The Delta's Daughter Chapter 252
HUNJI
PRESENT DAY
“AND SWITCH!” The new recruits scramble to switch positions as we work through an exercise for hand-to-hand combat. I’m leading one group while Tobias leads another. At the end of the week, we will have them face off against each other. A little competition to get their blood pumping, not telling them Tobias and I have a side bet going on whose team would have more wins.
“Alright, that’s enough!” I bellow out watching them all break from their opponents with huffs and sighs of relief. I really did work them hard today. The sweat dripping off them and the red faces prove how hard they worked.
“Commander Hunji,” A she - Lycan by the name of Tilda approaches me, wiping the sweat from her brow. The short crop top and cycle shorts she wears hides nothing of her tall and thin frame. She swishes her ponytail, wrapping a finger around the blonde strands. “I was wondering if you offered one on one personal training so I could better my defense form.”
She bats her blue eyes at me, her long dark lashes fluttering. A very pretty girl. “I don’t.” I give her the two-word answer and bend down to pick up my clipboard and bag of colored vests. She stands there in the same position but now cocks a hip out.
I let my eyes trail up her until my gaze meets hers. “Was there anything else Tilda?” I ask her, already turning away to head back to my room and shower. I wait for a beat and when she doesn’t answer I turn to walk away.
“Actually, yes.” She rushes out. Her hand nabbed my elbow to halt me from leaving. “Do you think maybe you would like to take me out on a date?”
I blink back to my surprise. Tilda is probably around 21 – 22 years old. Again, a very attractive girl. But not my girl. “Sorry, Tilda I don’t date.” Telling her the truth and watching the light in her eyes dim, with disappointment.
“Oh.” She says, “I just thought seeing as I don’t have a mate and I heard you don’t, maybe…” She trails off and I suddenly feel annoyed. Lycans can wait a whole lifetime before they find their mate if they are ever given one. Usually, they would find them on a full moon. Or they could take a chosen mate on a full moon. This girl was too young to state she didn’t have a mate. I came to the conclusion she just had a silly crush on me.
“You are very young, Tilda. You have your whole life to find a mate. Don’t be in such a rush.” I turn then throw over my shoulder “Now go hang out with kids your own age.” I offer her a smile before leaving her.
I shake my head with a slight smile as I walk back up the hill to the castle. Lamia had really outdone herself with designing the training fields. It was a warrior’s dream when it came to hardcore training. “So, you ready for Friday?” Tobias slaps me on my back. I turn and scowl at him.
“Why what’s happening Friday?” Fein confusion.
“Duh, our first soirée here at Riocht. Lamia and Mathias figured the kids were old enough that they could host a party. Everyone is coming.” He talks excitedly. Tobias - always the life of the party. Both he and Mike Pike.
I had forgotten about the party. Actually, I had put it to the back of my mind. Ever since I had gotten back it had been nonstop around here catching up and filling in for Lamia and King seeing as they had their hands full with three infants. “Whose everyone?”
“Shit, Xander is coming down with Ria, Finn, and his sister. I hear the witch is hot as shit!”
A threatening growl leaves my throat and I spin around catching him by the throat. “You will stay away from her!” I spit at him, Ruda at the forefront.
“Ok! Fuck man, who pissed in your oats this morning?” He steps back out of my grip with hands up in front of him “Shit, I didn’t know you were so defensive over her.”
I didn’t realize it either. But Tobias is man-whore, and I didn’t want him anywhere near her. Apparently, neither did Ruda. “Yah well now you know.”
“Always so defensive,” He snapped pushing past me and walking in front.
I take a minute to calm down. Reaching out to my wolf. It had been almost three months since the blood moon. Saturday would be the third full moon from that night. My choices had been playing on my mind ever since Mathias told me we could reject the bond. I honestly didn’t want to. But it wasn’t up to me, it was Morgan’s decision.
