LAMIA

“King, and I have decided to make Riocht our permanent home. I want you to come with me and stay as my second in command.” I watched Hunji, looking for any reaction to what I had just said. His face remained a mask of indifference.

“King, will be asking Tobias the same thing and leaving Xander in charge of the Kodiak kingdom for now.” Still there was no reaction.

“Hunji, say something, please.” I said softly, still trying to coax a reaction from him. The first sign of any emotion was him pulling his lips into a thin line.

“Of course, my Queen.” He nodded.

“Really, that’s all you have to say, Hunji?” I huffed and rubbed my forehead with my fingers. “If that’s not what you want, then tell me! Forget the formalities for a moment, will you? Could we just have a conversation as friends?”

I took deep breath; his lack of engagement was irking me. It was just him and I in my office. Mathias was helping train the warriors today with Josiah, and Travis was with Rhett overseeing changes to our border security.

“Hunji, you have been the most loyal person to me, and I can never thank you enough for that. We built MacTire together with Travis. Without you we would never have even got off the ground. I will make you Alpha of MacTire, if that’s what you want? Hell, I will make you King.”

That got a reaction from him. Hunji’s head snapped up to me, his eyebrows pulling tightly together and the lines in his forehead increasing. His eyes darkened with his wolf.

Did I piss him off?

“No, I will stay with you.” He said, with finality. “Where you go, I go. I have no desire to be an Alpha nor do I ever wish to be a King. It is not my destiny. So I will humbly decline.”

“I don’t know your past, Hunji, or the man that you were. I only know the man you are, and that man is courageous, strong and loyal. I can feel the Alpha aura in you. I have done for a while. More so now that I have been crowned Queen, and you are worthy of any position. Do not ever doubt your worth, Hunji.”

It was strange telling Hunji to not doubt himself. I had always seen him as a role model, a big brother figure and valued his guidance and it was usually him telling me not to doubt myself.

“If I may suggest, I think Travis would make an excellent leader for MacTire. The people already love him and his position now is a waste of his talents.” I listened to his carefully thought out words and agreed with him.

“That’s what I was thinking, making him the Alpha of MacTire and having Rhett serve as his third in command. However, I would also like to see Rhett build a new council. I think he would make an ideal spokesperson for both humans and shifters.” I leant my head on my hands and peered at Hunji’s dark eyes scrunching my nose at him. He cocked an eyebrow at me. “I have also decided to hand the Golden Circle pack back to Kellen, so they are under the Royal Packs rule again.”

“You do realize, Hunji, that if you remain my second in command, as the Queen of shifters, you will have more authority than any other Alpha in this realm?” I said after a beat.

“I do, but that is not why I will stay with you. I don’t care about the rank or the weight the title comes with. I serve you Lamia, only you.” I detected only truth in his eyes and smiled at him.

“Thank you Hunji, Mathias and I plan on announcing this to Travis tonight. I figured he would rather choose his Beta.”

A knock on the door interrupted our conversation.

I had scented them before they had even knocked on the door. Abner Brooks popped his head in, followed by Amitola.

“Ama!” I smiled, calling her by her nick name. Something she insisted on. It’s what her grand cubs would be calling her one day. Getting up, I moved around my desk to give my mate's mother a hug. “Does Mathias know you are here?”

“He should do. I embarrassed him in front of all your lovely warriors.” She chuckled.

“Your highness,” Abner greeted me, “I guess you didn’t have to wait until you were 21 to be crowned?”

“I guess not,” I replied while giving him a hand shake. “I am actually glad you are here Abner, Hunji and I were just discussing some changes we would be making to the ranking structure of MacTire and I would value your opinion on the matter.”

“I would be happy to talk with you and offer any advice that I can.” He said, a genuine smile curved on his lips and his light blue eyes danced with the excitement of being included.

It was a strange feeling to know that every shifter knew who you were with just one look. Their spirit animals, recognizing our hierarchy instantly and informing their human counterparts, that we were royalty, the supreme rulers.

It was something that made my thoughts falter when greeting people and I wondered if I would ever get used to the shock of remembering exactly what my title was. It was all still so new.

Amitola excused herself and went in search of her other son, Xander. Saying she wanted to meet this little mate of his. I could tell she was thrilled that both her sons had found their mates by the animated way her eyes lit up.

I couldn’t wait to see her reaction when we told them all Mathias and I were expecting. I had decided to tell my parents over video chat later tonight with Mathias. I didn't want to wait for them to come here, or us visit them.

Hunji and I discussed our thoughts with Abner on Travis, as well as creating a new team of councillors. He thought it best that we leave the high council members in place for now and let them choose their successors. Of course, Abner Brooks would remain seated on the high council. He was in his mid to late 50’s and the youngest member who held a seat.

