LAMIA

Kellen met me by the dining room entrance. I rounded the corner to find him propped up against the wall, legs and arms crossed and his head cast down. I felt his nerves pour out of him in waves.

“Hey,” I called out to him as I approached. I took a deep breath as I stood before him, summoning the courage I needed at that moment.

He lifted his head, his ocean blue eyes meeting mine “Hey, Lamia –“ he began. I lifted my hand and pressed my index finger to his lips. He was nervous, ambivalence clearly reflected in his eyes.

I leant in and pressed my lips to his, whispering “shh”. My tongue traced his bottom lip asking for entrance and he gave it to me. His moist and warm tongue swept across mine in a caressing movement. I leant my body onto his and pressed him against the wall, his arms circling my waist, bringing us impossibly close.

Yes, I wanted to explore this side of a connection between us.

Before the kiss could progress and we would get lost with each other, I pulled back and took his hands in mine. He stood and pulled me to him in an effort to bring us together again and I resisted.

“Kellen” I sighed and finally looked up to meet his gaze again, his ocean blues were deep and lustful. “I don’t know what’s changed between us….” I paused trying to find the right words. “….but it feels right.”

He moved to capture my lips again, pulling his hands from mine and now cupping my face firmly. I placed my hands on his chest to hold him back. He was breathing harder and I knew he was fighting his wolf for dominance as his eyes were swirling between a glowing deep blue and black.

“I want us to take it slow, let’s just see what happens and not rush.” He didn’t respond to me, just stared at me, his gaze roaming my face like he was looking for something. I could feel the power of his aura and wolf beaming from him like a beacon in the dark.

“Kel!” I called, trying to get him to hear me. “Kel? Can you do that? Can we not rush?” He furrowed his brow at me, his eyes returning to that ocean blue, and a small smile started to creep across his face until it reached his eyes.

Now beaming at me like a kid in a candy store, he finally spoke. “Yes! Yes, of course, whatever you want, let’s go slow.” A sigh of relief left my mouth.

“Goddess Lamia, I thought you were going reject me before we even found out if we were mates or not.” He tensed with his words and as I shook my head I felt his body relax and calmness sweep over him again. “I don’t know what’s different, but I just want us to have a chance and I can’t wait till our birthday. I feel the pull Lam’s, I feel it.” With a sharp intake of breath he leant his head against mine.

“I… I feel the same but that’s not why I asked you to meet down here.” I said with conviction, remembering my plan and mission.

It’s true, every time we were near each other, I wanted to be closer to him, touching him. It wasn’t uncommon for us to hold hands, or him have his arm wrapped around me, but instead of the sisterly love I felt for him or the strange “twin” bond we shared, this was stronger.

I have always been possessive of Kellen. Now though, when we touched, I felt a warm fire building up in body. And when he kissed me earlier, that fire burned to have him near me, to touch me, to consume me. It was nothing like any other guy I had kissed and if I felt something for Mike, it was not anything near what I was starting to and did feel for Kellen.

“So…. What are we doing here and why are we going to see Wilson?” Confusion now, flitting in his eyes and his lips pressing together tightly.

“Alright, so, it is our best friend’s birthday on Sunday. Oh and by the way, let’s keep this," I pointed my finger between him and I “on the down low for now.” He nodded, agreeing with me, knowing that neither of us wanted to hurt Mike, so I carried on.

Not wanting to get distracted from the reason, I called him down here. “I need to use your royal power on Wilson.” He didn’t like this.

Kellen didn’t like to misuse his royal influence unless it was absolutely necessary. Most of the time he had to use it to get me out of trouble, but this time it was so we could throw our best friend a kickass birthday party.

Furrowing his brows again and tilting his head, looking at me with the ‘what did you do now’ face.

“Lamia?” He said, drawing out my name.

I couldn’t help the shit-eating grin that started to plaster my face. “Oh hush, I want you to help me convince Wilson to throw a party here on the Academy grounds and use your influence to get him to agree to let us have alcohol.” I beamed, it was so simple.

“Seriously? You seriously think that’s going to happen, Wilson is just going to say ‘sure kids! Why don’t you give me your list and I will personally pick it up for you’?”

“Well, that’s why you are coming with me; we can convince him together. I’m sure you have an ace up your sleeve to help him agree.” I tilted my head and batted my eye lashes, pouting a little. He could never resist the pout. I had used my innocent little pout on him from day one and to this day he always caved.

And, of course, Kellen caved. He nodded his head and we walked hand in hand down the hallways to Wilson’s office.

KELLEN

I had no idea how Lamia managed to convince Wilson to let us hold a party for Mike, but somehow the cunning she-wolf managed to get him to say yes. When she brought up the question of alcohol, Wilson had given us a hard NO! That’s where I came in; reminding him that he owed us one after what had happened to Lamia in the Academy hospital and them accidently overdosing on her.

“You know, we have never told our parents about that mistake and I know full well you haven’t disclosed it. You know… almost killing her” I had said to him a few days ago, watching him shift uneasily in his chair. I was basically blackmailing him, but would rather do that than use my royal command.

Eventually, he caved; the guilt of what happened to Lamia forever seared into his memories. We knew it was an accident, one that almost cost her her life. Though, I had instructed Wilson and the staff that this would not get back to her Father or mine if they valued their lives, so we down played it, knowing all hell would break loose if they found out the extremity of her poisoning.

Now it was my job to keep Mike occupied for the day while Lamia and Kira set up and decorated for Mike’s surprise party tonight. Wilson and a few staff members would organize the beverages, with the condition that they got to chaperone... and the party ended by 12.30.

We eagerly agreed. The kitchen staff were baking a cake and also preparing a buffet for everyone, as the whole school would be allowed to attend if they wanted to.