I had avoided anything to do with the Kodiak Kingdom and her, only because I was a coward. I knew if I talked to her, I would have to tell her we had the option to try and sever the connection. I haven’t because I didn’t want her to agree to do it. I suppose I needed to man up. Saturday would be a good night, the only night, to do it. I at least had to give her the choice.
Lately, my dreams had been filled with images of her beneath me, as I made love to her. Her glowing violet eyes consumed my thoughts day and night. Why hadn’t I done anything about it? As I said. I’m a coward. scared of being rejected, of not being good enough for her, of being betrayed just as Divya did to me. I wasn’t good enough for Morgan and I wasn’t completely sure if her brother would kill me or not. Yet so many times I find myself back to my old ways of taking care of myself, jerking off in the shower to Morgan’s image, with her name on my lips. This time though I actually have the experience to base it off of.
*****
I’m a bag of nerves as we wait for Xander to mentally connect to Mathias, letting him know they have crossed the border to Riocht’s kingdom. I wondered how Morgan would handle driving through Morngord Forest if was as haunted as people claim.
Ruda was making everything worse, his consistent pacing back and forth in my mind.
It was very early Friday morning; the sun hadn’t even come up. They left the Clan Mansion Thursday morning and should be arriving soon. I had no idea what I would say when I saw Morgan. I had never felt this nervous and anxious in my whole life, about anything.
“Just relax,” Lamia tells me, offering a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“Easy for you to say" I grumble, getting up from the sofa in another parlor this castle had. Riocht was spacious and large with many, many rooms, but still, it was tiny in comparison to MacTire.
“Travis is bringing Petra with him, but Rhett won’t be able to make it. He is off building enforcer units across the MacTire Kingdom and empire.” Lamia tells me, obviously trying to take my mind off of things. “Mike and Kellen are taking a pass with Tala only weeks from her due date.”
She was due in less than two months now. Which meant it had been over four months since Kellen came back home from his enslavement in Bhakhil.
Just the sound of little cries reached my ears as Lamia’s mother, Vivian and her father Delta Marcus came in carrying the triplets. I reached to take one of the boys from Delta Marcus’s arms. Looking down at the small boy, seeing his bright grey eyes. This was Zachary, the firstborn. Marcus handed Tobias the second-born son, Maximus. Mathias snatched up the little girl Amali, from Lamia’s mother. Both boys had bright silver eyes like their father. Amali had silver eyes to but with a bright ring of green which made them look unnatural but unique and beautiful.
Holding them made me think of Sonia and Rostam, and my nephew and namesake Kian. “Uncle Hunji is going to spoil all three of you, but only if you work hard on the training field for me,” I whisper to little Zachary.
I rocked him back and forth when suddenly in the distance we heard a series of explosions go off. I immediately mind-linked patrol in that area.
*Report* I commanded.
*Explosions on the northwest border commander.*
“Xander just linked me, they are under attack” Mathias growled out. I handed the child back to Marcus as quickly and gently as I could and took off running with inhuman speed, shifting as soon as I reached outside.
The only thought running through my head – Morgan.
Thirty minutes later, Mathias, Tobias, and I, come barreling through the forest, reaching the tree line and shifting into our skin forms to find 50 or so men attacking their convoy. Another set of explosions goes off, shooting out silver ball bearings. They deploy from the device, exploding like a claymore and firing hot silver fragments in every direction.
Ruda scents the air. Through the smell of smoke and scents of man and blood, he catches another scent. Something wild and soft. Yet so sweet like honeysuckle.
“Finn!” We hear our little witch call out.
Ruda overtakes - rage burning through him like molten lava. Coiling tight around my own inferno. Our primal instinct to protect takes over. The mark on my chest burns and I know I am pulling power from my wolf as I let out a feral and savage growl, a growl that shook the air.
“MATE!” he roars through me!
At the same time, Mathias’ commanding roar brings the fight to a halt, and we hear men yelling out commands and begin running.
