The Delta's Daughter Chapter 195
KELLEN
More of Vargr’s army had turned up and we were now engaged in a full-on battle. Metal clanked, and growls were heard as some of the opposition began to shift, their wolves attacking my Gladiators who could not shift.
“We’re outnumbered!” I heard Jasper call to me from my left.
I cut down a soldier his body dropping like a heap of rocks and darted my eyes around the arena. He was right, we were outnumbered. I smirked because even though it looked like we were at a disadvantage, I knew we could win this. “Maybe, but his army doesn’t have the skill my elites have.”
I looked to Rogue who was on my right, fighting beside me. “Rogue, keep the Gladiators fighting with the non-shifted,” I yelled to him while plunging my sword into another soldier's chest, knowing that the Gladiator's chips were still active and they couldn’t shift or else they would die.
“Hunji!” I called to the man in red, who was taking down man after man and dropping wolves like they were vermin. “Show these soldiers what an Elite army can do!” I thought fast and began to redirect our troops strategically.
“Yes, your highness, with pleasure.” And the fucker actually smiled and rushed forward calling out commands to ours and Jasper’s fighters, knowing exactly what I was thinking, after all, it was Hunji who had trained me back at the academy. We were lucky to have a man of his skill and experience fighting alongside us.
Just then I heard the howl of a female wolf. I felt a tightness grab my chest and my heart sped up in fear. ‘Mate’ Conri growled, I didn’t need him to confirm it, in my heart I already knew it was her wolf who had called out. My mate needed me and she was close. I saw Jasper freeze, his eyes locked on mine for a second, wide and fearful.
"Tala" That one word, made me shiver. When the growl of a much larger wolf each our ears "Fuck Vargr has Tala!" No. I would not let him hurt her again. I thought.
*Mike, I’m going for my mate. I don’t see Vargr but kill him on sight if you get to him before me* I linked him when I didn’t see him. Then called out to Hunji that I was going for Tala.
Without another second to waste, I took off in the direction I had heard the howl of my mate's wolf, tearing down anyone who got in my way. I bounded up the stone steps that led to the courtyard, the same ones I had descended not so long ago. Reaching the top in seconds I saw a large brown wolf looming over a smaller red she-wolf at the other end. He had her cornered and looked ready to attack.
My mate. Her red fur was just as bright as Tala’s hair.
My heart stopped for a second when the red wolf stood on all fours and growled at the much larger brown wolf. He was big, Alpha size, this must be Vargr.
“HEY!” I yelled running forward to catch his attention. The brown wolf halted and turned its head towards me. Saliva dripped from his muzzle and the red wolf leaped onto him digging her teeth into his shoulder. He knocked her off with a harsh shake and had the time to give me a wolfish grin before his hind legs came up and kicked the red wolf so hard she hit the wall. The small wolf slumped down the wall and lay there with labored breathing.
I felt frozen, unable to move an inch, worried about my mate as she lay there unmoving. That fear quickly turned to anger and a storm full of endless rage built inside me. And I was ready to unleash that fury onto the brown wolf.
The Alpha wolf shifted when I was 20 feet from him and there stood Vargr in all his glory. It really wasn’t a nice sight to see. An older Alpha who had let himself go. I stopped when he began to laugh. My eyes were still on the little red wolf behind him who moved she seemed to be ok other than getting knocked out and now coming to.
“Vargr” I hissed.
“Wolf King, it surprised me that you had lived, but you are still the underdog in this fight” He chuckled.
“Is that so” I questioned him, ready to tear this fuckers head off. “Then fight me like an Alpha and we will see who the underdog is.”
“Fight you” He laughed “I don’t need to fight you to win.” He laughed again. “SHIFT” He commanded me and my wolf.
He still thought my inhibitor chip was active Stupid fool “I don’t think you want me to shift.” I said trying to hide my wry smile.
“SHIFT” He commanded again, with a little scowl.
“I had hoped to make you suffer, but you leave me no choice if you insist on me shifting,” I smirked.
“I SAID SHIFT!” Vargr was becoming more perplexed by the second and it was only fueling his and his wolf's anger. It was obvious I was ignoring his command, he should have had an inkling then when he had to repeat himself. He visibly began to shake with rage before he himself shifted back into his wolf. And lunged towards me.
Within seconds I had shifted into Conri. His silver fur glistened under the light of the moon and his giant form flew up to meet Vargr’s much smaller wolf in mid-air. Claws and teeth locked as we tumbled to the ground and rolled.
If Vargr thought this was going to be an easy fight for him then he must have definitely lost a few loose screws somewhere along the line. We broke apart and I could see his wolf tremble with fear when he looked up at Conri who bared his teeth and snapped at him. Yet the fool still came at us, snapping his jaws and wildly growling, looking like a rabid animal.
Conri thought about ending him in one swift move but changed his mind at the last second and whirled around knocking him over with his butt. Vargr’s wolf got up snarling and challenged us again.
‘End this Conri’ I told my wolf, wanting this shit show to be over so we could get to our mate who I could see was stirring from behind Vargr’s wolf.
‘With delight’ he replied with a cheesy growl.
The brown wolf was waiting for us to make the first move, so Conri stalked forward, teeth showing and a low rumble from his chest. The wolf crouched and then attacked. Conri caught him mid-air, latching onto his neck, and violently shook him tearing chunks of fur and flesh as he did.
We threw the Vargr to the ground where he stayed, not attempting to move like the weak pathetic shit he is. My wolf lorded over his, when the weak Alpha shifted back into his human form, grabbing his open wound. I shifted back into my skin form and bent down to a crouch in front of him.
