This morning ended up being an absolute shit show, that prick of an Alpha lied through his stinking teeth to get us to help him and god knows how many other packs he told that lie to. I don't understand why he did it and I don't understand why he had a problem with his Beta's son being gay. Fuck I couldn't give a fuck what your sexual preference is, it doesn't define you and it certainly doesn't stop you from being a good person.

It took all my strength not to end his worthless life right there and then but fuck the fact that Ashley ended up being Jack's mate was the best thing I could have hoped for. He's welcome here and my Gamma Jack is one of the best men that I know and I already know that he's going to give Ashley the best life possible.

I just wish that we could have got there sooner so that we could have saved Beta Matthew. I had only met him a handful of times but I always respected him as a Beta and finding out that he died because he stuck by his son's side only heightens my respect for him.It also makes his death feel even more painful and knowing that us arriving just a few minutes earlier could have saved his life makes me angry, so fucking angry!

That prick of an Alpha thinks he's got off easy by me letting him go but he couldn't be more wrong, the only reason I didn't kill him there and then was because I wanted him to call off all the packs he had after Ashley and I wanted to get Ashley and his dad away from them and back under my roof where I could look after them but this isn't the end of this, he will pay for what he's done.

Jack brought Ashley here to officially meet me and Liam earlier and soon both my parents and Liam's parents turned up. I must say I was amazed at how quickly Ashley went from shy to happy and talking with everyone but it was lovely to see and it's easy to see how well he will fit in with everyone here.

We've been back at the packhouse for a couple of hours but I've not called a meeting to discuss our next move yet as after Jack and Ashley left here I wanted to allow Jack some time to look after Ashley and help him settle in and by the time everyone left my office Liam was pretty much falling asleep standing up so I sent him to bed for a nap.

To be honest, I wish I could do the same, running on 2 hours of sleep is hard enough without the morning that we've had but I know if I go and lay down I won't get any sleep, there's too much on my mind and too much anger simmering on the surface for me to shut my brain down enough to nap so instead I'm sat in my office trying to distract myself with paperwork until its time to call a meeting. "Liam, Cal you there guys?" A link from Jack pulls me from my thoughts and I'm honestly fucking grateful. "I'm here." I quickly link back just seconds before Liam's gruff voice joins us. "I'm here, what's wrong brother?"

"Can you both meet me at the docs office straight away?" His voice sounds urgent and worried and he's got me instantly on edge. "What's going on Jack?" I feel the Alpha in me come out but I can't stop it. "Doc linked me just a few moments ago and he told me that Beta Matthew is alive, that he's sitting up and talking to him!"

"You did not just say what I think you did!" Liam shouts out shock laced in every word and I'm right there with him "I don't understand!"

"That's exactly how we feel, we're heading to docs now to see what the fucks going on!" Jack quickly replies and neither Liam nor I waste any time in letting him know that we're on our way and close the link.

What the fuck is going on today?

I am fucked! between 2 hours of sleep and a fucking mind-blowing morning I'm honestly ready for bed and I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't ready to rip someone a new asshole when I was woken from my nap but the moment I heard their words leave Jacks mouth I quickly went from concentrating on keeping my eyes open to concentrating on keeping my jaw off the floor.

How the fuck is Ashley's dad alive? We all saw him on the floor, Ashley sat next to him and he certainly didn't move a muscle the whole time that he was carried back here. I'm fucking stumped but nonetheless, I make quick work of getting dressed and meet Cal on my floor so that we can head over to the hospital together.

It only takes us a few minutes to reach the pack hospital and we quickly see Jack and Ashley standing outside the room where Beta Matthew is being kept. We quickly reach them both but it doesn't take long to figure out that Ashley is completely lost in his own head as he doesn't even notice that we are here. Jack gives us a quick nod before he turns his attention back to Ashley as he tries to help bring him back to the present. He's being so gentle and caring with his mate and I can't help but feel proud of him. I've never doubted that he would be a great mate when the time came but no one expects to find their mate in this kind of situation and from what I've seen and heard so far Jack is doing an amazing job of handling it and looking after Ashley.

I've only got to speak with Ashley for a little bit of time while we were in the office but I already know that we are going to get on great and in the small amount of time that I've spent with him I could see an underlining personality, one that I know I'm going to like. Ashley seems to find himself again as he starts looking around his surroundings while Cal and I decide to give them a moment and we head inside the room to see if we can make a start on figuring out what's going on. I know Jack was told that Beta Matthew is alive but I'm still struggling to believe it.

That is until we step inside the room and see him sitting up on the hospital bed, he looks confused and pale but he's there breathing and talking and I'm fucking floored! I look at Cal but his face is mirroring how I feel and we both struggle to say a word.

"Beta Matthew, how are you alive? I don't understand!" Thankfully for me, Cal has somewhat found his voice because I'll be fucked if I can form any words right now never mind a full sentence. Before Beta Matthew can say a word the creaking of the door has our attention turning to Jack and Ashley as they step inside the room hand in hand.

Ashley is looking down at the ground while taking slow steps and as if on instinct both Cal and I take a sideward step in the opposite direction making a gap that will allow Ashley to see his dad while we both keep our attention on the wall in front of us. This should be a somewhat private moment for Ashley and he doesn't need our input, not yet anyway.

"Hello, son." Beta Matthews's voice sounds horse and worn out as he speaks to Ashley but I don't have much time to think about it as the next words out of Jack's mouth has both me and Cal turning to face them and running to their side. "Ashley!" Jack calls out his mate's name as he starts falling towards the floor and we soon realize that he's passed out, properly from the shock of seeing his dad sitting here when he thought he was dead, to be honest, I'm not even surprised because I felt close to passing out when I saw him myself.

Jack quickly scoops him up and doc pulls a curtain in the corner back to reveal an empty bed. "Lay him here Gamma Jack and I'll check him over but I'm pretty sure he has passed out from shock." Jack does what the doc says and after a quick check, he confirms that Ashley has indeed passed out and no one in this room looks surprised. Jack sits down on the bed next to Ashley while holding onto one of his hands and gently rubbing his knuckles while I and Cal put our attention back on Beta Matthew.

"I don't understand this, we saw you on the ground and you weren't moving nor were you breathing when we had you carried back here"

Cal speaks low his voice laced with the confusion that I know we are all feeling. "Doc I assume you performed an examine when Beta Matthew was brought in?" "Of course Alpha, I cleaned him up, checked him over, and changed his clothes and he wasn't breathing during any of that time but..."

"But what?"

"I wanted to speak with you at some point today because... Well, to be honest, while I was examining Beta Matthew I couldn't figure out what had caused his death. The beating he received was extreme but in my personal experience it wasn't enough to kill him, he also didn't appear to have any injuries caused by any silver."

"What are you saying doc?" Fuck am I confused right now.

"I'm saying that nothing adds up, there was no reason for his death the same as there is no reason why he's now alive but I'd bet my lost dollar that there's something more going on here that we are all unaware of."

"Dad?" Our attention is taken away by the sound of Ashley's voice as Jack helps him slowly sit up on the bed, he looks confused, sad, happy, and just completely fucked all at the same time and I can understand that. That poor guy has really been through it today, hell he's been through it for a while from what I've heard but today is bound to hit him more than any other day.

He slowly gets off the bed with Jack helping him and makes his way over towards us, I take a closer look at him and can see his entire body is shaking but Jack has got a firm hold on him. He reaches his dad and suddenly bursts into tears, sobs wreck his body and he literally dives into his dad's arms, and it's as heartbreaking to see as it is heartwarming.
