The Delta's Daughter Chapter 221
MORGAN
It had been two days on the train, I could see Hunji was restless. It must be murder for a wolf like him to have to sit still for more than a couple of hours. I could imagine he was the type of person who always liked to keep busy. I assumed this because of the way he tapped his feet impatiently. Constantly!
I, however, was loving the shit out of it. Traveling by train was a phenomenon for me. I was seeing so much of the outside world. Granted it was mostly vast landscapes, but every so often we would pass by small villages and towns. Each time I would ask my wolfman where we were or what that town was. And each time he would answer me. He was very knowledgeable and highly intelligent too.
I had figured him to be ignorant and unsociable, but in the past 24 hours, I have come to the conclusion that I was wrong about my first impression. As long as I stayed away from subjects that leaned more on the personal side, our conversations were full of life.
I even had him laughing a few times along with me. His eyes would crinkle and even though they were the deepest darkest eyes I have ever seen, I had time to observe them. Time to notice that beneath the layer of darkness - his eyes were brown. And when he laughed, they turned just a shade lighter.
Several times, I found myself stealing glances at him and not being able to tear my eyes away from him. His strong jaw is covered in days-old stubble and his long black hair is tied up in a knot. I suddenly wanted to pull his hair free and run my fingers through it. At the same time, images of his thick bristles grazing the inside of my thighs and me running my fingers through his hair pierced my mind. I felt the heat rise in my cheeks and squeezed my thighs together as warmth flooded me down there.
Hunji wasn’t looking at me, but a low growl emanated from him “Whatever you are thinking is wrong and you need to stop.” His eyes flickered to me before he got up and left the cabin. “Stay here and get rid of that smell.” He said before closing the door behind him and leaving me alone.
I lifted my arms to sniff. What smell? I know I needed to bathe, but I didn’t smell that bad. Then it dawned on me. He smelt my arousal.
“Shit,” I cursed. “Damn shifter abilities.” Attached to our cabin was a small bathroom with a toilet and basin. And when I say small, I mean like 4 x 4 feet. Enough room to do your business and wash your hands.
I opened the cabin window and then went into the small washroom because really you couldn’t call it a bathroom. I shut the door, but I kept banging my elbows and knees as I removed my dress. The water was cold as I ran a cloth over my body, but it was impossible in this cramped up space. Finally, I opened the door and begin to wash myself with the little extra room.
I’m standing here in my underwear when the cabin door opens and Hunji walks back in. “Oh!” I say trying to cover myself with my hands. “I didn’t think you would be back so soon.”
“Holy hell fire! Close the door!” He shouts at me angrily, making my already red cheeks from being caught almost naked burn even more in embarrassment. He stormed back out the way he came.
“I’m sorry, it was so cramped in there…” I started to say when he finally came back in.
“You can’t be prancing around with nothing on in front of men. Has anyone ever told you that?” He gritted with a locked jaw and scolded me.
Of course, I knew that! I’m not stupid. “Why, can’t you handle seeing a little skin? I’m sure you have seen plenty of naked women. Or are you and your wolf just that hard up that you can’t control yourselves when you see a little bit of... tits and ass? that mind you, were covered up!” I know I shouldn’t have snapped back at him. I should have kept my mouth shut; wolves were a dominant race, but I didn’t like his tone and the way he kept treating me like a child. Sure, I may not have hands-on experience at life, but that didn’t mean I didn’t know anything.
“Don’t push me, little witch!” He sneered with a little growl coming up to me so his chest was in my face and there was only a small gap between us “Keep smart mouthing and will tan that Lilly-white ass of yours.”
Fuck why did that turn me on? I licked my lips and watched his black eyes track the movement. I felt a tingle ignite over each nerve and that warmth between my legs came back and my breathing became heavier. I started up into Hunji’s glare, his nostrils flared, and his jaw clenched.
What if I just reached up and kissed him? Would he respond? I would probably make him mad. The whistle of the train startled me and the jolt of the car as the train began to slow jostled me forward right into Hunji’s arms – Pressing me, flush against his body. I widened my eyes as I felt a very large bulge pressing into my stomach.
Snapping my eyes to his, then smiled slyly once I had gotten over my initial shock. “Seems like I’m not the only one aroused. I may not smell yours, but I can clearly feel it.”
