The Delta's Daughter Chapter 378
LYRIC
"Everyone out now!" Garrison yelled, unraveling the whip from his side and cracking it through the crowd. The tip of tail, sparking with blue electricity as it crackled and whipped the air.
The club's music had halted, and the crowd parted to reveal Mike. One of the men holding me pushed me forward, grasping my hair tightly, using the length to yank me into place, and digging the taser deep into my side, wielding it like a knife.
Bodies began to scramble wanting no part of what was about to go down. Mike glared from across the room at the man that held me. Rage and a promise of death shone in his eyes and though Mikes look was full of danger and an emotion that would have most men cowering, I smiled.
His look of pure fury warmed my heart, and I knew he would destroy them all. For me.
It took only minutes for the club to empty out. Leaving Mike and I surrounded by Garrison and his two dozen or so posse of goons.
"Tell me, Swift, is this the client who hired you to steal from that box?" I still had no idea which box he was talking about. "I know it wasn't Miko, see a certain Dark Witch, who goes by the name of Shadow had Miko killed." He chuckles and growl.
"Yes. I paid her to steal." Mike says, squaring his shoulders in defiance.
I didn't know what he had up his sleeve, whatever it was I was with him one hundred percent.
"Master will not be happy. Or maybe he will, seeing as he wants the Beta." Garrison snatched my purse off my shoulder, tips it up, and emptied out the contents, never once taking his eyes off the Beta.
The decoder, a canister, and several other things fell to the floor including my father's seal that hung on a chain around his neck. Something that I assumed had been taken by Silas when he beheaded my father. The seal contained a drop of his and my mother's blood. Our packs legacy.
I had no idea why it was here, or why one would want to keep it. But it was mine. Not Garrisons or anyone else's. It belonged to my family, my pack.
Garrison picks up the ring on the chain, eyeing it with curiosity. His eyes turn to the ceiling, slightly whited over. He remains like this for a few minutes seemingly lost in his own mind. "Yes Master." He mumbles to the ceiling. When finally came back to the now, he eyes me then Mike. That dark and devious smile painting his face once more.
"Take him. Kill her." He orders. "Shadow only needs the Beta." Confirming he is indeed working with the Shadow Witch.
I had heard stories about Shadow being able to control minds. And wondered if that was what he was doing with Garrison, if that's what he had done with Twenty-Nine.
My eyes flash to Mikes whose have turned dark, his wolf coming forward. I knew right then we were about to fight for our lives. I give him a short nod, just once, letting him know silently that I'm with him.
Garrison's whip comes to life, crackling with blue light and sparks. Several other men break out tasers and cattle prods. Others with knives or swords that were hidden behind their backs.
Neither Mike nor I had weapons that could compare to what they were wielding.
Without warning Mike let's out a howling growl that shakes the walls. His eyes were completely dark with the mark of a knight. Sharp teeth protruding over his lip, claws extending from his hands, and fur sprouting across his knuckles and jaw.
I take this as my cue and pivot to the side elbowing the goon holding me and knocking his taser from his hands. We are severely outnumbered and part of me prays that Mike can unleash that same power he did when at Golden Circle.
A full-blown fight for our lives breaks out as the goons rush us both. I punch another, swing my leg out, kicking out a knee. I see Mike in my peripheral vision grab the cattle prongs of two approaching men, pulling them towards him and flipping them over his head simultaneously. Their bodies fly through air crashing into the glass bar and shattering it.
A quick smile breaks out on my face at his strength, I just hope it's enough to get us out of this situation.
I duck the sword that swings at my head, landing in the splits and plowing my fist into the guy's crotch. He drops the sword doubling over and I reach for it just in time to ram it through his chest before he can recover.
Rolling from under his dropping body I scramble to my feet and rejoin the fight. One after another they come at me and after Mike who is tossing shifters left and right as they try to capture him, electrocuting him with prods and tasers. They want him alive but me dead.
We were fighting for our lives and the hits just kept coming.
