Ashley

After spending 30 minutes laying by the side of the lake we have to head back to the packhouse to see Coby and wait for Alpha Calvin to inform us of when the meeting will be held regarding my old pack. We hold hands as we walk through the forest and enjoy the peace and calm that we get from being here before we arrive back to all the madness.

As we approach the house we see the back of a black SUV as it heads towards the forest road and away from the packhouse. Once it's out of our view we can see Beta Liam and Alpha Calvin standing on the steps just outside of the front door talking but I have a feeling that they are waiting for us and I don't like the looks that they both have on their faces and Jack's hand tightening its hold on mine tells me that he's thinking the same.

"What's wrong Cal?"

"Come to my office, too many ears out here." He seems tense but still looks like he's trying to cover it with a reassuring face. The problem is I still don't know him well enough to know if it's working or not so I'm still completely tense.

We stop outside the Alpha's office while he opens the door and I feel sparks rush through me as I feel Jack press a gentle kiss to my forehead. I smile at him but before I can say anything he pulls me along behind him as he heads inside the office after Liam.

Mind you it's properly a good idea that I can't say anything because we can't mind link yet and I'm pretty sure neither the Alpha nor Beta would appreciate hearing me tell my mate what I plan on doing to him and his fine fine ass tonight!

"Now's not the time for that you horny twat!" Alfie grunts out in my head but his tone tells me he's holding back a laugh. "As if you haven't already thought about it!" We both know it's true. "Dam right I have but I just keep it to myself, it's called self-control Ash!"

"Fuck self-control. I won't have any later when I get my hands on my mate so no point having any now!"

Before he can say anymore I feel a pull on my hand and soon realize that we are already in the office and I've been away with the fairies talking to Alfie instead of having my focus in this room where it should be. Shit! Jack gives me his beautiful smile while Calvin takes a seat behind his desk, Liam takes a seat in one of the leather chairs across from him and Jack takes the other while I stand behind him resting my hands on his shoulders.

"This isn't working for me." Jack suddenly grunts out but before I can even say a word he pulls on my arms and has me sitting in his lap before I've even taken a breath. "That's better." he chimes out and I can't help but laugh and im soon joined by Calvin and Liam but Jack doesn't look embarrassed or bothered in the slightest and I must admit that I do love it. I love that he doesn't hide his want or feelings for me and more than anything I love how he isn't embarrassed about me in the slightest.

15 minutes later both Jack and I are sitting here stunned into silence at everything that Cal has told us about little Jane and her family taking her to her great-grandmother. Fuck this is a lot for us adults to take in so I can't even imagine how Jane will feel when she finds out what's going on. "Now I know that we are all eager to know more but until we hear from either Zack or Kat we are at a standstill but in the meantime, we can carry on with what needs doing here so first off, Ashley, Liam tells me that the Rogue that we are holding in our cells is someone from your old pack is that right?"

"Yes Alpha, his name is Coby."

"Ash please just call me Calvin, there's no need to call me Alpha unless we are in a professional situation." I smile at the kindness that he is already showing me before nodding and agreeing with him, "Now is he someone that you trust or do we need to be careful?" "He was one of my best friends when I lived there and he helped my dad and I escape from there, he never turned against me when others did and I would trust him with my life Calvin." My words are firm and honest, Coby may have a special place in my heart but I wouldn't lie and risk anyone in this pack, not for anyone!

"Ok, do you have any idea as to why he's here?"

"I don't but when I was talking to him in the forest earlier I sensed that he had something to say."

"Ok. What do you think about us bringing him here to talk to us? It may feel less intimating for him and as you don't see any risk in him I don't see the need to keep him in the cells for any longer than necessary." We're all quick to agree and before I know it one of Calvin's warriors Tyson comes walking through the office door with a shaken-looking Coby right behind him.

I stand up and move away from Jack as I give Coby a friendly hug and smile when I see that this has helped him calm down a little. Of course, the low growl that leaves Jack's chest at me hugging Coby doesn't help things, and soon he's tensed back up causing me to huff out in annoyance. "Don't worry he won't hurt you," I tell Coby attempting to calm him down for a second time. He looks at me with a small smile before turning his head and looking over my shoulder straight at Jack.

"He's right I won't. As long as you don't hurt my mate or anyone in this pack I have no reason to hurt you." His voice is firm but I also sense he's trying to make it sound a little softer than he wants to and I appreciate him for that. I walk back over to Jack and hold in a yelp as he swiftly pulls me down onto his lap grunting as he buries his face in my neck and inhales deeply. "MINE!" He lowly growls out as his possessive Gamma blood comes to the surface.

"I'm your's sweetheart," I whisper in his ear while I gently run my hand through his hair. Thankfully this seems to help him as just seconds later he raises his head and gives me his beautiful smile, fuck he is the most beautiful man that I have ever seen in my life! "You good brother?" I look up to see Calvin looking at Jack right before they exchange a few words and Calvin puts his attention back on Coby. "What's your name?"

"Coby Davies Alpha."

"I am told that you denounced your loyalty to your old pack when you left?"

"Yes, I did Alpha. I didn't want to be a part of that pack anymore!"

Calvin nods before pointing to a chair across the room and Tyson quickly guides Coby towards it before Calvin lets Tyson know that he can keep guard outside the office while we chat.

"Coby, what was your rank?"

"I was an Omega Alpha."

"You don't look very old so I'm guessing that by leaving the pack, you have also left family behind?" My heart drops a little and I turn my head to face Coby when I hear this question. His head drops down for a few seconds before he lifts it back up to look at Calvin, his eyes are laced with tears and it's awful to see.

"I'm 18 Alpha and no I haven't left any family behind. My parents died a year ago, they were out in their car when a storm hit... they didn't make it and I don't have any siblings or any other family."

"I'm sorry to hear that Coby." Calvin looks genuine and I know that Coby will appreciate it. "I'm sorry man. I lost my parents when I was 10 and I don't have any siblings either so I understand how you feel." Coby gives Jack a small smile before offering his condolences to Jack and I'm hoping that this will help Jack see him as less of an enemy.

"So Coby can you tell me why you left?"

"Of course Alpha. The truth is I was thinking about leaving the pack with Ashley but I never got the chance to speak to him about it before it came out that the pack was going to kill Ashley and so instead I helped him escape with his dad." Fuck I didn't see that one coming, I had no idea that he was thinking about leaving with me. "It's been 2 weeks since Ashley left the pack so what happened to make you leave?" Jack asks the question this time his tone is a lot calmer than his body feels.

"I still planned on leaving and was working on a plan but then a few days ago I was cleaning on the Alpha floor when I overheard a conversation between Alpha Roland and Ashley's mom. most of it was just random stuff but then they started a new conversation and once I heard it I knew that I had to find Ashley and fast."

As soon as I hear those words my whole body instantly tenses up and my sole focus is on Coby. "What did you hear Coby?" Jack asks as he gently takes my hand in his.

"They were talking about the black market and what way will be the quickest and most rewarding way to get what they want. They were talking about children in the black market. Ashley, they plan to sell your sister!"
