The Delta's Daughter Chapter 377

MIKE

There was no way in hell I was letting Lyric go in there alone. No way.

'We don't leave mate.' Duke says with finality. Agreeing with me.

I felt a little guilty about the way I handled Lyric. She just didn't understand that even looking at her was driving me insane and goading Duke to claim her.

I didn't want that.

I didn't want my wolf to mark her without his consent and definitely didn't want him mating her in front of the warriors. My actions were shameful, but her actions were seen as a challenge, I was a hot-blooded male with a dominating wolf who was just as highly ranked as an Alpha. I just snapped wanting nothing more than to make her submit. It was my primal nature to control and command. When she didn't show me respect my tether of control snapped.

Pete climbs out of my car and seconds later Lyric is hopping in. Her scent immediately fills the car and wraps around me.

I have to close my eyes to rein in my urges. I had no idea how we were going to get through the night. As the days passed my wolf and I became more attached to her.

First, it was just wanting to catch a glimpse of Lyric. Then it was wanting to be near her. Now all we want to do is touch her and we can't stand the thought of being away from her. There was a desperate need to protect her at all times.

The whole drive here I would glance in the rearview mirror to just make sure the car she was in was behind us. Except my feelings are a double-edged sword, because the more I am around her, inhaling her sweet scent, feeling the pull of the bond and the crazy electricity we create between us. The more my desire to mate and claim her is.

It's the only reason I have had to put distance between us. I don't trust myself to not act.

"Mike," She says softly with an undertone of warning. "I can get in and out of there faster on my own."

I shake my head. "Not happening sweetheart." She opens her mouth to protest "Anything could go wrong."

"Fine, but can we play it my way?"

"What's your way?" I'm not sure I'm going to like her idea, but I'm willing to hear her out.

"We go in, you pose as my client. Have a few drinks, scope out the threat. After a while, I head to the bathroom. I retrieve the items. And we get out of there."

"You make it sound so simple." It's a solid plan except there is no backup plan, it's full of loopholes. We need a contingency. "What if you get caught?" She gives me the stink eye. "I caught you."

"That's because your wolf could scent me." True. "If I get caught then you're there to rescue me, big guy." She winks.

"Fuck Lyric," You can't look at me like that." I shake my head because along with the wink, and don't even think she even realized, she had given me a sultry look. This girl was sassy and sexy with an innocence she didn't even realize she projected. She was going to be my undoing.

"Eight minutes. That's all I need to secure the items."

"Eight minutes?" I question, "That's pretty precise."

"I don't like fucking around on a job." She says quite seriously, and I believe her.

"Fine let's do this. But you link me at the first sign something feels off." I point a finger at her and sternly tell her. Moons, I wish it was anyone else going in there but her.

To my surprise, she leans over and smacks a kiss on my cheek, pulls back, and giggles before opening her side of the door and stepping out.

I'm momentarily stunned, lifting my hand to my cheek before I gather my wits and follow her out of the car.

I send a quick mind link to the warriors, confirming they are in position.

"Here, because mind linking will be obvious. Ave and Pete have one also. " Lyric hands me an ear com and I pop it in, securing it within my ear canal.

We headed towards the entrance of the club, after spraying ourselves with yet another scent masking spray so we smelled similar to rogues; it was easier to get into the building this way. Less conspicuous plus to get to the other floors you had to go through the main part of the club. Lyric walks slightly ahead of me, her ass swaying as she confidently walks a small purse slung over her shoulder.

I let my eyes take her in, running up the length of her legs that are covered in leather pants that fit her like a second skin. I adjust my pants that suddenly became tight once again and groan when I forcibly pull my eyes from the curve of her ass in those pants.

Music blares from inside and only gets louder as we pull the door open. Two large burly men sit on either side of the entrance inside. I can smell they are bears, but from their size, I would have guessed that anyway.

Lyric tips her head to the two men and breezes past them, leading me further into the club. The open room is shrouded in darkness, only illuminated by the flashing multicolored strobe lights.

A long glass bar fills the length of the back wall, that I can see past the crowd of bodies on the dance floor. An upbeat tempo plays as patrons sway and jump to the beat. Males and females grinding against each other already covered in sweat.

