Beta Liam

"What was that all about?" Cal asks while still holding a look of confusion on his face. He's not mad that he's been made to leave the Alpha table, the guy worships the ground his mom walks on and will do anything she asks or tells him to do but it's clear he's lost as to why and honestly so am I.

I look across at Jack and I swear he looks ready to kill someone... anyone. "Jack, talk to me, brother?" I'm guessing he has some idea but Cal and I were locked in some conversation while we were heading back to the table and missed anything that could be heard and what makes it worse is I don't even remember what we were talking about it was that unimportant.

"Ash he... fuck!" He runs his hands through his hair tugging on it before running the same hand down his face. "I heard him say to Luna that sometimes he thought that it would have been better if he hadn't off met me that day." He looks fucking devastated

"There has to be more to it Jack because there's no way in hell is that true!" Cal quickly says the words that are on the tip of my tongue.

"Dad, what did you hear?" Micheal raises his left eyebrow with a look of disbelief on his face.

"What in the hell makes you think that I know anything? Son, I learned a long time ago to read your mother and the look that she gives me at that table was the look that she gives me when I'm to butt out and plug my ears and that's exactly what I did."

His tone is so animated that it has everyone lightly laughing, for a moment even Jack lets out a little chuckle, that is until his reality quickly sets back in, and he's back to looking completely fucking heartbroken.

"What if he regrets meeting me?"

"Impossible!" My words are firm because I don't doubt that those two aren't meant to be for a second. "You need to speak to him, Jack."

"I know what I heard Liam." He's starting to get pissy and a pissy Jack never ends well for anyone.

"Luna, I'm sorry to interrupt you but I'm worried about Jack. He heard part of what Ashley said and now he's freaking out. I think he needs to speak to Ashley."

"Of course, we are just finishing up here anyway. Liam, maybe you can get Ashley out of here for a little while so that I can talk to Jack before he speaks with Ashley?"

"Of course Luna." As much as I think he should speak to Ashley right away I know that our Luna will help to settle things a lot quicker than they will on their own and right now we need both of them to have their heads in the game with all the shit that we have coming our way.

"I haven't known Ashley that long, spoken to him less than anyone I believe but even I know that he loves you with everything he has Jack." I catch my dad's words to Jack but I'm not sure what else I have missed.

I take my last bite of breakfast and finish my coffee before standing up. "Gamma Ashley, would you mind helping me gas up all of the cars? A few of them are running low and we could need them soon." He gives me a suspicious look but soon nods before meeting Jack's eye and looking a little sad.

Ashley steps up to me "He hates me doesn't he?" His heartbroken look hurts me to see just as much as Jack's does and in all honestly, I may not know what the fuck is going on but I do know that I don't like it one bit. I love these two together and the idea of them both being hurt kills me.

We both turn and head for the door while Luna calls out to Jack to go and sit with her. I hope Luna works her magic with that one and fast.

Gamma Jack

Hearing my mate tell our Luna that maybe it would have been better if he hadn't off met me fucking tore me apart, I wanted to tear the whole dining hall apart and rip out my own heart. But even with my Gamma strength I still couldn't ignore my Luna's orders and quickly found myself sitting at a table with Cal, Liam, Joesph, and Ashley's dad.

I tried to explain what happened but I could barely get my words out the same as I could barely hear them while they tried to help calm me down. The anger that was running through my body was making my pulse pound in my ear rendering me pretty much deaf at the time.

As much as one part of me wanted to avoid the subject with my mate through fear of what he would say the other part of me just wanted to finish my food and speak to my mate to get things cleared up.

I hate feeling like this especially when I'm not even sure of the full story. What if he has decided he doesn't want me anymore? What if everything that has happened has made him decide he wants a different life? I know he has an uncle at another pack a few hours away from here, will he want to take Kelly and go live there?

"Gamma Jack, would you mind keeping me company for a little while?" Luna Lucy's voice drags me out of my pity party just in time for me to see my mate leaving the dining hall with Liam. What the fuck did I miss?

I dont have time to question anything as they quickly leave the hall while Luna Lucy keeps her eyes on me making it clear I need to hurry my ass up.

I quickly head for the Alpha table and feel a smile tag at my lips when Luna Lucy graces me with her own beautiful smile. I swear between her golden blonde hair, beautiful face, and soft voice she could pass for a goddam angel.

"Take a seat sweetheart." She pats the chair next to her and I waste no time doing as she asks. "I wanted to talk to you before you speak with your mate." While her voice is soft it still holds that Luna tone that grips me every time

"Jack, what did you hear before when you came to the table while I was talking with Ashley?"

"That sometimes he wondered if it would have been better if he hadn't off met me that day."

"Ok is that all?"

"Yes." She gives me a sympathetic look before taking a deep breath.

"So I'm guessing that you didn't hear him say that he feels guilty that he brought all of the stuff that has been happening to your door? Or that he couldn't imagine his life without you but he loves you so much that he would walk away if it meant that you wouldn't have to deal with this mess of his and if it meant that this pack could be free of his mess, that It would kill him to do it but he would do it for you?".

"No... I didn't," I just about get my words out through the shock that I'm feeling. While I was sitting there feeling sorry for myself wondering if my mate even wanted me he was over here pretty much wondering the same thing and worse he was questioning his place in this pack and I ain't fucking having it!

"I need to talk to him now. His place is here with us, with me and there's nothing in this world that could make me not want him,"

Luna smiles wide while nodding her head toward me. "I know that so does everyone around you but he's struggling right now and only you can help with that. I've spoken to him, yes but you speaking to him will be completely different even if we say the exact same words.

She's right and I couldn't agree more but just as I'm about to say my goodbyes to her to go and find my mate Cal appears by my side with a frantic look in his eyes. Oh FFS, what is it now?

"What's wrong Cal?

He leans in close to me keeping his voice down "Ryder just phoned me, they have sight of Coby, he's just gone inside the tunnel with two other men but they can't identify them yet."

"Fuck they actually have sight of him?"

"Yes, and we need to get to him now."

"Dam right! Where's Liam and Ashley?"

"I've just linked Liam and told him to have them meet us out the front right now. You ready?"

"Fucking right I am!"

"Good, well then let's go and end this bastard!"

"Language boys!" Despite the situation, we both laugh at Luna Lucy's scalding over our choice of words. We both apologize and place a kiss on each side of her cheeks before we say our goodbyes and Cal calls out having all the warriors follow us outside.