They scramble and fish dirt bikes out from the side of the road. Scrambling like rats in a sewer. Tobias takes off after the fleeing men. Mathis rushes toward his warriors where they lay, dead and injured from pieces of an exploding car hitting them. As I rush towards the heavenly scent - my eyes open for Morgan. I see Finn covered in a thick net.
I’m Torn. To help Finn or find Morgan.
‘MATE’ Ruda growls at me.
I head towards Finn. He is closer and if there is still a fight to be had – it would be better if he was in it. I could scent Morgan, and knew she was still here, right on the other side of that car that I glance at as I rush to aid Finn. The net is burning right through his beast fur and into its flesh, the smell horrendous.
I pull the net and immediately let go. My hands burning.
Finn’s beast roars in agony and shifts to his human form. He would have been better to stay as his beast. “Get it the fuck off me!” Finn screams.
I grab the net again, trying to ignore the burning smell of my flesh as well as the pain that came along with it. Giving it everything I have I manage to pull the heavy net from over Finn. My hands burnt to the bone. I don’t have time to lick my wounds.
As soon as Finn is free of the contraption, Ruda and I are latching onto the sweet scent again. Leading us straight to Morgan.
I find her knocked out. Needing a doctor. Her white hair – pink - with blood seeping from her skull. I bend down and pick her up, cradling her petite frame in my arms. Ruda is whining – repeating ‘mate, mate,’ Over and over.
How can this be?
‘I choose her.’ Ruda sternly announces. As my fingertips run against her soft skin, the beginnings of tingles ignite each digit.
‘I don’t understand,’ I ask my wolf.
‘I don’t care. She is ours. We are hers.’ He declares.
“We need medics! Over here!” I yell out when warriors of Riocht arrive on the scene.
Where’s Xander?” I hear Ria groan next to us.
“Don’t move Ria, the medics are here.”
“I need Xander, where is he?” She’s starting to panic and become frantic.
“He’s okay, just don’t move and wait to be checked out,” I calmly tell her she nods her head, rubbing the side as if it hurts. “Did you get hit in the head I ask her, looking back down at Morgan who is still in my arms. I won’t leave her for anything.
“Yeah, something hit me, just after Morgan was almost dragged away. Thank the gods she is still here!”
“Thank gods you both are.” A medic reaches us and starts to tend to Ria. I stand up, Morgan still in my arms. I can hear multiple vehicles coming down the road. Large – Transport vehicles. Ours.
“Who the fuck were they?” I ask, seething as I find Mathias kneeling over his brother. Holding his hand.
“Ria is fine, she has a knock to the head. I promise.” King tells Xander. “Xander you’re going to be fine.”
“Fuck it hurts,” Xander growls back.
Upon closer inspection, I see Xander has a tourniquet made from a belt. His left leg missing. Sliced clean off.
“Commander, let me take her from you. She needs medical attention.” I turn snarling and growling at the warrior who just put his hands on Morgan. My fangs elongate and Ruda shows in my eyes.
“Don’t touch her!” I growl out.
“Hunj, man, let them take her” Tobias is trying to sound reasonable right now but I’m not listening. All I see is another man who wants to take her away from me.
“Touch her and I will fucking kill you” I threaten Tobias, without reason.
“Hunji. Give me my sister. Or I will kill you.” Finn stands to my right and holds his arms out for Morgan.
“MINE” I snarl back at Finn.
“Shit,” Is all he says.
“Hunji, ride back with her in the transport truck,” King commands me and I carry her to one of the trucks and climb in, placing Morgan on one of the portable beds. It takes everything I have not to rip the medic apart as the door close and begins to check her over.
My hands are trembling along with the rest of me. My wolf crouches in my mind, stalking every inch of Morgan’s body with my eyes. The pull to her is so strong. I don’t understand it. It’s far stronger than the bond I had with Divya.
“Good news, it doesn’t look like any lasting damage” The medic informs me and sits back on the bench next to me. “She defiantly has a concussion and might me out until the morning. She will need to stay in the hospital.”
