The Delta's Daughter Chapter 9
KELLEN
The three of us sat in mine and Mike’s suite, of course, being a Prince, I had one of the largest suites. It still wasn’t as big as my room back in the palace, but it was cozy and better than most of the dorms here. I didn’t need fancy all the time and the rooms' functions were suited to the academy.
Mike and I had bedrooms at opposite ends of the suite, with our own bathrooms. In the middle was a seating area with two ugly plaid couches and a wooden chair with a corduroy backing and seat cover. We had a microwave and fridge that Mike always kept stocked with beer or some sort of alcohol. And a little breakfast counter with two stools that separated the seating space from the kitchenette area. The hardwood floors had been remodeled or at least refinished and had a nice sheen to them to the point where you could almost see your own reflection.
We were waiting for my father to call us once Beta Michael (Mike’s dad) and Delta Marcus (Lamia’s dad) were there to conference with us. Mike walked over, handing both me and Lamia a beer and cracking his own open.
Lamia was sitting next to me on one of the couches, wearing a pair of short, grey work-out shorts and a loose-fitting black tank, her hair was pulled up into a messy bun and her black streaks fell out down the side of her face. She was in her comfy clothes and was relaxed with her feet curled underneath her on the couch and her ass facing towards me.
My eyes trailed over her long, long bare legs, her olive skin tone and creamy texture inviting me to touch them. I rested my hand on her thigh but quickly pulled it away. The thought of running my hands higher up her thigh had my cock twitching. This was unsettling. I had only ever thought of Lamia as a sister, but recent events and my wolf have had me seeing her for the beautiful young woman she is.
I had admitted to Mike that night I found them in the woods, that I thought she might be mine. That wasn’t when I had started to look at her differently though. Sure, I was jealous of what her and Mike had been doing and angry about where it might have led to if I hadn’t interfered, but at that point I thought my wolf and I were just being over protective. No, it wasn’t until she went through the extended training and the fuckers had accidently overdosed her with Nightshade and Wolfsbane and I stayed by her side while receiving treatment.
Everyone in the hospital room almost died that night. If not by my hand, then by hers. They had dosed her with Wolfsbane as planned and she was handling it fine. Her body seemed to have an unusually high tolerance of poison. I suspected her wolf had something to do with that too. Two hours later, I had come back to the room to check on her and that’s when all hell broke loose and my heart shattered to see the state she was in.
A stupid nurse had read her chart wrong, and gave her an equally high dose of Nightshade. Those two poisons mixed together and the amount in her system should have killed her. Those were the longest two weeks of my life.
I cringed and held my hand to my heart, a pain shooting through it as I thought of how she could have died, remembering the state of her body as I had walked into the hospital room.
Her body looked like it was on fire, a deep pink glow had covered her skin, sweat pouring from her, her limbs violently shaking and her lips as blue as my eyes. Her hair was plastered to her face from the sweat. Her body withered in pain, her mouth opening and closing gasping for air, for what seemed like forever but was only a few seconds, I was stuck in place.
She looked so frail, not anything like my strong, protective and beautiful Lamia. Quickly my shock turned to rage and my feet moved towards her bed, gathering her in my arms. Her heartbeat was erratic and the machines beeping were telling me she was going to go into cardiac arrest. The painful but rage filled howl my wolf and I let out in that second had every staff member in the building scrambling to her room.
It was too much for my wolf to see her like this and he had taken control, his anguish and furor exploding on the staff members.
He pinned the doctor up by his neck. “SAVE HER! OR DIE!” he had commanded, throwing the doctor to the floor. Despite his rage, Conri knew if he started killing people she could not be helped, even though every fiber in mine and his body wanted heads to roll. It took several staff members as well as Mike and Travis to pull me out of the room while they worked on her.
I had paced the hallway until they had come out and told me she was stable and could go in. So many emotions had filled my mind, worry, pain, rage, hurt, love, the thought of losing her weighed heavy on my heart and tears pricked my eyes. I couldn’t lose her, my wolf couldn’t lose her.
We stayed by her bed for almost two weeks until she had recovered and was completely out of danger. It was then I started to notice the subtle changes, how I looked at her, the light tingles whenever I touched her, the wanting and needing. A once innocent love had started to grow and change into a more primal and lust-filled love.
When I was told what or how she became in that state, I had them lock the nurse up until she could be questioned. Luckily for the nurse, I did not see her or she would not be alive right now. She may still die from her incompetence.
And while we waited for our parents to call and I looked at her smiling at Mike as they bantered back and forth about something mundane, I realized my feelings for her were changing. My love for her had grown and was developing into something more than friends, more than the brother/sister relationship we had. My wolf wanted her and he was sure they were mates. It wasn’t just my wolf, it was me too.
When I told her I loved her, like I always have, it was different now, deeper, and it made my body react in a way I never thought it would to her.
