The Delta's Daughter Chapter 183
TOBIAS
Hunji and I were walking behind Mike and Jonda, we were on our way back to the Inn. We had just come from a meeting with Alpha John, Jonda’s brother, where we had been discussing where the three units of warriors would stay when they arrived tomorrow.
After learning that Vargr was an Alpha to a kingdom in Bhakhil, the information supplied by Finnegan and related to us by Mathias, Mike didn’t want to wait another minute to head out and find King Kellen. Every second was a delay in bringing his friend home, so Jonda secured a charter boat for us and we were to leave first thing in the morning.
Hunji and I were not keen on the idea that Jonda would be accompanying us. She couldn’t shift and her werewolf abilities were barely there, making her more human than shifter. It was too dangerous for her and we did not want to have to worry about another body.
Mike, on the other hand, was so besotted with her that he overruled us and was excited that his little love interest would be joining us on the journey. They had been joined at the hip since he took her to bed. I didn't care so much, but Hunji had shaken his head and said he and Jonda were a bad idea. That the moon goddess had not paired them and it would only end in tragedy. Luckily, the idiot had enough sense to demand that once we arrived at the port that she was to stay there and wait for our troops. Who would follow behind us and arrive 2 days later.
It was smart to not all travel together. It would draw a lot less attention to us. If Kellen was where Finnegan had told us, the last thing we wanted was for this Vargr to get wind that we were on our way to rescue the Wolf King. No, it was better to be inconspicuous. Though the three of us butted heads more often than not, we worked well together, the three of us being a small unit of our own. Of course, I was the biggest and badest being the only bear shifter in our threesome.
"When we get back to the room, you better make good on your promises Beta,” Jonda giggled playfully whispering to Mike, unaware that we could hear her and the sly seductiveness of her voice.
I looked at Hunji who shrugged his shoulders and I rolled my eyes at his none reactive demeanor. The dude was way too laid back in some instances and in others, he was way too tense. There was no in-between with Hunji. What annoyed me the most was how you could never tell what he was thinking, he was so closed off that I didn’t think he even knew what emotion was.
I can’t tell you how many times I have tried to rile him up, purposely trying to get on his last nerve and poking fun at him. Still, he would look at me with those dark and ominous eyes. They were like pieces of onyx, so dark they looked permanently black like his wolf was just hovering below the surface, ready to take control at any second.
“Get a room, you two,” Hunji yelled at Mike and Jonda, his face blank and tone even. Yet again, he lacked any trace of emotion. The most I had ever seen him show that he had any kind of personality was when he spoke to Lamia or on the rare occasion he would joke with Mike.
Maybe he just didn’t like me. Maybe it was because he was older Only four years older than me but his soul cried out that he was ancient and had the knowledge of a priest. Not that I cared, well maybe just a little. “Why don’t you like me” My thoughts spilled out like diarrhea. I hadn’t meant to say it out loud, but I guess I was a little insecure and wanted to know.
“I don’t dislike you.” He deadpanned. I waited for more. But that was it.
“You never try to hang out with me, or start up a conversation unless it is business.” I shot back at him, determined to get the truth from him.
“Tobias, you’re reading too much into it. Don’t take it personally.” He stopped walking and turned to face me. I also halted in my tracks, Mike and Jonda unaware that we had stopped. “I don’t dislike you, I just don’t get you. You squander your life partying like there’s no tomorrow not caring who it affects or how your poor choices reflect on your King and Queen. When Riocht is finished we will all be living there and you cannot bring your playboy, fuck boy attitude with you.” Once he finished reaming my ass out, leaving me there to stand stunned at his honesty, he began walking again.
I wish I had never asked.
“You are such a hypocrite!” I rebuked him. “You think you are all high and mighty like you are some powerful wolf when really you are nothing but a sheep. A follower, you let your queen think for you and blindly follow her instructions. Just because I like to have a good time, doesn’t mean I am not loyal. I am not hurting anyone, yet you, a wolf who can’t even look a woman in the eye dare to judge me” I was angry now, if he wanted to get my beast in a tizzy, well, he had succeeded.
“I don’t care what you do Tobias, I just wish you would be a little more responsible about it.” Hunji bit back with a strained voice. Now I was getting a reaction. Exactly what I was looking for.
“What and be boring like you I mean really Hunji, who are you No one knows anything about your past. Is your name even Hunji Is there a last name to go with that” I spat letting my beast show in my eyes, pushing the Queens second just that little more.
A growl ripped from Hunji and so quick he had me by the neck and dropped my ass to the floor. I was a good few inches taller than him and had a lot more meat on me, but as the dark wolf loomed over me, his eyes fully black, he bared his canines at me and I saw the dark and dangerous wolf I had heard whispers about.
“What the fuck is going on with you two Hunji, let him go!” I heard Mike shouting but Hunji’s grip tightened on me, crushing my windpipe, stopping my lungs from filling with much-needed air. Not soon enough Hunji’s grip finally loosened and his hand was removed from my neck along with the force of his weight and I coughed while gasping for air.
“Fuck.” I finally let out “Your fucking unhinged.” I thought out loud, thinking this was how King would have reacted before he found Lamia. Completely out of control. Hunji had a long fuse but I had lit the end and found out just how explosive he could be. It must have killed him to lose his cool with him and show me his not-so-tempered side. When I looked into his eyes as his fingers had tightened around my thick neck, I saw the look of murder. A man so broken, that he would not have cared if he had taken my life. A man who is said to have only killed while defending his queen. I was told he doesn't like to take a life.