My hand automatically clasps Morgan’s again, once the medic is out of the way the need to touch her, is so immense. As soon as I feel her skin under my fingers - both Ruda and I begin to calm. The shaking dissipates.
We make it to the hospital where they put Morgan in a room and a female doctor comes in to check her out. I stay by her side, eyes on her at all times. When they wheel Finn in, on a bed and place him next to her. Angry burn lines cover his skin in the shape of a net.
*Hunji, we need you back in the castle.* Lamia’s command filters through my head.
*I’m staying here.* I defy her command.
*Finn is staying with her. Now get your ass back here* She commands again. I have no choice but to obey here, no matter how much I don’t want to.
“She’s fine. I’m here brother” Finn growls out, wincing with the growl.
I stomp my way out of the hospital wing and run down the dirt road and to the castle. I find Lamia, Tobias, Delta Marcus, and a few other warriors in a parlor.
“Where is King?” I ask noticing his absence.
“He’s with Xander and Ria,” Tobias scrubs a hand over his face. “Xander lost his leg tonight. Their whole convoy was taken out and as you saw Finn was also severely injured.
“Any idea who they were?” I eye the room.
“They smelled like humans, but they moved with shifter speed...”
“Hunters” Lamia finished Tobias’ sentence.
“Not all of them.” Tobias pointed at the Queen some of them shifted into wolves and ran for it. I didn’t get a chance to catch one alive.” I shook his head, upset that he didn’t have one of the attackers to question. This affected Tobias just as much as it did King. Tobias was basically a brother to them both. Their mother practically raised Tobias.
I didn’t need to ask about Ria, I knew she was okay, but I was still concerned “Has anyone contacted Rhett?” Rhett would want to know about this, he would want to be here.
“As soon as I found out he was the first one I contacted” Lamia answered me, taking a seat on one of the cream couches. “Fuck this is a mess,” She slams her fist down onto the arm of the couch in frustration, blowing a strand of strawberry blonde–black streaked hair from her eyes. “The doctors told me Morgan would be okay and Finn has sustained injuries?”
“Yes, it looked like the net had been woven with silver fibers and soaked in wolfsbane and probably nightshade.” I look down at my hands as I tell her this. The skin has only just begun to knit together, the poison slowing down the process.
“Shit, man, your fucking hands!” Tobias swiftly leaves the room. Returning a few minutes later with a first aid kit. “Let me treat them and wrap them up for you.”
I’m in no mood for arguing so I sit down, and I hold my hands out for him to dress the wounds. “My wolf called Morgan out as my mate tonight.” I fill the silence as we all sit there, our minds on tonight’s disaster.
“We need to cancel the party for tomorrow. Let all surrounding Alphas that were invited know exactly what happened tonight. I’m pretty sure Xander’s convoy was targeted. I don’t want anyone else taking the chance and leaving their packs. This was a planned attack, and the fuckers weren’t playing around.” Lamia takes a breath and I wait because she always has something else to say once she has thought about it. She is a strategist, taught by the best. Her Father. “Send trackers out to see if can pick up a scent and trace them. I want these fuckers found.”
“Yes, your highness,” both Tobias and I say in unison.
“Hunji, I understand you are eager to get to Morgan.” She gives me a sympathetic look “However, Morgan is not in immediate danger, I need you to do your job.”
Her words echo in my head. ‘I need you to do your job’
‘Your job is to protect the chosen one. How can you do that if your mind is on someone else’s well-being.’ Ashe and Asena’s words cut through me.
I reason with my wolf, telling him Morgan is okay, and she is safe until he is calm enough to realize that we had to carry out our duties to our Queen. He resolved and simmered taking a semi-backseat in my mind for now.
Once my hands were wrapped the three of us went our separate ways to go and delegate orders and start a manhunt for the hunters and wolves who attacked the convoy.
