Gamma Jack

The moment I step outside of the packhouse I spot my mate standing next to Liam with an angry look on his face which I'm pretty sure has to do with Coby. It takes him just seconds to pin me with his eyes and his look quickly turns from angry to sad and maybe even worried and I know I need to nip that in the bud before we leave.

"Go and sort things out with your mate before we leave. You have a few minutes while I gather everyone up." I turn to look at Cal as he talks to me in his Alpha tone. He isn't asking me to do it, he's telling me, and I'm more than happy to do as I'm told.

I give him a nod and waste no time in heading down the steps toward my mate, he hasn't taken his eyes off me this whole time and it feels like it's taken forever for me to reach him.

As soon as I reach him I waste no time in taking his hand and pulling him into me. He wraps his arms around my waist and squeezes me tight. I lean down and place a gentle kiss on the top of his head as I feel his body tense up and he starts mumbling goddess only knows what.

I pull back enough to be able to cup his chin and lift his head up until his eyes meet mine. "Are you ok sweetheart?" He gives me a little nod but it's hesitant.

"Do you hate me?" His words shock the fuck out of me. Where the fuck did that come from?

"No, I could never hate you, baby." He lets out a small puff of air but I know he's still full of uncertainty and in all honestly, I'm still feeling some myself. "Do you want to leave me?" I hate to ask but I need to.

The shock on his face fills me with hope. "What? No! no, I don't. I never want to be without you, Jack." His words are sincere and exactly what I need right now.

"Then that's all that matters right now. We will talk about this but not yet, for now, I don't want you to worry about anything. We are fine. You are not going anywhere and after this is all over with I am going to show you exactly what you mean to me and we'll talk everything through ok?"

The smile that appears across his face is brighter than the sun and makes my heart skip a beat. He nods agreeing with me before placing a sweet swift kiss across my lips. "I love you, darling," I whisper against his lips.

"I love you too baby, oh and I look forward to you showing me exactly what I mean to you," He shoots me a wink and I can't hold back my laugh.

Before I can say any more Cal's voice bellows out across the packlands as he brings everyone's attention to him. "Jack come and join me up here, bring Ashley with you." His link is quick and to the point. When anything like this goes down the Beta and Gamma are always by their Alpha's side and in this case, that means Ashley too.

I take Ashley's hand again and gently pull him behind me, we come to stand by Cal's side at the same time as Liam and look out towards the front of the pack house and at the crowd of warriors ready and willing to fight, and as always seeing my men ready to fight for their family fills me with a sense of pride.

"Quiet down everyone. I don't want to wait any longer than necessary to leave here so I will only be saying things once and you'd better be listening!" Cal's voice once again bellows out across the packlands but has everyone's eyes and attention on his in seconds.

"My plan was to call a meeting shortly to update you on new events that have happened this morning in regard to our current situation involving Beta Hailey and warrior Coby. A growl leaves my mate's mouth at the mention of them and I don't blame him.

"Have they been found Alpha?" A voice bellows out from the back of the crowd but I can't see who it is.

"Unfortunately we haven't been able to trace Beta Hailey, however not too long ago warrior Ryder confirmed a sighting of Coby at an underground tunnel about 10 minutes away from Alpha Tito's packlands.

The roars and growls that suddenly echo across the packlands are deafening but great to hear. "What's the plan Alpha?" This time I see that Julie is the one talking.

"I have spoken with Alpha Tito and he is happy to have us on his lands so that we can be near the underground tunnel. I want you to split up into two groups. One group will ride out to Alpha Tito's packlands with Beta Liam leading and the rest will come straight to the tunnels with me, Gamma Jack, and Gamma Ashley. Once Beta Liam has everyone settled he will join us."

Cal faces us both with a nod that we quickly return, he knows that we would both want to be at the tunnel and we appreciate that he's allowing that to happen, although I doubt that there's anything that could keep either of us away from the tunnels right now even though it would still be almost impossible to defy Cal's orders as an Alpha or as a friend.

"As I said before we have confirmed sighting of Coby and warrior Ryder has the go-ahead to capture him if he tries to leave before we get there but as always with these kinds of things anything can happen and I want to be prepared which is the reason why I am bringing such a large group with me and why we are splitting up."

Bopping heads is all I can see as everyone silently agrees with Cal's plan. "We have our suspicions that this underground tunnel is being used as either a hiding place or possibly holding cells. Ryder has found evidence that children have been there but we don't know if that's from another time or now." No one is silent anymore as everyone voices their anger at the possibility of children being held here.

"Calm down, calm down! I know how you all feel, believe me, myself, Beta Liam, Gamma Ashley, and Gamma Jack feel the same which is why we want to try and hang around for as long as we can get away with to see if any children are being brought there and if there is then hopefully we can save them. We also hope that Beta Hailey makes an appearance."

"So why we are splitting up Alpha?" Another voice from the back calls out.

"We don't know how long we will be there and we may need to switch out so that everyone can get the rest that is needed. We also don't know how many others could turn up at the tunnels so I won't go without enough backup. I want all of our basis covered so everyone stay alert, have each other's backs, and keep your eyes open for warrior Coby and Beta Hailey."

Everyone screams out their approval before I let out an ear-piercing whistle and bring all of the warriors to silence. Part of my role as Gamma is to work with the warriors, to train them, to guide them, to look out for their safety, and to shut them up when they are driving me nuts.

Within 10 minutes Liam and I have divided up the warriors and everyone knows their roles and where they are going. We make quick work of filling up SUV after SUV before finally everyone is ready to go.

While we were splitting the group up Luna Lucy, Liam's mom Mary, and Nora brought out several cool boxes filled with sandwiches, cookies, chips, and energy drinks and I know that everyone was grateful.

I haven't forgotten about the business with Nora but for now, I need to keep it at the back of my mind and concentrate on Hailey and Coby. The moment the last of the cool boxes are loaded the last of the warriors pile in one of the middle SUVs and we head for the exit of the packlands while I pray for some help from the moon goddess.
