The Delta's Daughter Chapter 187
DAY 19 of The Games
TALA
My heart was broken, shattered into pieces, my wolf had not stopped whimpering and I had not stopped sobbing. The pain I felt was indescribable. I felt his life end, his essence fade and I felt it to my very core. Maybe because Kellen hadn’t marked me and the mating process wasn’t complete, was why my soul had not ripped in two.
Maybe that was the reason I was still alive. But not for long, the air in this box was running out and my breaths had become shallow. How long had I been in here I didn’t know.
All I knew was that I had lost my mate before I even knew him, but that didn’t lessen the love I felt for him. All the hope I had, died that night. All that effort and planning for nothing; was wasted on a whim. The Moon Goddess had taken him from me just as fast as she had given him. I could never forgive her.
I had been locked up in a small metal coffin-sized box. Jack had dragged me down here as soon as my father gave the command for Kellen to be whipped. I had begged and pleaded for mercy knowing this would be a torturous experience and the end of me. I had seen my father use this method of torture before. Others had only lasted a day or two at the most when put in the hot box.
I just wanted to lay here and die. There was no point in living if I couldn’t share that life with my soul mate.
I had tried to mind-link Jasper and Eloise, but my wolf was weak and they seemed to have their blocks up. Or the hot steel box was preventing me from communicating with them. I wiped my face of the now dried and crusted tears. I had no more to give. The heat had dried me up and dehydrated me to the point that I couldn’t even sweat.
The image of Kellen being hung from the wall flashed before my eyes and I cringed grasping my chest as a hot and sharp burn flared through my heart. The sound of the first crack of the whip echoed in my mind and my wolf whimpered at my thoughts again.
I heard footsteps approaching and stilled my heavy body listening to the steps get closer. The clang of a lock rattled and the lid to the sweltering box opened. I squinted my eyes at the dim light and gulped in the fresh air. Two guards stood over me, ones I didn’t recognize.
“You have been summoned by the Alpha” one of them said not even able to look me in the eye. I glanced at the other whose hands moved and I noticed the gesture he made, crossing his pinkies. They hauled me up out of the box, my stiff limbs aching and my legs shaking from lack of hydration.
I was dragged back into the palace from the back of the gardens, neither of the guards saying a word and I couldn’t say anything as my lips were parched and my throat was as dry as the barren lands outside our walls. I didn’t react, I couldn’t. I had nothing left, I felt nothing but numb. Vargr could do whatever he liked he already killed me. I was but a shell. The question was, why had he kept me alive Why not leave me in the box to die Whatever the reason was, it could not be good. Vargr is a monster, which just means he has something worse to torture me with.
Vargr was waiting for me in his office, along with Jack, Oliver, and Beta Baron. They had a battered and bruised Teal kneeling in the center of the floor. I cast each one of them a hateful glance, willing them to burst into flames. Then I looked at Teal whose eyes caught mine for but a moment.
The look of defeat and sadness had my heart fluttering in fear.
I cried out when Vargr grabbed me by the hair and yanked me back until I was kneeling in front of Teal. Where was Jasper Was the only thing I could think of when I tried to look around and read the room.
“Fucking ungrateful whore!” Vargr growled out, his words full of venom and hate. The slap was brutal, my head jerking to the side and I could taste the metallic blood from my split lip. I wanted to spit the blood out in his face, but instead, I licked the coppery liquid, the moisture on my tongue feeling warm.
I wasn’t a coward, but I wanted to live. At least to see his downfall.
I saw Teal flinch, reacting to the scent of my blood that had coated my bottom and lip. He said nothing; he knew it could get worse. Him, having an outburst would do nothing, neither of us were in a position to do much.
“I gave you a chance,” Vargr ranted while pacing the room, “I was going to make you Jaspers Luna because you held Alpha blood. But just like your good for nothing mother you fucked shit up!” His voice raising an octave or two, as he worked himself and his wolf up, “No matter, King Panja has a daughter. You have been replaced.” He took a few paces away from me before abruptly turning back around and getting in my face again.
“You were never really my daughter,” He said with disgust “Did you ever wonder why I favored Jasper and hated you You would have married my son.” He began laughing, while I found none of this humorous and refused to give him any reaction. He had just told me Jasper was his son. I cast a side glance at Beta Baron, at first glance he looked unfazed but a closer look would show you how he was holding his wolf back. He was just as much a victim as everyone else.
“I’m feeling generous,” Vargr clapped his hands together. “I fucking love a family reunion! Before you die are there any last words you would like to say to your now slave daughter” Vargr then laughed, insinuating that I would become a slave, in Teal's face and Jack yanked my hair again, making me look up at him.
“Tell daddy you love him, because… It’s me you will be calling daddy later.” He smirked, licking his lips like the disgusting predator he is. All the air left my body when Jack slithered those words out, his tone holding a promise.
Goddess, please no. I closed my eyes as any strength left in my body evaporated in that second. Please goddess; don’t let him give me to Jack. Let me die now. I have seen Jack's handy work. What he did to my mother was nothing, child’s play compared to what he is capable of. I glanced at Oliver, unable to read his expression but gave Jack a narrowed looked of displeasure.
“My name is Teal Mac-Tire, Alpha of the Sea Dogs pack and knight of the Red Branch, my wolf is Cuchulinn, who lives to serve his king Conri and he will be reborn. Tala Mac-Tire you are my daughter and I love you.” I looked into Teal's eyes; he had already accepted his death. I had not.
“GODDESS NOOO!” I wailed, screaming and sobbing, trying to get away when without warning Vargr plunged a knife into the back of Teal's head and his clawed hand, simultaneously punched a hole into the front of his chest ripping his heart out.
