Alpha Calvin

I've barely got any sleep again and it's taking its toll on me but there are too many unanswered questions swarming around my head for me to be able to settle. I check the time to see it's 6.05 am which isn't a bad time to be in my office working except I've already been here for 3 hours and worst of all, I've barely got any work done.

A knock on my office door distracts me from my thought, someone knocking this early is never a good sign and I'm not sure how much more shit I can mentally deal with today. I shout for them to come in and relax slightly when I see my Beta Liam walk through the door with a pretty relaxed look on his face.

"Morning Cal."

"Morning brother." He takes a seat in the chair across from and even though he's smiling I can see the hint of worry in his eyes. I've known him long enough to know his looks plus I also know that same look is currently plastered across my own face. "It's early is everything ok?

"Yeah I just couldn't sleep so I thought I'd catch up on some of my paperwork before the day starts as I have a feeling that I won't be getting much done once everyone's up. I saw your light on when I passed so thought I'd check that everything is ok? I'm guessing that's why you're in here so early?"

"Yup, I'm completely fucked but I couldn't sleep there's so much to figure out."

"I know what you mean like how the fuck is Beta Matthew alive when it was very clear that he had died? I also think there's more to that Alpha Roland than he makes out. I don't doubt that the reason wasn't true to why he wanted Ashley dead but I'm pretty sure he's hiding something else too."

"And this is why you're my Beta, you have literally just said what I have been thinking Liam it doesn't make sense but we will figure it all out and that so cold Alpha Roland will pay for what he has done regardless of Beta Matthew being alive now he still had his men attack him to his death and he still wanted Ashley dead for being gay and that's without the lies that he has made up to goddess knows how many packs and the shit that he has caused!"

I take a deep breath from my rant and slump back in my chair while running my hand through my unbrushed unwashed hair. Man, I need to grab a quick shower before breakfast "How about our brother finding his mate? Now that I wasn't expecting and we may not know Ashley that well yet but I can already tell that he's going to fit in here and he and Jack are going to be amazing together!"

Talking of Jack meeting his mate brings the first genuine smile that I've managed to hold since this all started. I'm so happy for him and I know Liam is too, even if we do want our mates just as bad that would never stop us from being happy for him nor will it stop us from welcoming Ashley into our family and protecting him at all costs.

"We will figure all of this out brother trust me." He nods while giving me his look of determination and I know that he's ready for whatever is needed of him. We continue to chat for a little while longer when there's another knock at the door and in walks one of my trusted warrior's zack with his mate kat and his 8-year-old daughter Jane and I get a sinking feeling in my stomach.

"Good morning Alpha, Beta." He nods toward both Liam and me just before his mate does the same. "Good morning Zack, Kat, and little Jane, is everything ok?"

"Hmm well we need to talk with you, it's awkward and I'm not even sure what's happened and it could be nothing but I need you to know just in case." He sounds worried and nervous and has me slightly on edge. "Ok first of all come and take a seat. Would you like me to have someone to come and mind Jane for you?"

"No thank you, Alpha. I think Jane should stay here as this involves her." Ok, now I'm interested. Jane pulls out some paper and crayons from her bag while smiling brightly at her dad. "Jane, would you like to color on the table over in the corner?" She excitedly nods yes before running over into the corner while I head for my desk. I talk a seat in front of my desk turning the chair to face the family and Liam quickly follows suit. He's Beta to this pack and I never ask him to leave a meeting or conversation until the family asks or it feels like the right thing to do.

"So what's going on Zack?" He rubs a hand down his face before it goes through his hair then he sits himself up a bit straighter and takes a deep breath. "Yesterday Jane was out playing with some of the other pack children when she fell and cut her knee, she went to see doc for a plaster and apparently forgot her manners as she didn't knock on the door and wait as she has been told, she just walked in and it happened to be the room that Beta Mathew was being kept in."

The strangest feeling comes over me as all my senses heighten instantly, I don't miss Liam shift in his seat either. I nod Zack's way for him to carry on. "She got a plaster from doc and on her way out she noticed Beta Matthews laying on the bed, of course, her curious mind was too much for her and she went over to see him. She told me that he was sleeping and that she wanted to say hi to him so she took ahold of his hand and started talking to him."

He gives Jane a strange look but I'm fastly growing impatient here. "What happened Zack?" He huffed out a deep breath before looking at his mate who nods for him to continue but I don't miss the worried look that crosses her face. Before he can say another word an idea comes to mind although I'm not sure what it is I'm expecting to come out of this.

Can I talk to Jane?" Zack nods and I slowly make my way over to the small table in the corner of my office where Jane is working hard on her coloring. I get down on my hunches and plaster on my friendly Alpha smile "Hi Jane." She turns her head towards me and a bright smile takes over her face. "Hi, Alpha Calvin." She chirps

"Jane I need to ask you some questions and I need the truth from you, can you do that for me please?" She turns her head towards her parents, who give her an encouraging nod. "Jane, did you go to see doc yesterday for a plaster?" She suddenly loses her smile but I'm pretty sure I know why. "I did and I'm sorry I forgot to knock on the door first Alpha Calvin. I was just really excited to get back to my friends!"

I soften my face while giving her another smile. "It's ok Jane, you're not in any trouble." At this, she lifts her head back up, and her bright smiles quickly back. "Jane when you were coming out of the room and you saw Beta Matthew... Sleeping on the bed what did you do?"

"I went over to him but he didn't wake up so I held his hand and asked him to wake up."

"And what happened then?"

"His hand glowed... It glowed orange and then he sat up but I got scared because he was a stranger and I run outside to my friends."

"Thank you for telling me, Jane. I'm very proud of you for being honest with me. Would you like to finish your picture while I go and talk with your mom and dad?"

She nods her head quickly returning to her picture while I get up and walk back over to my chair. I'm confused and shocked at what she's told me and I know that Liam will be feeling the same but I can't help but believe her because only the doc, nurse, Jack, Ashley, Liam and I know that Beta Matthew is alive as we decided to keep quiet for the moment while we figure everything out.

"Alpha Calvin we know Jane is just a child and stories can be made up but this isn't the first time that something like this has happened with her and that's why we came to you, we wouldn't have come here if we weren't sure about this."

"Sure about what?"

"We think something is going on with Jane. It started when she was around 2 years old. It was just little things at first that could be passed as coincidence but as time went on we started to notice more and more and then yesterday with Beta Matthew... We knew we needed to talk to you!"

"What kind of things are we talking about here?" Liam asks while I try to work through my thoughts.

"It was small things to start with like flowers that were dead suddenly being alive again and then the same would happen with small animals. It wasn't very often but often enough that we started picking up on it. Then around 6 months ago our cat Felix died, he was old and it was expected expect we got up the next day and he was alive again playing in the living room with Jane. When I asked her what happened she said she held his paw and it glowed orange then he woke back up but Alpha I had buried Felix out our garden."

"Holy fuck!" Both Liam and I grunt quietly. I think up until this point we both thought this was just their imaginations but now... Well, this can't be a coincidence surely?

"What exactly are you saying, Zack?" Liam barely gets the words out but it's more than what I can get out right now. "Alpha, Beta we think Jane brought Beta Matthew back from the dead. We think she has magical powers."
