The Delta's Daughter Chapter 130

KELLEN

The warriors descended upon us, thirsty for blood. Hungry for a kill.

Their moves were fast and calculated, reigning down blow after blow with their steel weapons that were sharper and stronger than ours. We were at a disadvantage, but I wouldn’t let that stop me from taking down each one.

I thrust my blade in the belly of one and slashed at another, both dropping their weapons as they went down. I scooped them up and turned to meet the next attacker. Blocking his slice as I backed up to my comrades.

Thanking the Moon Goddess for all my training and sending a silent thank you to Hunji and my Uncles for training me well. My muscle memory began to kick in and the wolf side of me began to take over. The primal urge to survive: Kill or be killed.

I took down two more and watched Ajani drop one a look of triumph on his face. The rogue fought with determination and was holding his until he left his back open and a warrior went in for the kill. I was quick and dodged under Ajani only just making it as I crossed my swords like scissors, slicing the head off the warrior.

The crowd gasped and I made a grave mistake, taking my eyes off the fight and glancing at the spectators. One quick second was all it took and I heard the scream of the Omega and the thud of his knees hitting the ground.

The sword was plunged deep into his chest and the warrior who speared him grinned, pulling his sword out and then ramming it into his neck.

The scent of his blood reached my senses. I could taste his death, the coppery tones of his blood. My canines elongated and I snarled showing off my sharp teeth. A grunt from Ajani told me he was injured from the corner of my eye I could see a large gash in his forearm.

The warriors began to back up putting some distance between us and them.

“Regroup” I called out to my two remaining companions, and again stood back to back.

The eight remaining warriors dropped their weapons once a good distance away.

“What are they doing” Ajani said out loud and before I could open my mouth to tell him I had no idea, we got our answer as they all shifted into their wolves. Snarling and snapping their teeth at us as they began to circle us.

We couldn’t shift, we had to face them in our skin. I didn’t need to shift to take them down but it would have been better, teeth meeting teeth.

I watched and waited “Watch for their move, go for the neck and underbelly” I instructed.

Suddenly all eight large and menacing wolves leapt at us at once. A frenzy of fur and gnashing teeth flying at us. I slashed one right under his belly as he leaped, spilling his guts and drenching me in his blood. I rolled out the way before his limp body could fall on me.

As I lifted to my feet I caught another by the scruff of his neck and threw him as hard as I could across the arena where he tumbled in the dirt. I turned to my left, my sword meeting the neck of another wolf.

Six left. I counted. Five, Ajani just killed one. Four, the Rogue took one wolf out, his weapon cutting deep into the wolf’s shoulder, pulling it out and stabbing him in the chest. Ajani went down as the flash of white sharp teeth caught his shoulder. A grunt from the rogue had my eyes watching as claws swiped his chest.

I let out a menacing growl as I flew forward with inhuman speed, my wolf pushing forward but shifting. Like a wild rabid wolf, I grabbed the warrior wolf off Ajani’s back, one hand holding his scruff and the other plunging my sword deep through his skull. I swiveled to the side just in time as a wolf was going for the killing blow ready to rip the rogue's neck out. My arm shot out and my hand curled around the large wolf's neck, barely latching on to his windpipe before I ripped it from his neck.

The last two remaining wolves began to coward away, backing up with their tails curled under. I snatched a weapon from the ground, not caring what it was, hurling it at one wolf and charging at the other. A high-pitched whimper was heard when the blade pierced the wolf and the crunch of a neck cracking as I ripped the head off the last warrior wolf.

I stood above the last one, my chest heaving, coated in blood as I looked at my victory. My wolf was pacing in my head, ready to spill more blood. He wanted out but he was trapped. His frustration was felt and I sympathized for him, for myself.

During the fight I barely noticed the sound of the crowd, or that they were even there. But I noticed the eerie silence that had descended upon the arena, the low mumble of the crowd, the gasping whispers full of shock.

Was this not what they wanted The entertainment of a blood sport Did they not get what they came for

I felt a hand touch my shoulder and snarled at the person, turning ready to take out another wolf. “Easy, your highness” Ajani spoke calmly, wary of my wolf and the adrenalin that was still coursing through me, driving me to kill.

I have no idea what I looked like drenched in blood from head to toe, a monster A blood-thirsty wolf Something out of a horror show, maybe Because that’s what this was; a useless, unnecessary horror show.

Whatever I looked like, it gave the crowd a look of shock as they stared at me, some mouths gaped, some whispered. I took it all in as I tried to calm my beating heart and uncoil my clenched fists. My chest rose and fell heavily with the rage I felt.

I stood facing the spectators and lifted my head looking straight at The Alpha, who sat there all high and mighty on his false throne. My eyes glared daggers at him, piercing him with my loathing stare.

The same guards that escorted us in the arena came out and surrounded us, the cattle prod's sparking in warning that if I moved, I would feel the bite of them.

The rogue stood to my left and Ajani to my right. Their wounds open and seeping crimson liquid, their wounds would heal slowly, but they would live. My gaze found the Omega, his body crumpled on the blood-soaked sandy dirt. Lifeless and still.

A cruel and shameful death, the kid stood no chance. It was unnecessary, the shame not his because he fought the best he could. No, the shame belonged to the Alpha who allowed his death, who cheered his death.