It was later in the afternoon and currently, myself, Mike, Travis, Sam and Greg were hanging out in our suite playing Injustice on the Play station. Mike was completely oblivious to the fact Lamia was right now organizing a surprise party for him and all we had to do was keep him out of the lower level common room and back gardens of the school. I wasn't even sure what she had planned.

“Where’s Lamia at?” he asked, looking around, like he expected her to pop her head out and announce she had been here the whole time. He looked at Travis, frowning “Where’s Kira at? What are those girls up to?”

“Lamia said she wanted to pack early, in case the Royal guard was here tomorrow.” I couldn’t look at him when I lied because he would know. He could read me just as easily as Lamia could and just as easily as I could read him. The three of us could never get away with lying to each other. It was more of a hindrance than anything. Especially when it came to surprises, more times than I can recall, we would always find each other out.

He grunted and turned back to the game.

“Screw the girls, they are no good at video games anyway” Mike glared at Greg’s comment before Travis and I could start laughing.

“Dude, Lamia can kick anyone’s ass, whether it be at video games or on the training field.” Mike smirked at him, letting out a small chuckle while shaking his head.

“What’s her story anyway?” Greg asked. “Don’t get me wrong, the chick is hot as fuck! But Goddess, she is freakishly strong, it’s quite intimidating, she would make an excellent Luna.” He shrugged his shoulders and passed the controller to his Beta Sam, stood up and grabbed a beer.

“Not to be disrespectful, Kellen, but I would rather duel you than get into a fight with her. Unless, of course, it was in between the sheets…” He chuckled again and a low growl resonated from my chest.

I looked at Mike, this dude was just not going to shut up, and I knew Mike could see my anger starting to surface. Clearing his throat, and speaking before, I lost it and tore Greg to shreds.

“Greg, you would be wise not to make remarks about how hot she is in front of his highness. You are treading on thin Ice when it comes to her well being.” A cold and stoic expression on Mike's face as he explained calmly yet indirectly that Greg was stepping over a line right now. I had no idea if Mike knew Lamia and I had kissed, or that our feelings were growing and changing for each other. I did know that he understood I had a claim on her right now.

“Hey, I didn’t mean any harm!” He said, throwing his hands in the air, and patting me on the back “I didn’t know you guys had a thing?” He laughed again. His dark eyebrows met in the middle a questioning look in his light brown orbs.

“We don’t.” I huffed and shrugged his arm off my shoulder, moving back to the kitchenette.

Greg seriously wasn’t going to drop the subject of Lamia though and followed me over, leaning his elbows against the counter. “I’m seriously intrigued though, what is her story? Is she royal? Because she certainly has the commanding presence and the strength of one.”

I shook my head, a small smirk gracing my face as I looked up at him. “She is not royal.” Not yet, I thought, but kept that to myself. “Besides, what’s your fascination with her?” Shifting my weight and keeping my calm, I asked.

“I’m really not sure. I have just never met anyone or anything like her.” Greg took another swig of his beer, as did I.

“Her parents are second born from Alphas, other than that she has no ties to the Royal blood line, aside from her and I sharing a birthday and a mark, there is nothing to explain her gifts.” I didn’t want to say too much, but I had said enough.

“Mark? What fucking mark?” Mike was now standing with his arms crossed, eyes furrowed and swirling with something I didn’t recognize. Did he not know about her mark?

“Seriously Mike? You have never seen or known about her mark?” I questioned, wondering how he couldn’t possibly know. Had he never seen it all those times he was checking her out in a bikini.

“What fucking mark, Kellen?” He hunched his shoulders, his lips scowling, forehead creasing.

I moved in front of him, lifted my shirt and pulled the front of my jeans down to reveal my birthmark. Mike looked confused, he shook his head slightly and raised his palms as in ‘AND?’

“….And she has the same birthmark, just on the opposite hip! How did you not know this?” It was my turn to be confused and look at him like he was nuts.

“Honestly, I have never seen it, or noticed it, or even heard you guys speak of it!”

“What does the mark mean?” Travis cleared his throat and asked.

“It’s the mark of a King or Queen, the next in line to the throne.” I glanced at Mike as he spoke, I watched him gulp as he said the last line. His shoulders dropped and his head hung. “You should have told me before. It all makes sense now.” He shuffled his feet then found his composure. Lifting his head, he looked at each one of the guys except me. “Well, unless you are a high-ranking Alpha or Royalty, everyone is off limits to Lamia.”

The guys all stood there, their mouths hanging open for a few seconds until all eyes found me. It was Travis who spoke first. “So does that mean you guys are destined mates?”

I shrugged my shoulders at his question, it wasn’t one I haven’t been asked plenty of times, or that I hadn’t been told we were more than likely destined mates by our parents. So I let it roll off me.

“Honestly, I have no idea. We will only know when we both turn eighteen. And that’s enough of that subject.” I used my Royal Alpha tone with the last sentence letting the power roll off me, so as to shut everyone up about it. I didn’t want them knowing about the history of our wolves, opening the floor up to more questions. I felt like that was something that needed to be kept in the family. It wasn’t their business.

Thankfully, the guys shut up and we went back to playing video games and cussing each other out.

I’m not sure how much time had passed before I could feel Lamia connecting with me and her sweet voice filling my mind.

*Hey handsome! How are you guys doing? Everything is set up. Let’s get Mike down here in an hour so we can get this party started.*

*I’ve missed you all day, Lam’s, I can’t wait to see you!* It was true, I had missed her, I didn’t like being away from her as it was, now it was almost painful to be away from her. It felt lonely. Even, cold.

*You’ll get to see me really soon, promise.* She chuckled. *just make sure everyone makes it down here. * And then she cut the link.