MATHIAS

I worked Josiah and the warriors to the bone during training today, satisfied that I left them all groaning and with aching muscles. They had no idea I was scouting which warriors Lamia and I wanted to transfer to Riocht when we decided to make the move.

We wouldn’t take all the best and leave MacTire with leftovers. We were looking for certain characteristics; warriors that could lead teams and help build an army. I was planning on doing the same thing with the Kodiak Kingdom and hoped to return to the Clan mansion next week sometime.

We would build another elite army, one that would benefit the guardian Clan, one that could protect our new kingdom and help us thrive.

Lamia and I talked about it, extensively. Knowing that things could not happen overnight, we began to draw out plans and, because we were at a cross roads between where we would make our permanent home, and where we would rule from, it was a mutual decision that uprooting to Riocht just made sense.

We already had a Clan there, and the Guardians were a Clan of skilled fighters and a thriving community, even if said community was a little behind the times in many ways. We could work with that, and by bringing small changes to the Kingdom, we believed we could thrive even more.

Riocht was a smaller territory than that of the other kingdoms, but it sat right in the heart of the continent. This would allow us to rule over the other kingdoms with ease and travelling to each place would be less hassle.

Travis was a sound choice to take over MacTire, despite my slight abhorrence towards him. My distaste for him was only because I knew he had touched what was mine; otherwise he was a good guy, took his role seriously and led his people with pride. He would make a fine leader.

I walked into the castle from one of the back doors and made my way to our chambers, a quick shower and then I would meet everyone for dinner. Tonight we were having a private dinner, unlike the last few nights when we sat with the pack in the main dining hall.

“Brother, have you seen our mother since she has arrived?” I met Xander on the stairs, on the way down to dinner. His hand wrapped around Ria’s securely.

I asked Xander yesterday if he would go back to the Clan Mansion and if he would be willing to take over the kingdom in my absence. He had told said it depended on what Ria wanted.

I understood because I hadn’t been back to my kingdom for months now, my beast refusing to leave his mate’s side, and truth be told, I had no intentions of leaving her either, believing any time spent far away from her would cause me to not only worry, but tug at my heart strings. I couldn’t think of spending a whole day away from her, let alone a week or more.

“Yah, she accosted me on the training fields in front of all the warriors.” I chuckled. “Made me kiss her cheek, wouldn’t leave until I did.”

My brother laughed, and Ria looked at me shaking her head, “You should be lucky you have a mother to kiss and one as awesome as Miss Amitola.” They hadn’t completed the mating bond yet, and Xander hadn’t imprinted on her either. I wondered if he had even told her about my proposition.

“So Ria, will you be moving to the Kodiak Kingdom with Xander” I asked her, watching her eyes widen in surprise. Nope, he hadn’t told her.

“Fuck, bro! I hadn’t even had the chance to mention it to her yet!” His irritation reached me and I bit the inside of my mouth to stop the smirk I wanted to give them so badly.

“Well you better get on with it because Mom will be hounding both of you.” I didn’t tell him that I was sure the attention would be off him once Lamia and I made our announcement.I would let him sweat it out for now.

“Xander, tell me what? Because there is no way I am going there to sit with everyone and get blindsided just because you haven’t discussed something with me.” Ria scolded Xander, waggling her finger at him with her other hand on her hip, her tiny figure looking up at his tall frame.

I left them on the stairs and made my way to the private dining room that was just off the side of the kitchen. Leaving Xander to explain to Ria what I was talking about and hoping that she would make her decision tonight, as well as hoping that she would go with him.

She was a little spit fire and suited Xander well. Ria didn’t take any of his shit, and could give as good as she could take it.

Lamia and kept the formalities light throughout dinner. All the key players were here, including Abner, Rhett and Josiah.

As expected, our mother adored Ria and praised her for her work in the castle and her role in the schools and with the pack children.

“You would make a fine Den Mother,” She had told Ria, explaining that a Den mother in a Clan served as the same role as a Luna in a pack.

Our mother had also taken a shine to Petra, who sat between her and Travis and the feeling was mutual. Since coming back, Petra had been quiet and for the past few days had begun to ask after Finnegan, concerned about the captor who kept her safe and she was adamant that he was really a good guy. That has yet to be proved.

Lamia, would always give her the same answer, that he was healing in the bear kingdom and she could speak with him once Tobias was able to question him. He was currently sitting in our cells and still hadn’t woken up. His wounds had healed but the Clan healer said his mind was still in the process of being repaired and his beast seemed to also be recovering from some kind of trauma.

During the whole dinner, I kept my hand on Lamia’s thigh, gently squeezing every now and then. I always had to be touching her when she was near. Part of it was the mate bond that drew us together, most of it was because I couldn’t get enough of my little Queen.

Just before desert was ready to be announced, Lamia sent me a mind link *King, I think we should make our announcement now, I can’t wait any longer.* she said with restlessness in her voice. She was being impatient as usual. I just chuckled back at her through the mind-link.

