I shit you not that every single one of us let out gasps, I may not know a lot about magic but I've heard enough to know that dark magic isn't good. "Rosemary, can you please tell me why your mother left?" She lets out a small laugh followed by a sort of sigh. "Of course Alpha. My dad always told me and my brother that our mom left because she was sick and went to seek help but the truth is that 3 years after my birth she suddenly took a huge interest in dark magic. My dad didn't know that it was going on but then he caught her one day and he give her a choice of black magic or her family and she choose black magic."

"Grandma, what did he catch her doing?" Kat's voice wavers and it's clear to see this has shaken her up but Zack quickly pulls her onto his lap and gently rubs her back and I know that this isn't the time for this but I can't help but watch this moment between them and feel that little pang at wanting my mate.

"Kat baby he caught her bringing back her best friend who had died a few days before, it worked and they left together and we never heard from either of them again!"

"And that's why your dad stopped you as soon as he saw what you were doing?"

"Yes, dear." Fuck!

"Wait, Jane. You said that she has brought back dead plants and also your cat and of course, we know that it's a possibility that she's brought Beta Matthew back." I speak slowly as I try to work out my words before I say them but there's no way to be subtle here we don't have the time for it. "She has Beta." Zack looks sad as he speaks and I may not be a dad yet but still I feel for him right now. "Kat my darling you need to bring Jane to me right away!" Rosemary's urgent voice bounces off the walls and quickly brings all of our attention back to her.

"Why gran?"

"Neither you nor Zack are witches but from what you have said I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Jane is and if that's the case she needs help with learning and training and she needs guidance from someone with experience. Kat as much as I hate to say it, it sounds like she's following the road that my mother did, that I started and she needs help to stop it before it goes too far!"

"What could happen?" Cal asks this time.

"She's starting young... If she keeps going like she is without any help or guidance she'll turn dark and it won't take long for it to be too late, for us to lose her completely to the dark and evil side of witchcraft. Also if she is a witch then that means that the gene has skipped a generation and sometimes that can make a witch even more powerful!"

FUCK!

"Alpha would you allow me to take time away from my warrior duties so that I can take my mate and our daughter to Rosemary, please? I know that Kat is more than capable of handling this without me but I want to be there for her and Jane. I've also never been away from either of them for more than 3 nights and if this takes longer than that which I think it will I'm not sure how I will cope!"

Zack sounds desperate and I honestly fucking feel for the guy right now. "Of course Zack, I wouldn't ask you to stay here with what's going on. You take your family and figure out everything that you need to and you call if you need anything ok? All I ask is that you keep me updated on little Jane. I'm her Alpha, yes but I'm also fond of little Jane and I'd like to know how she's getting on and of course, any news in regards to Beta Matthew would be much appreciated!"

"Of course Alpha!" We talk for a little while longer before saying goodbye to Rosemary just before Zack and Kat head back to their house to pack some essentials and get Jane ready. "Zack, do you have gas in your car?" As always Cal is one step ahead of everyone else. "I'm running low but I'll get some on the way."

"No need chuck me your keys and I'll go fill it up for you so you can just head straight to Rosemary." I've been pretty useless when it comes to all this witch talk so this is the least I can do.

"Are you sure Beta?"

"Of course!" I hold out my hand and catch his keys before heading for the door right behind them. He stops in front of me as he brings his wallet out of his pocket but I stop him before he even opens it. "I've got it covered." Before he can argue it with me Cal shouts out for me to use the pack card and both Zack and I instantly know that there's no point in even attempting to argue it with him so instead we all head off our separate ways.

While I head towards Zack's black SUV I try and work through everything in my head but honestly, I don't understand any of it and it's fucking frustrating. I need to look into magic and at least learn the basics because I have a lot of questions and I know that Kat would answer them if I asked her but she has enough on her plate right now and I need the answers soon before I drive myself insane.

Once I'm done I head back to the packhouse and park Zack's SUV outside his house for him to fill it up with their luggage while I head back to find Cal. Luckily for me, I don't have to look far as he's standing on the packhouse steps talking with one of our warrior's Toby. "Hey, Toby!"

"Hi, Beta Liam. I'll be off now I have guard duty in five minutes but it was lovely to see you both!" He gives us both a respectful nod before he heads off toward the forest. I don't know the guy greatly but the few times that I have spoken to him he has come across nice enough.

"Everything sorted?" Cal asks while looking as stressed as I feel the poor guy.

"Yes, Zack said they will be ready to leave in a few minutes... Fuck witches man this shit is crazy!"

"I know brother, I know."

"Do you know much about witches Cal?"

"Nope, about as much as you I'm guessing?"

"I have so many questions that I've given myself a headache!"

"Me too brother I mean since when can a witch gene skip a generation?"

"I've been thinking the same thing. I also want to know more about good and bad magic."

Cal goes to speak but stops himself when he sees Zack and his family making their way toward us. "Alpha Calvin, Beta Liam I'm going to visit grandma Rose!" Jane shouts out her voice full of excitement and despite us both knowing that this trip won't be all fun and games for her we still plaster on our best smiles and show her the excitement that she deserves. After a round of high fives between Jane, Cal, and I we wish them a safe trip and watch them as they pile in the SUV and start making their way off the parklands while we're both hoping and praying that Jane can get any help that she needs and that her parents can get the answers that they need.
