
Aria moved beside Jace, her voice gentle but firm. "Aurora is safe now, thanks to you. You were an incredible brother. You need to shift back. Let Atlas return."
Something in her words seemed to reach him. The massive creature looked down at Aurora, then back at us. Slowly, he nodded. The suffocating pressure of his power began to recede, the air becoming lighter to breathe.
His transformation back was painful to watch—bones cracking, muscles shrinking, fur receding. When it finished, Atlas collapsed to the floor, gasping for breath, completely drained.
I didn't waste another second. I rushed to Aurora's side while Aria followed close behind. Jace went to help Atlas. My hands trembled as I knelt beside Aurora, scanning her for injuries, relief flooding through me when I found none.
"Are you okay?" I whispered, my voice breaking.
Aurora nodded weakly, then shifted the blanket to reveal our son's face. My breath caught in my throat. There he was—beautiful, tiny, with my nose and a dusting of dark hair.
He was sleeping peacefully, completely unaware of the chaos surrounding his entrance into the world.
"Look, he's sleeping through everything," Aurora murmured, a tired smile crossing her face. "Just like his daddy."
Marcus returned after taking Atlas to the car and noticed Vanessa lying on the floor. I'd been so focused on Aurora and our son, I'd forgotten about her.
"Not Atlas's doing," Aurora explained weakly. "Vanessa jumped in front of Charles when he tried to attack me. The men were attacking Atlas. She tried to help. I think she knew it would cost her life."
I glanced at Vanessa's still form, surprised by her sacrifice. She'd been a source of pain for Aurora, yet in the end, she'd given her life to save her daughter.
In the car heading home, Aria held Anthony while I cradled Aurora in my arms. I couldn't stop staring at her face, memorizing every feature I'd feared I might never see again.
"I nearly lost my mind," I whispered against her hair. "I thought I'd never see you again. I was ready to agree to his terms. Anything to know you were safe."
She reached up to touch my face, her fingers gentle against my stubble. "Never do that. We'll always find each other, so never give up, because I need you. We need you."
"This will never happen again, so don't worry," I promised, pulling her closer.
Jace turned from the front seat, his eyes full of questions. "What happened, Aurora? Atlas was weak when we found you. Charles had him in silver chains."
"And wolfsbane," she added, her voice hoarse. "They kept injecting him with it. But once midnight hit on his birthday, something changed. He broke free."
Jace nodded grimly. "Charles had good reason to fear his power."
Aurora rested her head against my shoulder, too exhausted to speak anymore. Her eyes drifted closed as the car rumbled beneath us, carrying us home.
AURORA
Dr. Maya examined me and Anthony carefully, declaring us both healthy despite the traumatic birth. I couldn't stop thinking about Vanessa. Her last act had been to save me—the daughter she'd abandoned years ago.
Mom had ordered her warriors to bring back Vanessa's body and burn the rest. She told Dad that I should decide what to do with Vanessa's remains. Dad agreed, saying that whatever she'd done in the past, she'd tried to save me in the end.
They were both busy caring for Atlas. His transformation into what Dad called "the power of the true king" had left him completely drained. The entire pack could feel his power—not oppressive, but more like a sense that everything in the werewolf world was about to change.
When we'd first arrived home, Dad had asked what happened. We told them everything.
Three days later, Lawrence hadn't left my side. He watched over Anthony and me with unwavering attention, changing diapers and bringing me food. The way he jumped at every sound Anthony made was adorable—this fierce warrior turned protective father.
"I want to bury Vanessa," I said while feeding Anthony. "Just something simple with a stone marker. I don't want a big ceremony, but she did save me and Anthony. So I feel like I owe her that small respect."
Lawrence sat behind me, supporting my back as I held our son. "I think that's a good idea. She wasn't a good mother, but like you said, she did save you."
After Anthony finished eating, I suggested we contact Mom and Dad about my decision and see if we could help with Atlas. Lawrence nodded, saying that as Atlas's future Beta, he should be there too.
"They'll think your decision is wise," he assured me. "I think that's why they brought her back."
I reached out to Dad through our mind link.
*Hey Dad, how's Atlas doing?*
*Hey princess,* he replied, sounding tired. *He's doing okay. I think his primal wolf is starting to find control. But he keeps wanting to find you.*
*We can come visit. Maybe that will calm his primal wolf.*
*I think that's a good idea. I'll tell your mother and Atlas.*
I relayed the conversation to Lawrence, who wasn't surprised. "It makes perfect sense. His first experience was protecting you. I'm sure he'll calm down when he sees you're safe."
I nodded, relaxing into Lawrence's arms, feeling safe and loved.
When we arrived at my parents' home, Mom rushed to us with a smile, kissing my head and taking Anthony from Lawrence's arms.
"Oh, there's my sweet girl and my grandson," she cooed, her eyes bright with joy.
"I'm fine, Mom," I assured her when she asked how I was feeling.
She told us Dad and Atlas were in the training room, and she'd watch Anthony for us. Lawrence and I made our way there, my hand gripping his tightly.
Atlas spotted me immediately and rushed over, wrapping me in a tight hug. "Sister!"
"I heard your primal wolf was looking for me," I explained. "I wanted him to know I'm okay."
"Yes. We woke up and you weren't there," Atlas said simply.
"I know. I'm sorry I didn't come sooner. I needed some time to rest."
We sat talking for a while, and I could feel the oppressive weight of Atlas's power gradually settling as he relaxed.
