The night of the full moon

KELLEN

We had finished the pack run early due to the rain and the rolling storm that blew in from the north suddenly. Usually, rain won’t stop a wolf, but the torrential down-pour came heavy and fast. With it, raging thunder clapped in the sky and lightning began to strike, forking across the grounds of the Royal Palace.

We ran for cover, shifting when we reached the pergola. I had been seeing a little she wolf, Vanessa, for a couple of weeks now. I hadn’t been that same playboy since Lamia. Not to say I haven’t had my share of girls in the past two years, but there were no more wham, bam thank you Ma’ams. I kept them around for at least a few weeks.

I had taken Vanessa back to my room; actually it was a guest room I used. I didn’t like bringing anyone up to the royal floor. It was too personal, especially if they were not my fated mate. So I had the ‘spare’ room I kept. No sooner had the door closed, she was upon me.

Her lush lips locked to mine, her hands tangling in my hair and her legs wrapping around my waist. Grinding against my erection, I carried her over to the bed and collapsed on top of her. The full moon was at its peak, hidden behind a furious storm.

I lined up my cock with her entrance, and shoved into her in one hard thrust. Not giving her any time to adjust, I began my assault on her. Her large tits bounced with each re-entry.

Things were heating up, she was nearing her climax and I began to shove against her harder when suddenly a searing pain began to burn in my chest. My wolf, Conri, started going nuts in my head, trying to claw his way out to the surface. I was still thrusting into Vanessa, when the burn intensified. I grabbed my chest, my heart beating so hard I thought it was going to violently burst out.

Conri pushed his way to the forefront, teeth gnashing and snarling at the discomfort of the inferno burning us.

‘What is wrong with us?’ I tried to reach him but was met with howls and growls. My claws began to extend and I tried to stop the shift, tried to stop him from taking over, but I couldn’t. He was too strong.

Lamia’s image flashed behind my eyes, she was glowing, a blue light all around her and her eyes bright, Her emerald greens sparkling under the moonlight.

I fucked Vanessa harder, brutally with force.

The pain in my chest was throbbing, and Conri fought to the surface. He was in control now.

“Lamia” I called out. I thought the pain was coming from her. I thought that was why Conri was out of control.

I felt our bond change.

“Stop, Kellen! Stop! please” The she wolf had whimpered.

I heard the screams coming from Vanessa, but I couldn’t see her. “Please! No! Kellen stop!” The screaming continued. I heard my voice speak to her, but it wasn’t me,

“You wanted to fuck an Alpha; this is an Alpha fucking you! You are not worthy of my seed.”  It was the last thing I remember before I lost full control to Conri, before blacking out.

When I came too, it was still dark and the storm had passed. I sat up, immediately thinking of Vanessa. Her screams were of pain and fearful, the horrific shrill of her cry’s flitted through my head and when I looked over… the blood, it was everywhere.

“Oh my Goddess! Fuck! What did I do?” Her body was bloody, claw marks covered her from head to toe. I had killed her! The panic began settling in and my breathing became ragged with fear, fear that I had killed this poor girl.

She twitched, she was alive! Immediately, I mind-linked for a doctor and my father. What had I done?

I was horrified at the sight, the wounds I had inflicted on her. She was rushed to the pack hospital. She would heal but it would take time. She had lost too much blood and her wolf could not heal her fast enough. She was only an Omega; their healing gifts were not as swift as ours.

I showered after they had taken her away. The guilt, eating away at me. I stepped out from the spray of water and began drying myself off. I casually glanced in the mirror, remembering the pain I had been in, before Conri took over and almost killed that poor girl.

“What the fuck is that?” I said aloud as I noticed a mark on my chest. I moved closer to the mirror for inspection. Right there, right over my heart was a mark, a small sword, about 3 inches in length, like it had been branded onto me. No, not like, it had.

The burning I felt was the mark forming on my chest.

‘Conri?’ I called out to him. I could feel him, he was there, and I was met with silence. ‘Damn it Conri! What the fuck happened!’  I screamed through my mind at him.

Squeezing my eyes shut, my hands gripped the side of the sink counter, willing him to answer me. I was met with a brick wall. I opened my eyes in defeat and stared into them through the mirror, as if they had the answer.

The more I stared at myself, the more I became angrier with myself. I had never lost control like that. EVER. I almost killed someone tonight. My fists clenched the marble counter harder. I was disgusted with myself, embarrassed by my wolf’s behavior. He tore the girl up, inside and out. I lifted my fist ready to smash the mirror in an outrage, when I noticed my blue eyes reflected my wolf, but Conri was hiding somewhere deep inside my head.

I blinked, fist still poised to smash the mirror, looking at the bright blue, glowing eyes. I dropped my fist, my face moving closer to the mirror and my other hand loosening off the counter, until my face was inches away from my reflection, and I could see the pupil of one eye.

