Tobias was just dribbling crap now and flung my head around giving him a stern look and a shake of my head.

This was a touchy subject for Hunji and Tobias was crossing a line. The last thing I needed was for these two to go all claws and teeth. Because in all fairness, even though Tobias was a hulking male and a bear shifter, I had seen them both fight and my money would be on Hunji. He was just that much more skilled, plus, aside from Kellen, he was the only other wolf I had seen put Lamia on her ass.

Thankfully Tobias took the hint and shut his mouth and the rest of the 20min drive was quiet.

“Let’s grab some lunch first, then we can seek out this Jonda chick,” I suggested as we pulled into town and my stomach growled. It was still early, not quite noon yet, but I had skipped breakfast and well, a shifters metabolism is fast and we can always eat.

We found a small diner not far from the main loading dock and overlooked the main strip on the docks. The hostess sat us in a booth by the window. The small town was quaint with brick buildings that looked old, yet had a certain charm to them. Newer warehouses had been erected at some point and they were made with a metal covering. And the smell of saltwater, fish, and brine assaulted your senses.

I looked at the menu, ready to get some grub in me but scrunched my face up when all I saw was tuna, shrimp, crab, and some other fish.

“What’s wrong pretty boy” Tobias asked, “You don’t like fish”

“No, not really, I’m more of a meat and potatoes kind of guy.” I glanced over the menu again at the breakfast choices that I hoped they were still serving. “What the fuck are grits”

Tobias laughed at me, a deep chuckle, and then reached across the table and turned my menu over. I smiled when I saw the title ‘classic burger’. Thank fuck for that. I guess I could never be a sailor, I just wasn’t into fish.

The waitress came and took our drinks and food orders, as we sat there my wolf started to stir, pacing in my head like he was waiting for something, and the wait was making him anxious.

‘What ya got Duke’ I asked my wolf, he didn’t pace unless there was a good reason.

‘Gut feeling, I think we are in the right place’ He told me, I had the same feeling, like I was meant to be here like something drew us here. Remembering Hunji’s words Trust your gut, trust your wolf.

Shortly after our food came out, my eyes were wide with greed when the loaded double bacon cheeseburger was placed in front of me. I looked at Tobias’ plate that held some kind of fish steak, fries, and some creamy-looking goo, then I looked at Hunji’s. His plate was piled with shrimp, muscles, and some green vegetation in a white sauce. It looked gross and slimy.

I must have made a sound, as mid-bite Hunji looked up at me “What’s your problem”

“That.” I pointed to his plate “It looks… gross.” He shrugged his shoulders and shoved the food in his mouth.

“You think this is gross, you should have seen what ate where I grew up.” He gave me one of his rare smirks, a twinkle in his eye “I think you would have thrown up if you had to eat at my mother’s table.”

I cocked my head, my eyebrows pulling together slightly, it was the first time I had ever heard Hunji mention his mother or even where he came from. So it took me by surprise. Kellen and I had always joked that Hunji wasn’t born, he didn’t have a mother or father, he had just become.

Of course, Tobias hadn’t known Hunji long enough, so he didn’t know Hunji rarely, in fact never talked about his past, and he didn’t know Hunji had killed his mate. Nobody knew why, it was just something he had come out with when he was talking to Tawny. We had all seen the scars on his chest but nobody ever brought it up.

I had always wondered why, if his mate had betrayed him, why he didn’t just reject her, break the bond, instead of killing her. I mean that’s one way to break a bond but it’s almost like suicide if you have marked and mated.

A marked mate’s betrayal against the bond will cause your wolf to claw your heart out, if you or your mate is unmarked, then the betrayal that’s felt is nothing more than a burning sensation in your chest and stomach, I mean it’s no picnic but distance and time can temper that pain down. So I have heard. But a fully mated pair will definitely feel the effects of their mate cheating and if you kill your mate the chances of you surviving are pretty slim. It has always made me curious, what exactly had Hunji been through

He was the big brother of the group, our mentor and we all looked up to him. The waitress pulled me from my thoughts “You boys need anything else” She asked, playing with her blonde ponytail and smiling sweetly at all of us, her eyes lingering on Tobias a little longer.

“Actually yeah,” I cleared my throat and wiped my hands on my napkin. “We are looking for a woman named Jonda.”

The waitress's smile dropped and her hand stopped fidgeting with her hair, her blue eyes narrowing. “What do you want with her Is she in trouble”

“Nope, no trouble, a friend of mine, Ella said she maybe be able to help us.”

“Oh, in that case, you are in luck. She came into town last night, staying over at the B&B, but she is probably holed up in Edgar’s office right now.” Her whole demeanor changed back to cheery and flirty once she realized this Jonda chick wasn’t in trouble.

“And where can we find Edgar” I asked. She pointed to one of the metal warehouses, round back they have offices, and his is around there.

Hunji stood from the table, thanking the girl and dropping a few bills on the table. Leaving a hefty tip, we made our way out of the diner and headed over to Edgar's office. Edgar was a businessman and controlled most of the trade ships here. I had never met him but I knew my father had. I had heard his name.

We found Edgar's office easily, The three of us walking in, came to a stop when we heard the harsh cut of a woman’s words.

“I have told you before if you don’t have your paperwork filled out we aren’t delivering… No thank you, your puny dick cannot make a deal… You’re a pig, you threaten to put that shriveled limp stick of yours anywhere near me and I will cut it off… Try talking this shit to my brother and see where it gets you!”

The slam of a phone could be heard followed by a frustrated groan mixed with a growl. I smiled, I didn’t know who this chick was, but I liked her already, Her harsh, no-bullshit attitude and her confident tone had me and my wolf a little excited. I wondered if her face would excite me just as much, or if she would be a butterface. (Everything’s nice but her face).

“Hello,” Tobias called out smirking as he had heard the same thing as me, Was he also thinking the same thing as me

“Yeah, I’m coming” Her voice rang out with a little less annoyance, but it was still present.

I had to steady myself and took a sharp breath when the owner of the voice came around the corner into the front entrance of the office.

She was absolutely gorgeous! Her chestnut hair lay in silky layers and my hand itched to reach out and touch it, just to feel its smooth texture fall through my fingers. My gaze wandered over her body, from head to toe, taking in the tight ripped jeans that molded to her legs and red blouse that tucked in at her slim waist, accentuating her breasts that were full and needed my hands to massage them.

Finally, my gaze landed on her eyes, those dark hazel shinning orbs that said ‘come fuck me,’ called out to me. Her perfect creamy skin tempted me to lick her and her pink lips looked soft, their fullness urging me to bite them and stain them red. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen and my wolf was instantly attracted to her, as was I.

But she was not my mate. Still, the urge to take her in my arms was strong and I glanced at her neck, unmarked.

“We are looking for Jonda” Hunji broke the static silence, but I couldn’t take my eyes off her.

“I’m Jonda, what do you want” She asked, still her deep hazel eyes held mine, it was like we couldn’t tear our eyes away from each other.

She licked her lips as she took me in, and I felt like a piece of meat, I smiled because I liked the thought of her wanting to devour me. Did I make her feel like the most delicious dessert because that’s what she looked like in my eyes And oh did I want to taste her, to lick her slow, from head to toe, like my favorite ice cream.