I feel the heavy force of a fist at the back of my head, leaving me to see stars. I scramble for composure, trying to shake the trauma from the blunt force off.
I reach out to my wolf asking for her strength. I was no match for the werebears and shifting would only hinder my disadvantage further.
I'm knocked to my knees, surrounded by half a dozen of Garrisons men. that's when I see the canister.
I try to crawl towards it. If I can just put my hands on it.
I'm dragged back by my ankle, and I kick out, landing a solid hit to the man's face knocking him unconscious. Quick as I can I scramble towards the canister again only for it to be knocked out of reach from shuffling feet.
I look up to see Mike, his wolf Duke fully present, claws digging into the chest of a goon and ripping his heart out.
I find the sword again, manage to get back to my feet and start whacking away at any figure that comes within arm's reach of me.
Suddenly the crack of the whip rips through the sounds of fighting and the sword is abruptly ripped from my hand. A large foot lands squarely on my chest taking all the wind out of me and forcing me to fly backwards slamming on to the floor.
'This is it' I think as I lay there trying to find my bearings. I was going to die today.
Zane's face played through my mind. I couldn't leave him. I had to get home to my boy. I knew now he would never be alone, that he would be safe under King Kellen's and Queen Lamia's protection. But he was my first thought. I couldn't leave him alone.
Not my only thought, as I turned my head. Everything was happening in slow motion. I see Mike struggling as more men pile on him, forcing him to the ground. The sharp and sudden jolts of blue flash as one after another he is hit with the prods. He falls to his knees, still fighting and clawing at his attackers. I can see they are wearing him down, pushing his wolf back as he tries to pull all his strength to fight them off. Refusing to go down easily.
Our eyes lock, I feel helpless and hopeless. I turn my head the other way waiting for a final blow to hit me and end my life when there next me lays the canister that will save us.
Rolling over, I reach out and grasp it. Checking to make sure I am still wearing my watch before I press the button, holding it down for three seconds before rolling it towards the majority of the goons that have Mike held down,
Mike growls and fights but the force of the tasers have him convulsing. Where is that enigma of light he let out against Senko?
A puff of cloudy air seeps from the canister, dissipating into the air. Just a few more seconds.
A werebear lands his knee in the middle of my back, grabbing my hair and yanking my head to the side. I screech in pain, my back strained, when a soft whistling sound whizzes through the air and the werebear that has me pinned slumps to the side letting go of me and dropping to the floor beside me.
I see the arrow stuck in his neck and know backup has arrived. Shit, I hope they didn't come in here. I crawl as fast as I can towards Mike, trying to send out a mind link to Ava and Peter *Do not enter the building I let off poison. Not enough antidote.*
I reach my Beta just as the canisters poison begins to take effect.
The goons begin to cough and grab their throats. They stumble and my limbs become weak as the poison starts to affect me, filling the room with its devastating gas. They back off from Mike, now concerned for themselves and I manage to grab his hand. "Poison." I coughed out. "The pins in my watch. Hold the antidote." I can feel my lungs being restricted, my muscles becoming stiff as the concoction of highly deadly toxic plants seeps into my body.
Maneuvering myself, I half lay on Mike. Lifting my arm, the one with the watch, which is proving difficult as my muscles become heavy rendering me stiff. I pull a pin from the watch and jab it into my wrist. My hand flopping limply once done.
I gather all my strength as Mike too, begins to splutter and blood fills his nose. "Can't breathe!" He groans with a strained voice.
I pull all the strength from my wolf that I can, as well as my own, pulling the second pin from the side of the watch and jabbing it into Mikes neck. Once done I let my body fall on his in defeat. Hoping the antidote kicks in soon as I feel Note fade away from me.
It only takes seconds or minutes before both Mike, and I begin to stir. By this time if they aren't dead, then they will be soon, the goons and Garrison are all laying on the floor. Some have already succumbed to cardiac arrest. Others are not far behind.