The ringing sound from my laptop broke me of my thoughts, bringing me back to reality and wanting to find out exactly what was going on at home and why our stay at the academy was being cut short. Mike came and took a seat on the other side of Lamia, placing her in the middle of us and causing her to scoot closer to me. I let out a deep breath and calmed my heart. Pressing the button on my laptop, the screen came into view and our respective fathers' faces popped up.
“Kids.” My Father’s rough voice greeted us. He looked tired, with dark rings under his eyes. The Beta and Delta didn’t look much better. They all looked like they had had sleepless nights.
“Father,” I nodded with a grimace. Wondering what was going on.
“Lamia, how are you feeling?” Delta Marcus enquired with an undertone of worry laced in his question.
“I’m good dad, all good and kicking ass, I love you!” she had replied with a smile. Nothing ever got this girl down.
Mike also greeted his father before I asked what the three of us wanted to know. “What the heck is going on dad?” I addressed the King.
They all glanced at each other with furrowed brows and tight lips before they turned their uneasy gazes back to us. My father took a deep breath before letting it out slowly and beginning to talk.
“We have quite a few things going on in the Royal pack. First of all, we have had increased rogue attacks, but it’s not just our pack, other Alphas have also reported frequent rogue attacks. Of course, most of these attacks have been on close allies to us.” The three of us shifted uneasily in our seats as my father’s words carried through the video chat. I felt Lamia grab my hand and looked over to see she was holding Mikes too.
Beta Michael spoke next “We are not sure what has provoked these attacks but one thing that seems to be evident is that, even though the attacks are small, they seem to be testing our borders, looking for weak spots. The other packs have agreed that their attacks seem to be similar.”
“We feel that this is just the beginning and something bigger is being planned. The council have thought it best to call a meeting and we are starting to organize and put that into effect. The meeting will be held within the next two weeks in the Royal pack territory. We have already sent out warriors to neighboring packs for support and cannot afford to send out anymore.” My father exclaimed.
That still didn’t equate to why we were being brought home and a few simple rogue attacks weren’t anything we couldn’t handle as well as other packs should be able to handle them too.
I ran my hand through my hair, and pulled my lips tight, the way my father was talking, it seemed like these rogues were organized with their attacks, which was unusual. Rogues were dirty foul creatures and couldn’t organize a piss up in a brewery. But it seemed these attacks were strategic, coupled with the fact that pack allies had also been attacked in the same manner.
“What is the reason for us being called home so soon? Not that we don’t want to see you.” I chuckled with my last words, trying to lessen the tension that was thick in the air.
“Well…. Alpha Garrick, has been expressing his distaste and concern for the future of the Kingdom and the Royal pack.”
“How so?” My fur was standing on end and I gritted my teeth as I asked my Father the King.
“He is under the impression that while you will make a great Alpha, he doubts your abilities as the next King.”
“What!” A deep growl emanated from the back of my chest, my body prickled as the hairs stood on end. I wasn’t just angry. No, I was furious! Who was this Alpha to doubt my ability, to doubt my father, the king, and his heir?
“He has the support of a council member, as well as a couple of other packs that we know of. The rogue attacks seem unrelated, however. However, I don’t trust Alpha Garrick and wouldn’t be surprised if he or his supporters were behind it.” My father finished.
“I’ll rip his fuckin’ head off!” a low growl came from Lamia and her hand tightened around mine. “So what is his play? He will be Alpha soon, within the next year, but Kellen won’t be taking the throne for another 2-3 years anyway, so why now? What’s his reasoning?” Lamia asked, spitting out her words in disgust.
“Because he wants the throne.” We looked at Mike, his hand resting on his chin; his face was stoic, showing no emotion except for the crease on his forehead as he scowled.
“Bingo” replied Delta Marcus, pointing at Mike through the screen. “Have you met his son Liam? Liam Potter? I believe he is attending the Alpha academy right now.”
“That’s the fucker that tried it on with Lamia! Cocky S.O.B!” Mike almost jumped out of his seat at the mention of the cocky shit who was constantly trying to harass Lamia and put his hands on her.
I was surprised she hadn’t beaten the shit out of him by now.
“WHAT!” Oh shit, Delta Marcus was pissed. “Who put their filthy paws on my daughter?” He was shouting and you could clearly see his face going a shade redder each second that passed by.
“Daddy! Don’t you think I would handle it? And if I didn’t, do you honestly think these two guys sitting next to me wouldn’t take care of it?” Nice save Lamia, I thought. Both Mike and I let out a deep breath that we didn’t even know we were holding. Lamia was just smiling at our fathers through the screen.
“Alright kids…. We love you. The Royal guard should be there at the end of the week to escort you and Hunji home. Until then, stay out of trouble!” Beta Michael looked at Lamia in particular when he said that. “Oh and Mike, give me a private call after we hang up. I want to go over some Border security with you, as well as other things.”
“Sure thing dad,” he replied.
We all said our goodbyes and hung up. Sitting there in silence, each of us mulling over the conversation until Lamia broke the silence.
“Well… that was… Interesting, to say the least.” She said, humming. I nodded in agreement.
