The Human Girl Who Tamed Alpha King Chapter 209

LAWRENCE

I woke up feeling that heaviness in my chest again. The same one I'd carried since we arrived in France. Every minute here was a minute away from Aurora—from my pregnant mate and our unborn son. I needed this nightmare to end so we could get back to our life.

I showered quickly and stepped into the hallway, finding Jace waiting. His expression was neutral, but I could tell he hadn't slept much either.

"I should apologize for last night," I said, straightening my shoulders. "Grabbing Charles like that wasn't smart."

Jace waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it. You caught him off guard. He expected you to react, but not so quickly." A hint of approval flashed in his eyes. "Besides, I wanted to do the same thing."

We headed to breakfast, which passed in tense silence. Charles was nowhere to be seen—probably nursing his bruised ego and other parts. Alpha Louis watched everyone carefully, maintaining the fragile peace. After we finished, he invited us to his council chamber.

The ancient oak table dominated the room. Alpha Louis took his place at the head, with Jace and me seated across from each other. Dr. Claude, the respected medical examiner, stood solemnly beside Louis. Marcus sat near Jace, while Charles's deputies filled the remaining seats. Charles himself entered last, avoiding my gaze.

"Dr. Claude worked through the night to ensure the tests were fair," Alpha Louis explained. His voice filled the room with authority. "No matter the outcome, this will be resolved peacefully. I won't tolerate any arguments or shouting. Understood?"

Everyone nodded. My heart pounded so hard I wondered if everyone could hear it. Rocky, my wolf, remained alert but quiet. I wiped my sweaty palms against my jeans, focusing on controlling my breathing. This moment would determine whether I could return to my life with Aurora or face more challenges.

Dr. Claude cleared his throat. "After careful examination of both blood and hair samples, the final results show less than a 10% possibility that Lawrence has any blood relation to this pup. I can confirm he is not the father of this child."

Relief flooded through me, though I kept my expression neutral. Not that I'd doubted the result, but hearing it officially lifted a weight from my shoulders.

"I also conducted a second test," Dr. Claude continued, "comparing the pup's hair with Alpha Charles's."

Charles jerked upright. "What? You had no right to test me without permission!"

Dr. Claude remained composed. "The results show that Alpha Charles has no blood relation to this pup whatsoever."

The room went dead silent. Then Charles exploded.

"How dare you conduct unauthorized tests on me?" he snarled, lurching to his feet. His face contorted with rage as he turned to Vanessa. "You stupid bitch! You promised this would work. You claimed you found a female I had marked. And you bring me some worthless mixed-blood pup?" He switched to French, spitting words I didn't understand before continuing in English. "Consider yourself rejected. You're out of my pack. Find your own way back to Italy."

His deputies shifted uncomfortably. Charles wasn't finished.

"Find that worthless pup," he ordered them. "Dump him at the border. His mother's dead anyway, no one will come looking for him."

My blood ran cold at his casual cruelty. I gripped the edge of the table, my knuckles turning white. How could anyone treat a child so callously? Rocky growled deep in my mind, disgusted by the Alpha's behavior. I glanced at Jace, who had gone completely still—the dangerous kind of still.

"I couldn't very well have the pup's mother suddenly appearing to look for him, could I?" Charles sneered before storming out, his wolf's anger practically visible around him.

The room remained silent for several heartbeats after he left. Alpha Louis sighed deeply, looking every bit his age.

"Where is the pup now?" Jace asked quietly.

"Safe," Louis assured him. "My people moved him from the holding room to a secure location."

Jace turned to Vanessa, who hadn't spoken a word. "Are you finally done trying to destroy our daughter's life?"

Vanessa nodded wordlessly, then left the room. I watched her go, feeling nothing but contempt. This woman had abandoned Aurora as a baby, then tried to ruin her happiness as an adult. I would never understand such cruelty.

"What about the pup?" I asked, concerned about the innocent child caught in this mess. "What happens to him now?"

Alpha Louis tapped his fingers thoughtfully. "We'll find him a good home. A child shouldn't suffer for adults' mistakes."

"If I may," Dr. Claude spoke up. "The pup played well with my grandson when they met. You know my family. I would be willing to care for him, give him a loving home."

Louis nodded approvingly. "That seems like an excellent solution."

"This matter is concluded then," Louis said to Jace and me. "I apologize for the trouble you've endured during your visit."

"For now," I said grimly. "But I doubt Charles will ever leave me alone. All because of birthright I never asked for and don't want."

Jace placed a hand on my shoulder. "We'll find a way, Lawrence. Eventually he'll either give up or pay the price for his ambition."

"King Jace is right," Louis agreed. "Alphas like him eventually get what they deserve."

An hour later, I was in my room packing my few belongings. The DNA test had cleared my name, but I couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of a longer conflict. Charles wouldn't give up easily—not when he believed I stood between him and territory he wanted. I pulled out the small photo of Aurora I kept in my wallet, running my thumb over her smiling face. All I wanted was to get back to her, to feel her in my arms again.

Marcus knocked on my door. "The helicopter is ready to take us to the airfield. King Jace is waiting."

I grabbed my bag and headed out. Jace and Marcus were both on their phones, their expressions grim.

"What's wrong?" I asked, immediately alert.

Jace looked up, his face hardening. "The pack is under attack. Or still being attacked. Lucas managed to contact us, but the connection cut out. No one's answering communications now."

My heart stopped. I immediately tried reaching Aurora through our mind link. Nothing. I tried calling her phone. No answer.

My body trembled involuntarily as Rocky howled inside me, desperate to get to our mate and unborn pup. I'd never felt such terror in my life. My hands trembled as I shoved my phone back in my pocket, every muscle in my body tensing for action.

"We leave now," Jace said, his voice deadly calm. I nodded, already moving toward the exit.
