"Fuck!" Echos around the room as everyone says the word at the same time.

"I didn't know you had a mate... I... Huh..." I'm at a loss for words and yet I find what he says easy to believe because that is exactly something that my bitch of a mother would do. "Who was your mate?"

"I found him after you left Ash. He was called Kyle and he was a member of the north storm pack, I met him after Alpha Roland managed to convince his Alpha to assist in the search for you and your dad, he was a warrior for them and absolutely perfect." His eyes fill with tears as he talks and once he stops they quickly fall down his cheek.

"Wait, you said was?" Jack's words are gentle as everyone else suddenly has the same realization.

"He's dead, she killed him!" His voice starts rising and the look on his face is absolutely heartbreaking. "I found out after Kelly was taken in the forest that she has already killed him, in fact, she had killed him the same day as she took him away from me but she was pretending that she still had him to blackmail me."

"Fuck me is there no end to what that bitch will do?" Cal growls out. "I'm sorry to hear about your mate Coby, I haven't met mine yet but still I can't imagine what you went through losing him."

"Thank you Alpha I appreciate your words, it's the worst pain in the world, and I'm not sure how long I'm going to be able to live without him." I suck in a breath at his words and feel Jack tighten his hold on me.

"Wait wouldn't you have felt his death?" Kat's question is a good one and I want to know the answer.

"We hadn't mated or marked each other so I would have felt it but not as strongly and at that time I was caught up in many fights and suffered a lot of pain so it's hard for me to know when it happened, believe me, I have tried to remember."

"So if you found out that she had in fact already killed your mate why did you remain with her plan?"

"I didn't like her plan Ash, I never did but of course, I had to be a part of it to save my mate. After I found out that he had died I felt like ending my own life, I didn't want to live without him, and I still dont now but then I realized that before I end my own life I

could help save those poor children and then at least if I died saving them something good would have come of me leaving this place."

The more he talks the more I feel sadness towards him rather than anger, dont get me wrong I'm still angry at him but fuck has he suffered. When I thought I was losing Jack back at the attack I felt like I couldn't breathe but to actually lose him... Fuck it don't bear thinking about it.

"So that's why you stuck with the plan and stayed with the children when they were taken to the tunnel?"

"Yes Hailey had already told me her plan and there was no way that I was going to just walk away from them. I knew that you would be hunting me down so I decided to mix the two together and have you find me when I had the children with me."

"That's a very courageous thing to do coby." Cal shows him the respect that he deserves for what he has done with the children while nods are seen across the room.

"It was an incredible thing that you did but there's something that I dont get. If Hailey

had already killed your mate then why did she keep you around I mean she had you around by blackmailing you but once you knew that your mate was dead there was no reason for you to even want to stick around, surely she would have found that strange?" Liam's brought up something that I hadn't even thought of yet.

"I basically put on a performance of blaming your pack for his death, I told her that if I hadn't known Ashley then I wouldn't have been involved in any of this and that my mate would have still been alive."

He takes a deep breath looking at me with a completely broken look on his face. "Of course, she was so caught up in her own plan that she didn't take a second to consider the fact that if everything hadn't happened with Ashley then I wouldn't have actually got to meet my mate, well not anytime soon anyway."

"So you told her that you wanted revenge on us and would help her but really you were planning on turning against her and getting the children to safety?" Luna Lucy's voice breaks through the room shocking me for a moment, she's been so quiet that I forgot that she was even here.

"Yes, Luna Lucy. I was too late to save Beta Matthew and I knew that Kelly was safe but I couldn't walk away when I knew what they were planning."

"What were they planning sweetheart?"

"They were selling the girls through the black market. Some of them were going to be put in sex houses and others on the streets for pimps, two of them had already been bought by much older men for marriage." He takes a deep breath while swallowing hard. "I couldn't stand back and watch that happen but I also couldn't come to any of you with the information just in case anyone from her side was watching me."

"Coby, What does she have planned for Kelly?" I'm shaking as I wait for his answer but I have to know.