Mike is the first to recover, teetering to his feet and pulling me up with him. He looks around at the dead and dying shifters sprawled across the club. "Fuck Lyric, I'm not even sure I want to know what happened." He hoarsely says. "But I have never been more thankful." He swipes a hand through his short brown hair then down his face taking in the destruction.
I feel Notes presence returning and sigh out in relief. It was a close call and a reckless action. I was just thankful that I was able to prick us with the antidote in time.
Mike steps away from me and stands over Garrisons lifeless body, delivering an unnecessary swift and harsh kick.
Just then, Peter, Ava and two of the other warriors we were with came crashing through the doors, faces covered with cloth. That's when I knew Ava was smart. She had understood what I did when I managed to send the mind link.
"Holy shit that stuff really works!" She exclaims, looking around the dead bodies.
"Let's get out of here," Mike says, reaching for me. "We may leave empty handed but at least we leave with our lives tonight, thanks to Lyric."
"Empty handed?" I question, looking around for my father's seal but not finding it.
"We lost the translation and letters. Failed to retrieve them." Mike scowls as I search around some more hoping to find the ring and chain.
I laugh. "I didn't lose anything." Shaking my head from side to side. "He who have little faith."
We walked out of the nightmare of the bar, leaving the club and bank behind. The street outside is quiet in its darkness, and I lead Mike over to the side of the building where, hopefully, the bag I dropped down from inside was just behind the outside vent.
I point to the vent, "Take that off," I tell Peter, knowing I don't have my strength back yet. He yanks it off and I lean down sticking my hand in and retrieving the bag.
"See big guy! I didn't lose shit." I say to Mike giving him a shit eating grin.
He looks at me in awe and I melt under his heavy and heated gaze. "I could kiss you right now." He says and I feel myself blush because I actually wouldn't mind that. "You are just full of surprises." He chuckles.
It feels good to hear him laugh, even if it is just slight. Because truth be told I could have, almost did die tonight and they almost captured my Beta. What they wanted with him I didn't know, but it couldn't have been good.
"Garrison referred to Shadow as master, just like Twenty-Nine," I said thinking about it. "I have heard the stories how the Shadow Witch could control minds. Do you think he controlled Garrisons?"
"He had marks on him just like Jonda." Mike muses as we all walk back to the cars where the remining warriors were waiting for us.
"Do you think that's what he did to Jonda?" I ask hesitantly, "Controlled her mind?"
"Maybe." He says thoughtfully.
The ride back to my home is silent. We were meant to find a motel in the area and return to my place the next day. However, it was decided sticking around the area was not the best idea in case others or the grey ones came looking for us. So, we went back to mine for the night and would head to New Moon first thing in the morning.
By the time we got back to mine, I could honestly say I was drained. My body ached from the fight and the poison. I wasn't just physically exhausted but also mentally. I couldn't understand how Mike seemingly bounced back.
I didn't shower, I was too tired. I vaguely recall changing my clothes.
Mike didn't sleep in the bed with me as he did last night. Instead, he slept in the living room with the other warriors. Even though his scent remained on my pillows, and I admittedly snuggled up to one, breathing in his earthy smell.
I was surprised at my disappointment of not having him next to me as I crawled beneath the sheets. I wasn't surprised at Note's whimpering though. She wanted our mate, and she was ready to be claimed. I wasn't sure where I stood at this point. Did I want him?
I think I did. If missing his warmth was any testament to how my feelings had changed for the Beta, then I needed to admit to myself I had fallen for the Royal Beta.
I still found myself unsettled as my dreams were plagued with visions of my sister and her death. For once I didn't see my parents die, yet it was my sister's death that had me twisting and turning until the wee hours of the morning when I gave up trying to go back to sleep.
Tonight, was eye opener and I still felt that powerful feeling of fear consuming me. Fear for what could have happened to me. Fear for what could have happened to my mate. Fear that Zane almost lost me. Fear of the past and fear of the unwritten future.