He shoved me away and went into the tiny bathroom closing the door. I silently laughed because I had a hard time fitting in there, his large frame wouldn’t even be able to turn around. I took a seat and waited for him to come out, wondering what, if anything, he would say to me.
He was older than me, by how much I wasn’t sure. That didn’t matter though, I obviously had an attraction to him. Who wouldn’t? Rugged, dark, handsome, mysterious, and strong too. I had never kissed anyone – being locked up my whole life and all that. I remember practicing on my hand or a pillow and once a little older, Margarita gave me romance books that told me about sex, some were very detailed and I found myself exploring my own body, pretending they were the heroes of the books or the lead female’s main interest. But that’s as much as I know and have experienced. Never a real kiss. And I wanted to kiss Hunji. I wanted him to kiss me.
I sighed and looked out the window seeing a sign that read ‘Buraga Station’, one of the few stops on our journey. I sat there staring out as people got off and others began to board when a strange movement caught my eye. It looked like there was some hustle and bustle happening toward the front of the train on the platform.
I didn’t pay too much attention, as it really didn’t concern me, and the train's whistle sounded once again and the crank of the pistons starting up, ground out. When I heard a few men shouting, I decided to take notice, curious as to what the shouting was about now. That’s when 'he' caught my eyes, and I ducked down quickly.
“Shit!” I scrambled towards the washroom “Hunji!” I hissed “They are here! The soldiers are here!” I was slightly panicking now and jumped back falling on my ass when the door flew open. “Get down!” I whisper yelled, scared they would see him through the window.
Not at all worried, he sauntered over to the window, half-dressed. His pants hung loose and low. His scared back and front, on full display. I wanted to touch the angry marks, to feel the raised skin beneath my fingertips, and ask him how he got them. To let my fingers, trail down his body to the deep V that ended under the band of his pants. There was one mark in particular that I was highly curious about it looked like a small brand of a sword that sat over the scars on his chest. More pronounced with a finer outlining. What did that mark mean, if it meant anything?
“We have to get off the train if they board it. Otherwise, we will have nowhere else to go.” It sounded more like he was thinking out loud than telling me, so I stayed silent, waiting for him to make a decision.
After a few seconds of what seemed like long drawn-out silence I stood and came to stand next to him by the window peering out. “Did they get on?” I asked hoping the answer is no.
“Not yet. But they will.”
“Then should we get off?” I looked up at him waiting for his answer, ready to spring into action.
“Uh-uh,” He shook his head “If we get off now, they will see us. Best to wait and see if they board. If they do, then we will wait until the train starts moving to get off.”
“What?” I asked with horror in my heart “You want us to jump from a moving train? You do realize I am not a shifter, right? I don’t heal like you lot.” Was he fricking crazy? There was no way I was jumping from a train. I would die! Or at least I’m sure I would break half a dozen bones and my face and wrist were only just healing. I pinned a glare on him.
“You will be fine” is all he offered, and I scoffed.
“Yeah OK!”
The train began to move, the deep chugging of the pistons pushing us forward. “They boarded” I barely heard Hunji grumble. “Grab the bags, we will move to the caboose and jump from there.”
My mouth gaped open; he was serious! “No, don’t be ridiculous, did you not hear me say ‘I’m not a shifter’!” My voice rose in panic and nervousness.
“I know exactly what you are,” His eyes glanced me up and down “You will be fine. I promise. Trust me.” And just like that he threw a shirt on, picked up our two bags along with his swords, and nodded his head to follow him.
Fuck my life. I almost said out loud.
Just as we neared the back of the train, a car door slid open “Hey you!” Someone shouted causing my head to snap around and Hunji close his eyes, briefly snarling. Men dressed the same as the soldiers that were after us before, appeared and Hunji shoved through the car door pushing me quickly to the back of the train until we stood on a small metal platform that had a ladder leading to the cupola up top.
The train wasn’t moving as fast as it had been during our trip, but it was gaining speed and I watched the bags hit the ground, tumbling and rolling as they did. That was going to be me in a minute. Except, when I bounced as they did, I would hear bones snapping. This was suicide.
“Ready?” I looked at Hunji who was holding out his hand.
“No, not at all,” I replied taking his hand anyway.