Werecats and werebears dance in heated movements, casting curious glances at Lyric and me as we make our way to the bar. At first, I think we are going grab a couple of stools, but Lyric makes a hard left and I find us in front of some leather booths off to the side and out of the offensive flashing lights.

Lyric slides into the booth and I slide in next to her.

I lean in close so she can hear me, "This place is insane." She nods in agreeance.

A waitress appears in front of us, Lyric holds up two fingers and I can just make out her asking for two silver bombs. A harsh drink of tequila, lemon and concentrated wolfsbane, a way to intoxicate shifters quicky and subdue your spirit animal without actually putting them to sleep.

"A few drinks, just so we can gauge the atmosphere. So people think we are here for a good time. Then I will make a move upstairs." She tells me, leaning into me and surrounding me with her enticing scent.

I draw in a deep breath, my eyes closing for a moment as I take her in, letting her peachy aroma calm my wolf. Duke quietly paces in my mind. He knows we are on a mission, but he also has a desperate urge to mate with Note, Lyrics wolf. It's primal and consuming and her scent, although calming, is heady and enticing. It's hard to tell how long Duke will stay calm.

"We have mind link ability but let's keep the coms in any way," I state. Still not on board with letting her out of my sight.

Except this is Lyric's jam. This is what she does. She's the best and if she says she can work faster without me holding her back, then that's what we will do. Whether I like it or not.

We sit and sip our drinks for almost half an hour until Lyric nudges me. "It's time."

I sigh, "I thought we might dance first," I gesture with my head hoping to delay what we came to do even for just a few more moments.

No sooner had the words left my lips, I was excited at the prospect of holding Lyric in my arms, our bodies moving together.

"Okay." She smiled to my surprise.

I stood, not wanting to wait a moment longer to have her pressed against my body. Offering my hand, she took it, and I led her towards the dance floor. Dancing was something I was good at. Lamia and I used to love to dance together. Jonda not so much, she enjoyed dancing, but her movements were jerky, and she found finding a rhythm uncomfortable.

Lyric swayed her hips to the beat, her feet moving with the tempo. Her body moved in a sultry and seductive rhythm as those luscious hips rotated and her body slithered and curved like serpent.

When she gave me her back, my eyes transfixed on the way she danced and the movement of her ass. My hands came up, gripping her hips and pulling her back against my chest. With bent knees I began to move with her, like we had been doing this our whole lives.

They way we molded and fit against each other was perfect, sensual and seductive. We lost ourselves in the music as I we grinded against each other. I spun Lyric around and our eyes locked and held. Our bodies doing all the talking we needed.

Lyric wound her arms around my neck. At that point I was ready walk her right backout the door and have her. The hardness of my cock was testament to how much I wanted her. She leaned in and I thought she was going to kiss me, "It's time." She breathily spoke into my ear. Reality of where we were and why crashed down on me.

She let go of me and reluctantly, I let her go.

For a brief moment I watched her wind her way through the growing crowd, before I trailed after her. Once back at the table, she called the waitress over asking for two more drinks, before announcing loudly that she was going to the lady's room.

I caught her wrist before she could walk away, "Eyes open little thief. If it doesn't feel right abandon the mission." I tell her, hoping to convey my worry through my eyes.

"I promise," She nods. And once again, I let her go much mine and my wolfs protests.

*Eight minutes* I link her once she is out of my sight.

*Eight minutes* she confirms, I look at my watch then mind link Peter, to let him know she has gone in and to switch to coms.

Ten minutes later, there no sign of Lyric. She is not answering her com or mind links. I begin to panic when the music abruptly stops, and the partiers halt their dancing.

A crack sounds across the club and the sea of people part. At the other end of the club stands a large burly man, a scar across his blue eye, the other a shit shade of brown. He smiles a mouth full of yellow teeth, chipped and rotten, shrugging off his bear skin coat and letting it fall to the floor.

In his hand was a whip, the tail edged in metal. The tip illuminated blue. Just like the weapons that had been used to attack the Kodiak Kingdom.

"I have something I think belongs to you." He sneered with a cold laugh.

My blood ran cold as I froze when one of his minions pulled Lyric to the front, holding her hair tightly and a small electrical prod was jammed against her side.

LYRIC

I was a little surprised that there wasn't more security. At least in the way of guards.