"What the fu.." My voice trailed off as I inched closer, pulling the lid up, there was something in my eye, in both my eyes.

What ever happened tonight, whatever this… mark is, it did something to my wolf, and to me too.

I look at my pupils, the smallest and faintest of white marks. It looks like a cross? Or is it a… sword?

I should have gone in with the rest of them, it was a little on the stupid side to be out here tonight. Usually, on a night like tonight, I would be doing exactly what I knew Kellen was doing. I internally smirked.

The storm was battering, the wind shook the trees, lightning clapped, lighting up the night’s sky. A thick rumbling roll of thunder, building up like a wave, until it crashes down and shakes the ground, sending vibrations that hummed through my bones.

There was a strange sense to the storm, like it was a warning of something to come. Despite the rain and wind, the air was humid and stifling, too warm for this time of year.

I should have gone back with the rest of the pack and abandoned the run. Why didn’t I? Something wasn’t sitting right with me, so I headed out towards the pack boarder, out by the lake that Lamia, Kellen and I would hang out at after a good run. I was already in my wolf form, and my wolf, Duke, had a feeling we should be out there.

It was nearing the peak of the full moon by the time we came up on the lake. I shifted once we reached the edge. The cold rain sent a chill down my body, and I shivered, as showering drops rolled down my naked body, flattening my hair into my eyes. I reached up and brushed it from my forehead, then casting my eyes to the sky, I squinted against the lashing rain when the wind picked up. The flash of light, almost blinding as it illuminated the lake, was followed by the jolting command of thunder.

It was close. The wrath of the storm would be here soon. We hadn’t seen anything yet. It was both nerve-wracking and thrilling at the same time, the feeling of being in nature’s war path.

When I was younger, I was scared to death of storms and would always seek out Lamia for comfort. She and Kellen never made fun of me. I eventually grew out of it, but if this was me back then, this storm would have had 'little me' wetting his pants.

I dropped my hand and turned to head back to the palace, ready to call Duke forward to shift. I took one step and dropped to my knees when it felt like thousands upon thousands of tiny shards of glass ripped through my heart and were going to slice through my chest.

I howled in pain, as I doubled over, gasping for air.

Moon Goddess, what is this? I internally scream, because I can’t form any words. The pain is scorching, tearing. I rise on my knees, clutching my chest as the shards push harder and my heart constricts like it’s going to burst.

“ARGHHHH!” I cried out in pure agony, stretching my arms out to the sides, my whole body stiffening as I tensed from the pain, preparing for those sharp needles to explode from my chest at any moment.

Lightning flashes, somewhere close, I feel the electricity pulse through the ground. My eyes screw shut tight and a vision appears in place of the blackness.

If this was my last moment in time, I would die happy. The sparkling emerald eyes fill the black void in my mind, her lips are parted and a look of pure love is conveyed.

“Lamia.” I barely choked out, when the crash of thunder deafened me, it was so close.

Duke is going wild, fighting to be let lose, and fighting the pain. Clawing me from the inside, he is raging and snarling like a feral beast out for blood. I can’t take the pain. I’m ready to give in to him.

The boom renders everything silent, the quick flash of light rockets down from the heavens and everything pauses, everything happens in slow motion, the bolt of light striking my heart. The feeling of exploding and watching the flakes of embers die beneath the falling drops of water is the last thing I remember.

I awoke to several voices in my head, all calling out for me. I blinked my eyes, the sun's bright glare blinding me. I moved to sit up, rubbing my eyes. Every muscle in my body is stiff, heavy, sore. I finally find my feet, the voices still calling out to me, and I look down. My body was covered in mud, from head to toe.

*Would you all shut up! I’m fine!* I bellowed into the mind link.

At once, all voices silenced. Then the memory of last night came flooding back to me, standing in the rain, the pain, the lightning strike. Both hands instinctively flew to the area of my chest over my heart.

I wiped the mud from me in haste. I had been struck by lightning in my heart and I was standing here; Alive! I got fucking hit by lightning!

It’s never felt so good to be alive, as it did right now.

I blew out a breath as I inspected myself further, amazed that I wasn’t charred to a crisp, when I noticed a mark under the mud I was haphazardly swiping at. It was raised, I noticed, as my fingers brushed over it and when it was visible, I gasped, jaw slacking in disbelief.

A 3 inch brand of a sword sat on my skin, the coloring a few shades lighter than my natural color. I felt it again, shaking my head in confused bewilderment.

When I finally stopped inspecting it, I called Duke forward, shifted and double timed it back to the palace. When I reached, the first person I went to see was Kellen, making my way straight to his floor, mind-linking him as I went, to meet me in his room.

He opened the door, rushing me in and closing it behind him.

"Dude, some fuck up shit happened last night." I said slipping in.

"Your telling me?"
