He tries to sound calm and confident but he sounds more like a scared child just like he is. “I'm from Alpha Ashton's pack.” Bollocks!

Ryder takes a step towards him but no one else moves a muscle, Ryder won't hurt him. The boy... Jake moves back a step but he's not quick enough to escape Ryder and soon finds himself in Ryder's grip and being pulled toward us.

“Are you going to kill me?” His voice is small as Ryder brings him to stand just a foot or two in front of us.

Cal looks pissed off by his question but ignores it, I can't even imagine a reason for us to kill a child ever... “Why are you here? Are you spying for Alpha Ashton?” Cal doesn't waste time asking him what we need to know. We need to be smart and quick here and unfortunately, we don't have the time to just hang around waiting until this boy feels relaxed enough to talk to us plus this could well be a trap so we don't want to be distracted for too long either.

“No, I'm not spying for anyone!” His tone has quickly changed to annoyed which is interesting. “My dad is a warrior for Alpha Ashton and I hate them both! I need to get my mom and little sister away from my dad before... Before he kills my mom or starts hurting my sister.” He slides his hood down and the hurt that has quickly found its way to his voice is now matched by the look in his eyes.

Cal and I share a look and I know that he believes what this kid is saying but still I'm unsure of what he wants here. “ How old are you?” Now that he's standing closer to us I wonder if he is even a teenager after all. “I'm 12, I'll be 13 next week and will be required to start warrior training... I can't,” He doesn't finish his sentence as his emotions take a hold of him.

“What do you want from us kid? No offense but how do we know that what you are saying is even true?” Cal is thinking like an Alpha which I am grateful for because right now I've lost all of my Gamma abilities and all I can think about is taking this boy home with us and keeping him safe.

“If you help me... when you see my mom, you will know that it's true. Last night... he... You will see for yourself.” There's no doubt in my mind that this boy is telling the truth, the pain in his eyes is too raw for it to be faked. “I want you to help get my mom and sister away from my dad, take them in, keep them safe. I'll stay with my dad if there's not enough room for me, I'll be ok but them...”

“Alpha there are more wolves coming through the woods?” Liam's voice has our attention moving from the boy... Jake to him. He and Ashley have been keeping watch while Cal, Ryder, and I have been talking to Jake, it's only been a few minutes but we can't afford to have all eyes of the tunnel not even for a second.

“Can you see who it is?” Cal tenses up alongside me for a brief moment when we hear noises close by but a puff of relief leaves us both just as quickly as we come face to face with our warriors as they creep towards us and fuck is it a relief!

They keep coming and it doesn't take long for us to realize that there are a lot more men here than the group that we sent to Alpha Tito’s.

Relief floods me as Alpha Tito's face suddenly appears from behind our men. “Alpha Calvin, Beta Liam, Gamma’s Jack and Ashley.” He nods his head as he calls out our names in a whisper so that he isn’t heard but still his tone holds respect.

“Alpha Tito, thank you for coming.” Cal shows the same respect back to him but also doesn’t hide his gratitude at Alpha Tito and his men’s willingness to come and help us.

“When Beta Liam called and told me what was happening I didn't see a reason not to come Alpha Calvin. This kind of thing is not ok with me nor is it ok with any of my pack members!” He growls out the words with a force as strong as Cal’s

“That's why I came to you.”

“Who is this?” Alpha Tito points to Jake while keeping his sight on Cal, in fact, I haven't seen him take his sight of Cal since we arrived so I'm not even sure how he's managed to notice Jake or how has picked up on the fact that Jake is not one of us. “I don't see a reason as to why Ryder would be holding one of your own members like that, not unless he's done something wrong.” Alpha Tito says answering my unspoken question.

“This is Jake Summers and he's a member of Alpha Ashton's pack. He's come to us to ask for our help.” Cal goes on to tell Alpha Tito what Jake has said so far and the look of instant concern across his face just shows how much of a good man he is. I sometimes wonder if he and Cal are related because of how alike they both are.

“So will you help me? Please I'm begging you please take my mum and sister back with you. I'll stay with them and find another way out for me bu-”

“I'm sorry but I can't allow that.” Jake looks like he's ready to throw up but I've seen that look on Cal’s face before and I know that he hasn't finished with Jake yet.

“Alpha Calvin plea-”

Cal holds up his hand to stop Jake from talking. “I will help your mom and sister but I'm taking you too. If what you say is true then I'm not willing to send you back with your dad or the pack. If he's as bad as you say then I wouldn't like to think about what he will do to you if he finds out that you helped them.”

“The same thought had crossed my mind Alpha but how do we help them?” Ryder still has hold of Jake's arm but his grip isn't as tight as before.

“First we need to deal with this.” He points towards the tunnel with a grim look on his face. “So Jake that means you need to stay hidden somewhere where no one from that pack will be able to see you, once we've dealt with this issue we will work on getting your mom and sister out of there ok?”

“Oh, of course, Alpha Calvin.” I have to bite back a laugh at his eager nod of agreeance when it reminds me of one of those plastic nodding dogs that you can buy.

“Alpha you may wanna come to see this." My mate's voice stops us from saying any more as Cal and I both head back to his side.

"Fucking fuckity fuck!" I bite back a laugh at Cal’s colorful language but my laugh soon turns into a snarl that I let out as I see the scene that's in front of us.

The men that are surrounding the tunnel are now shifting into their wolfs while even more men are coming out of the forest. Shit!

The tunnel door squeaks as Coby and Alpha Ashton come out laughing and joking with each other causing Cal to growl.

"Are you fucking kidding me? They are out here having the time of their lives while those poor children are in there scared out of their minds!" This time his growl isn't so quiet and the next words that we hear only confirm that.