“Time to go little witch.” No sooner had he said that than I could hear the soldiers in the caboose car shouting at us. I closed my eyes when his arms wrapped around me, and I think I screamed when I felt a rush of sudden air surround me, and then my body thumps down hard. I kept my eyes closed; feeling us roll.
Then suddenly everything stopped moving. I cracked my eyes open to find myself on my back, Hunji’s arms still around me and his body on top of mine. His hips nestled between my legs and his face was only an inch from mine. I stared into his eyes, getting lost. The moment was gone before I knew it when he jumped up, pulling me to my feet by my hands.
“We have to move.” He grumbled in a gravelly voice.
I looked back to see the small platform we jumped from, with several of the soldiers standing on it, waving their fisted hands in the air as the train left us behind and took them further away from us. One by one they began to jump off and shift.
“Let’s go!” Hunji yelled at me. Surprisingly my legs moved, and nothing felt broken. Hunji’s shirt and pants were torn up and there were a few blood stains on him. Realizing he had taken the whole force of the impact and left me intact with not a scratch to be seen.
We ran back to the platform, across the tracks, and towards the small town. Not once did I dare glance back to see if the wolves had caught up to us. We came to a stop outside a stone stable attached to a house. I followed behind, my hand still tightly grasped in his as he pulled me inside the stables. He quickly went into one of the stalls and came out with handfuls of…
“Oh, my gods that’s… disgusting!” I gagged as he began to rub horse shit over himself.
“Oh, you are really going to hate this then.” He smiled and came at me with the remaining shit in his hands.
“No! No!” I began to back away, but he was faster and smeared shit right over my clothes. The stench was stifling and so gross. I again began to gag at not only the smell but the fact I was now covered in horse manure. I cringed and made a whining sound, appalled that he had done this to me.
“Now they won’t scent us.” He said, assumably seeing the look on my face and the way I held my arms out in repugnance.
“There was no other way?” I huffed at him.
“No.” He replied with a serious look on his face, dark eyebrows in a deep vee.
“Hey what are you two doing in here?” A short balding man shrieked at us.
“Pardon me, sir, I was looking to buy a horse. Do you have one available?” Hunji replied to the man who stood there taking in our appearance, his lip turning up in revulsion at our smell.
“You got money?” He was skeptical and I didn’t blame him.
“Yes,” Hunji then dug in his bag, bringing out a sack of coins. “Will this buy us a decent horse?” He asked holding out a handful of gold Andorian coins mixed with another kingdom’s coins.
“That would do quite nicely, for that I can give you one of our good ones.” He replied.
“With what I am paying you, you could buy another two horses.”
“Aye that’s true,” The man gestured with his head to follow him across the stable where he stopped outside a stall. A large horse’s head popped over the stall’s door and huffed through his nose. He was so big and so beautiful!
My eyes lit up when the man led him out by his harness, or bridal I think they call it. “Wow,” I said looking the magnificent beast up and down. “He is beautiful!” I reached my hand out to touch him.
“She,” Hunji said, taking the reins from the man. “Thank you, sir,”
“She was just rode in, comes with a saddle too, right there.” He pointed to a saddle laying over the edge of the stall. “You bought her, you saddle her.” He said turning away and occupying himself at another stall.
“You can ride?” I asked Hunji “I didn’t think shifters, especially werewolves and horses did well with each other. Something about them sensing your beast?”
He chuckled “Very true, most wolf shifters do not get along with horses. Our counterparts scare them. Horses are overly sensitive to feelings and spook easily. Where I grew up though, was quite different and we used horses on a daily basis. We were taught to understand them, and our wolves are taught to rein in their prey drive and be calm with them.”
“That’s really amazing,” I said, truly impressed. “Obviously, I have never ridden a horse, but I have always wanted to,” I admit.
I had a whole list of things I wanted to do and try. Ok more like a whole journal with every page filled with the things I wanted to try and the places I wanted to go.
“I have a feeling once I take you home, I will introduce you to the King of werewolves’ mate. You and she would get on famously. Like you, she was sheltered from a lot, but maybe not to the same extent as yourself.”
I would like that,” I smiled while petting the horse and Hunji put her saddle on and attached the bags.
“I will climb on first, then you climb on behind me. Hold on tight to my waist, I don’t want you falling off back there.”