"Ash... Fuck Ash, Kelly was... is one of the girls that has been sold for marriage."

"Jesus fucking christ!"

I'm fucking furious! "Who the mother fucking fuck does that twat of a woman think she is!" I bellow out unable to hold back my anger anymore. Ashley is sitting on my lap shaking with his own anger his hands holding onto the sides of the chair so hard that I'm surprised that it hasn't broken again.

"If she thinks she is selling that little girl off to some old twat bag asshole then she's more cooked in the head than I thought!" Ashley jumps off my lap pacing the room as he speaks while I watch everyone in the room make their anger very well known including Coby.

I get up out of my seat and walk up to him stopping him in his tracks, his body may be shaking with anger but the tears in his eyes are unmissable and heartbreaking to see. "She won't get her hands on her baby, not now, not ever!" My words are firm and I mean every single one of them.

"She has to go with Joey and Jackie ASAP Jack we have to keep her safe." I nod agreeing with him but before I can say another word Joey speaks up. "We will leave as soon as the problem with Edwina has been solved and we will get back here for her asap, hopefully, sooner than the 2 days that we planned." Jackie nods agreeing with him but the look that Ashley gives me already tells me what's going to happen.

"Joey, Jackie, you said before that you were willing to take Kelly with you when you left here, are you still willing to do that? I dont want to let her go yet but I need her safe."

Joey and Jackie share a quick look before he nods and happily agrees which makes me feel both sad and relieved at the same time. "I'm sorry to interrupt but where is Kelly going?"

"We dont know and we won't. Ashley's uncle and aunt are taking her to a pack that we don't know of and they are going to raise her as their own." He's been pretty honest with us so far and seems generally concerned about the children so I give him some of the truth but not all of it and thankfully no one in the room questions the bit that I've made up.

"That's got to be hard for you Ash but for what it's worth I think it's the right thing to do. Hailey is seriously unhinged and I worry about what her next move will be."

"Do you know anything about her future plans or where she could be hiding?" Cal asks not missing the opportunity. "I dont I'm sorry. I wish I knew because I would tell you and help you get her." I believe he's telling the truth as much as it pisses me

off.

"And do you know anything about Julie the witch that was with her?"

Coby looks a little confused by the name but I can see that he's trying to think about it. "Oh wait do you mean Julie Cuttler? She was standing next to her at the attack?"

"Yes, that's the one!" Ashley shouts out.

"Yes, she's Hailey's sister. May I ask why you want to know about her?"

"You have got to be kidding me?" Ashley growls out this time. "She was a member of this pack and looked after Kelly for us on a regular basis. In fact, she was supposed to be minding Kelly on the night of the attack but then she turned up there. Thankfully it turned out that Luna Lucy had a bad feeling and took over looking after Kelly or I'd dread to think about what would have happened."

"Fuck!" Coby growls out. "I had no idea, I never saw her here so I never connected the dots. I'm sorry Ash!" My mate gives him a nod but I know that he doesn't blame anyone for that, none of us saw what or who Julie was, we just got lucky that she didn't get her hands on her in time I guess.

The fact that Hailey has a sister that no one knew about doesn't come as a surprise either not after the lie about her having another daughter no one knew about.

"Clearly her cover was blown the night of the attack and that's why we haven't seen her since," Cal says while we all nod agreeing. "Alpha Calvin, what happened to the children from the tunnel?" Coby asks pulling my attention back to him.

"They were brought back here and the elders were informed. Some of the children have been returned to their families but unfortunately, we haven't been able to trace all their families yet but until we do we are working with the elders to keep them safe."

"Oh, thank goddess for that. Are they all ok? I tried my best to keep them safe but I'm not sure how long they had them before I got to them."

"They were all checked out at our pack hospital and every single one was given a clean bill of health and I believe that that's partly because of you Coby." Coby's smile is genuine and makes hating him all the harder right now.

"It was worth it then, this is worth it." He smiles as he speaks but it's a sad smile and I know this has to be hard for Ashley with Coby being an old friend.