I managed to slip into the elevator easily, after disabling their cameras, and ride it to the third floor. As the doors opened, I braced myself, ready to engage with whatever or whoever I may find on the other side. But there was no one.

I furrowed my brows making my way down the hall to the bank entrance. Using my decoder, I bypass the security lock and slip inside and make my way to where I know the safety deposit boxes are kept.

This Oliver guy, who I had supposedly secured the epitaph for said he had stored the transcribed text and some letters in box 3339. I quickly buzz around the room, my fingers lightly brushing over the boxes until… "Ah ha!" I smile with glee finding the desired box.

It was a two key process, luckily, I didn't need a key never mind two.

I look at my watch I had two minutes left.

Making quick work at opening the box, I pull out a stack of letters and a notebook, quickly flipping through it to make sure it's what my Beta was after. Once confirmed, I opened my small purse, pulling at the fabric to reveal another bag within the seams.

Time is of the essence and the fact that the bank had not been guarded at all, was playing on my mind. I turned to leave when a number on a box caught my eye. It was the date that my pack had been destroyed and everything I loved had been taken or killed.

It caught my eye because the box and number were out of sequence. It didn't fit.

Curiosity got the better of me and broke into the box. I never dreamed I would find what was hidden inside. I slipped the object into my purse and quickly dashed out of there knowing my eight minutes I promised Mike was up.

As I left the bank, closing the main door behind me, Note stirred and quickly became alert. 'I sense danger' She lowly growled from within my head.

I knew better than to second guess my wolfs instincts and looked around. There was a small office to the side, and I dashed in, remembering the blueprints of the building. Hoping the schematics were still the same and the duct vent that dropped down to the ground floor was still there.

Luck was on my side, and I managed to pull back the vent cover using my wolfs strength and dropping the bag down the shaft.

Now I just had to make it back downstairs, hoping that I wouldn't run into whatever danger had Note on edge.

It seemed lady luck had only granted me one wish. The elevator doors opened and there stood Garrison in all his ugliness, wearing a coat made of bear skin. Bile rose in my throat thinking it was probably the fur of a spirit animal he wore and wondered how he could be so vile as a shifter himself to wear it.

"Oh, little miss Swift." The vile werebear chuckles showing me his mouthful of rotting teeth. "It seems you stole from the wrong Bear this time." He glares right at me, his skin a pale pink with darker pink swirls peeking out from under his clothes and trailing up his neck to the base of his skull behind his ears.

Much like the marks on Jonda and of the headless body at Miko's.

I didn't know Garrison personally, but I knew of him, and it seems he knew of me too.

"Your reputation precedes you. It's a wonder Miko didn't want to share you." He laughs again. His eyes greedily roamed over my body filling me with disgust. "What you didn't bank on was the laser lock when you broke into that box."

I mentally cursed myself for not thinking of that or checking for it. I was too gung-ho, and the simplicity of the job made me forget who we were dealing with. I wanted to ask which box he was speaking of. Instead, I kept my mouth shut.

"Grab her." He snarled, unlatching the whip at his side.

His men flew forward, roughly yanking me by the arms, one of them kicking my legs out from under me. I didn't fight them like I wanted to. It would do me no good.

Knelt before the werebear drug lord, he stalks towards me, his beady eyes cold and full of hatred. "This is business not personal," I say with indifference meeting those dark and ill-intentioned eyes.

"Oh, it's very personal when I have been paid good money to protect that box." He laughs again, the corner of his lip turning up, "Now I must punish you."

A tremble makes its way through my body and Note calms me from within, 'We will not show fear.' She says with determination.

"Bring her downstairs." Garrison snaps at his minions. "You thought you could walk into my place and steal?" He growls out in anger. "Thought you and your little friend could steal from me?" He chuckles sinisterly. "Master will love this one."

Master? Why does that phrase ring a bell?

"Shit!" I cry out when a hot searing burst of electricity zaps through my body making me pant for air. What the fuck did they just hit me with? The com in my ear screeches and crackles before going silent.

I look down at my side only to see a small taser being held against me. "There was no need for that!" I hiss trying to fight off the jolting pain that coursed through my muscles.

Roughly, I'm pulled to my feet and dragged into the elevator.

I reached out to Note, hoping she can connect with Duke, unfortunately, we are not marked and mated so they have no connection. Mind linking is too risky at this time.