“Gentlemen, Ladies,” I cleared my throat, standing from my seat and dragging Lamia up to stand with me, grasping her tiny hand in mine. Everyone stopped and all eyes were on us.

“First of all, thank you for being here. There are a few family members missing but we are happy to have all of you, who we consider family, here with us. Over the past few days, Lamia and I have been making some decisions. The first is that, eventually, we will be moving to Riocht and making it our home.” A little chatter began, more so from my mother and Ria, but died down when I began speaking again. “The second thing is, I have asked Xander to return to the Kodiak Kingdom and be the acting Alpha of the kingdom and Clan for the time being. Tobias will be joining us at Riocht.”

“Hunji has also agreed to join us at Riocht and still serve as my 2nd in command. Tobias’ role will be the same, they will both serve as 2nds equally.” Lamia took over and then looked directly at Travis to address him.

“Travis, I would like to ask you if you would consider becoming the Alpha of MacTire?” She looked at him, biting her lip in anticipation.

When Travis stood from his chair, he bowed to us both. “I would be honored, my Queen, and it would give me great pleasure to serve as the Alpha to this great kingdom.” I could swear he had tears in his eyes, but hid his emotions quickly so as not embarrass himself in front of the rest of us.

“There is a stipulation that comes with the offer though,” she paused and looked towards Rhett as Travis sat back down. You may choose our own Beta, but I would like Rhett to remain here as your third in command. He would serve his current position but also take on a Gamma role, as your advisor. If you wish to choose a Delta, that is up to you.”

Rhett was smiling and then looked at Travis for confirmation. He seemed elated that he would be given a rank such as third in command.

“I would like that very much and I already have someone in mind for a Beta,” He looked over at Josiah, “What do you say, big guy?”

“Me?” Josiah pointed to himself, eyes wide and mouth hanging open.

“Yes you, you have proved time and time again your loyalty to this pack and demonstrated leadership skills by taking care of the kingdom when we were off at war.”

“So the next announcement we have needs to stay in this room... for now.” Lamia said, with a little command behind in her tone.

She didn’t want the information to spread before we had the chance to talk with her parents. I also knew she wanted to be the one to tell Kellen and Mike, just as I wanted to be the one to tell Tobias.

Lamia looked up at me all smiles and our gazes held for a moment, neither of us could hardly contain our excitement. I felt her little hand slip into my large one and grip it tightly.

“Dear goddess!!! You’re pregnant!!!” Squealed Ria at the top of her voice.

Well, there went our final announcement. Way to go Ria.

“Yes, yes! I am pregnant, we are having a baby!” Lamia replied excitedly and Ria bounced out of her chair to come give Lamia a hug, her blonde hair a blur and her light blue-green eyes full of happy tears.

“I’m going to be an Aunt. she jumped for joy, still holding on to Lamia.

Everyone got up to congratulate us. The only person who didn’t seem happy was Petra and Lamia noticed this.

“Petra sweetheart, what’s wrong? Are you not happy for us?” She asked her, bending down by her chair where she sat sulking.

“You won’t want me now you are having your own baby.” The girl huffed, crossing her arms. Lamia gave her a light giggle and wrapped an arm around her shoulder.

She leant into Petra and whispered, but loud enough that everyone could hear. “You are so special to all of us. We couldn’t imagine you not being a part of our family. We love you, Petra, and I would love for you to move to Riocht with us. However, I will leave that choice up to you.

"Just know that if you decided to stay with Uncle Travis, I would miss you very much, but I wouldn’t be mad. I love you Petra.” Lamia kissed her cheek and I watched as Petra’s whole demeanor changed and her eyes lit up with the realization that she was loved and wanted.

She threw her arms around Lamia’s neck. “Thank you Alpha, I love you too.”

Later, once we got back into our room, we called Lamia’s parents and broke the news to them. Vivian, Lamia’s mother, was ready to pack her bags and leave that instant to come here so she could be with her daughter and help with the baby.

“Calm down woman,” her father chided, “We have to wait until Kellen comes back before we can leave.” This ensued in an argument between them and we laughed, saying good bye and leaving them to it.

It was crazy how much a life could change in just a few short months. At the beginning of the year, I was a cold heartless bastard, fucking anything that spread their legs for me, washing my life down the drain, abusing drugs, and almost beast-less. Thinking that was my life, a tyrant ruler who had been betrayed by their mate and carrying out her death sentence.

But in one night, all that changed when a little she-wolf, full of sass and strength, wandered into my kingdom to save her father.

She changed everything for me, I was becoming the man I was meant to be, the king the people needed and now I was going to be a father.

I smiled at my little mate, and pushed all my happiness on to her. I wanted her to feel how happy she made me.

How much I was in love with her.
