Vargr and his Luna entered the tent, coming to the front and giving the crowd a wave. The crowd met him with cheers and when Vargr lifted his hand the crowd quieted down and tilted their necks in submission. It was not an act of pride for their Alpha. It was an act of fear. If they had bowed it would have shown respect, but to tilt your neck at a gathering like this, showed his pack feared him.

Teal stood next to me, his eyes not once leaving the tent where the Alpha stood, staring at the Luna with an obvious grievance. Did they have a history I wondered to myself.

My eyes were drawn back to the Alpha as he began to speak, his rough and vile voice carried throughout the arena without the need for a microphone. “Loyal subjects, this year is not just any year, the beginning of the games this year will mark the announcement that my daughter will be taking a chosen mate. I am pleased to announce the pairing of Lord Beta Baron’s son, Jasper, and my youngest daughter, Tala has been approved.” There was a slight hesitation in his voice when he said ‘my youngest daughter’.

“At the end of the games on the full moon, they will mate and mark each other and in true tradition, the coupling of this chosen pair will be overseen by the rank members and elders. I present to you the Betas son… Jasper” Vargr held his hand out towards the side of the tent where a young man who looked my age stepped out and made his way towards the Alpha.

“I now present my youngest daughter,” Again his words fumbled, ever so slightly, when he said ‘daughter’ “Tala!”

Looked towards the tent, expecting to see another version of Orion’s bitch, Shayna who was Vargr’s eldest daughter, but instead, my sight was drawn to the woman who entered the tent like a moth to a flame, her red hair catching all my attention.

My heart stopped. I swear it did, my breath caught in my throat and my body tingled all over sending a wave of Goosebumps across my skin despite the raging heat and causing me to shiver.

I was a good distance away, but the scent of Sea salt and oranges drifted to me like tendrils reaching out and searching for a host to latch onto.

Teal stiffened beside me, a look of anguish crossing his features and he held a longing as he watched the red-headed girl be escorted into the tent by two men and came and stand next to her father.

“May this year’s Gladiators be presented to the Alpha!” The announcer called out. I barely heard him and barely acknowledged walking forward. My eyes did not leave the flaming redhead that I walked towards.

We were being presented in groups of four, Myself, Teal and two others walked towards the Alpha who we were meant to greet. I had already told Teal I would not show any kind of submission to the piece of shit who called himself an Alpha.

Like I said I would rather die.

As we walked the length of the arena the announcer began to present us “I present our Champion Gladiator, our longest and most formidable competitor, the strongest and meanest… Teal!” The crowd broke out into a chorus of shouting. Some cheered while others booed. “Next we have our newest and biggest Gladiator, coming from a land far away, he thinks he is a King, with the mouth to back it up, but can he fight like one Prince-ee!!” He yelled.

Again the sounds of the crowd erupted, this time there was more booing but the sounds of the chanting were drowned out and the realm stood still as I took in the sight of the redheaded beauty. I was closer and could see her features more clearly.

Her flaming hair was woven into a braided crown framing her tiny face. Big round and bright blue eyes stared back at me, capturing my breath and making my heart pound faster. I felt my cock jolt in response and willed it to go down. This was not the time or the place for my desires to take over.

I let my eyes roam over her perfectly shaped body, the blue tunic dress hugging her curves tight, the color illuminating her eyes. Her rose buds lips were parted and her tongue came out and licked them. I copied the action feeling parched from her beauty.

Was this a rejection Was she ashamed of me because I stood here as a Gladiator Slave, and not the King I truly was The slight stab of pain that flitted through my heart had my jaw clenching at the thought of my mate rejecting me.

I furrowed my brows and saw her eyes shift to the man beside her. I had been so enamored by the tiny pale-skinned beauty and the need to claim her that I hadn’t even noticed the two men who stood beside her. When my eyes finally recognized them, I couldn’t help the low growl that resonated from my chest.

My mate was flanked by none other than Oliver and Jack. The angry rage built inside me, crawling through my skin like a parasite. I bit the inside of my cheek my wolf wanting to shift and kill the two men who stood way too close to my little flame.

‘SHE IS MINE’, my wolf growled, his hackles raised and ready to fight for what was his.

My mate's face flushed and she looked around nervously when she heard my growl. I pinned my sights on Oliver who began to tremble slightly when he noticed me. Then I watched as a smug grin came over him and he looked from me to my little flame and back again.

The fucker knew she was my mate and he bent down low to whisper something in her ear. I would kill the fucking prick.

“Get a hold of yourself, Kellen.” Teal whisper yelled at me, bringing me back to the now.

He nudged my arm, our group had been presented and now we were to return to the slave barracks. I gave the beauty one last look before turning my back and following Teal. My head was a mess of thoughts and Conri was howling, urging me to go back and claim our mate.

‘She is his daughter, she doesn’t want us.’ I spat at him in my mind. ‘We are not good enough for her.’. My wolf went quiet and crawled to the back of my mind with his tail tucked and a whimper of sadness filled my head.

When we reached the barracks, I went straight to my area and sat on my cot with my head in my hands. I just wanted to touch her. Her flushed and rosy-cheeked face filled my thoughts and her blue eyes were bright and mesmerizing. I groaned when I thought of how those soft lips would feel against mine.

“She is your mate.” I heard Teal, only to look up and find him standing with Ajani and Rogue.

I cocked my head at him, was it that obvious His Bright blue eyes staring at me his arms crossed tightly against his broad chest. I took him in not letting his gaze go. I could see him shift, he was starting to feel uncomfortable at my staring. He finally averted his eyes not being able to hold mine any longer.

And it was that small movement when he cast his eyes to the side and then down, that I realized who he was. My jaw slacked and hung open “And she is your daughter.” I said with a catch in my breath as I voiced the truth.

My little flames eyes were the copy of his, her red hair a little brighter but there was no mistaking it. My mate was Teal’s daughter.