“Is he dead” I turned to see my mate, naked as the day she was born, come to stand next to me glaring at Vargr.
“No, would you like the honors, my queen” I asked standing from a crouching position to face her.
“No,” she said softly with a slight shake of her head, I just want to watch as he takes his last breath. “End this, my King.”
“Wait, Tala… you don’t…” Vargr began to talk but his words were just noise. There ws nothing he had to say that either of us wanted to hear.
I crouched down next to him again, bending and taking his head in my hands. Before I broke his neck I whispered to him “You fucked with the wrong Gladiator, you are nothing, you die as nothing.” With that I twisted my wrists and snapped his neck, hearing his spine separate from his skull as I did. I let go of his head, his body limp, and his eyes open and dark from death. I stood up next to my mate.
“I wanted to laugh in his face when he died, but I couldn’t do it,” Tala spoke quietly, her words had a befuddled tone to them. Like she couldn’t figure out why wasn’t laughing or why she couldn’t, she stood there staring down at the dead Alpha.
I took her in my arms, pushing her head into my chest and kissing the top of her head. “I don’t think we ever act the way we think we would or should in the face of death,” I said dropping another kiss on her head. “Death is disturbing and dark; it creates emotions we didn’t think we would feel. Do not trouble yourself over his death.”
“Your highness!” Both Tala and I turned towards Jasper as he ran towards us. I growled and pushed Tala’s naked form behind mine, warning him to not look at my mate.
Jasper dropped his eyes to the ground but flitted them to where Vargr’s lifeless form lay and let out a huge exhale of breath, the visible tension rolling off of him when he saw he was dead. It was then I noticed the silence in the blood-soaked air. The fighting had ceased. They had all felt the connection to their Alpha snap. The fight was over.
“Princess! Princess!” The maid who had opened the front door came running towards us with a blanket. Wrapping it around Tala as soon as she was close enough.
Tala hugged the old woman, who began to stroke her hair, “Shh, it is over now.” She told her.
“My mother” Tala asked still hugging her “She, she…”
“She took her own life. She heard what Vargr was going to do and jumped from the bell tower, hoping it would create a distraction and weaken him so you could get away. She did it for you Tala. I am so sorry.” The old woman began to weep “Your mother was too sad to stay in this world any longer.”
Tala moved from the old woman’s embrace and nodded her head. She had no tears but I could see the mortification she held in the way her posture curved. “I know,” she sighed. “What now” She asked looking at me and then Jasper.
“Here, Stop showing off your title,” Mike chuckled throwing some shorts at me as he just turned up to the scene. “Hunji and Cameron are rounding up Vargr’s army.”
“They surrendered when they felt the link to their Alpha snap,” Jasper said while I slipped on the shorts and moved over to take Tala from the old woman’s arms and bring her into mine, where she belonged.
“Now Jasper cleans house and starts putting this kingdom back together. The way it was meant to be.” I answered my mate's question, holding her tight against me. I was never letting her go again, I was never going to let her out of my sight again. I almost felt sorry for my mate. Now that I had her, there was no way my wolf nor I wanted to be away from her ever again, that possessive Alpha instinct kicking into full gear.
When we walked into the palace, Mildred the old woman leading the way, Jasper already had men cleaning up the remaining bodies and bloodied floor and I could smell food being cooked in the kitchen.
“Princess, the kitchen has already started preparing food for all the men. Once things have been settled it will be laid out in the main dining hall for them to eat as they please.” The old woman told us once we had reached the main part of the palace, where a grand staircase stood leading up to a few more floors. “Also we have made provisions for the King's army, to bathe and rest, my husband will make sure they know where to go.”
“Thank you, Mildred, for everything,” Tala said giving her a slight nod of the head.
“Why don’t you and the King, go wash up before the meal is ready.” She said, winking at me and my mate.
It seemed strange that there would be a happy vibe in the air, that no one was mourning. If I hadn't been here myself you would never think this palace had just had a battle and lives had been lost. Was Vargr's rule that bad, that people were actually happy he had died and would celebrate The staff here had organized and prepared for victory.
“Okay” She giggled back at the old maid, her cheeks holding a slight blush. “This way, my King,” She smiled taking me by the hand and leading me towards the stairs.
Tala brought me to a modest-looking room, with simple décor, a queen-sized bed, a dresser, and a vanity. The walls were white but the bedding was in light shades of blue and pink. I was guessing this was her room. It was confirmed when she shyly asked “I hope you don’t think I was being too presumptuous by bringing you to my room”
I smirked, turning it into a fully-fledged smile as I pulled her by the hand I was holding and brought her up against me. “That depends on what you are being bold about, my little flame.” I rasped looking into those striking blue irises of hers, licking my lips.
She bit her lip and her pale skin flushed with color. When she tried to avert her eyes from me in embarrassment I caught her chin between my finger and thumb and tilted her head up towards me. Her tiny frame quivered and I felt the goosebumps break out all over her arms that held on to the blanket tightly. “Those are my lips to bite,” I told her and then stooped down to capture them with mine.
Her mouth parted immediately, welcoming my tongue as I deepened the kiss and angled my head so my tongue could delve deeper into her sweet-tasting mouth. I felt her breath hitch and she let out a little moan at the heated and passionate moment we were sharing.
I growled when the scent of her excitement reached my nostrils, my cock hardening in the thin short, ready to claim our mate. My hands moved to play with the edge of the blanket, ready to unwrap my prize when Mike's voice invaded my thoughts. *Kellen, you need to come back down here* He said.
*Not now! I’m busy!* I growled back. Wanting time alone with my mate to worship her, to explore her, to claim her. I had waited long enough.
*I’m sorry man, you know I wouldn’t interrupt if it wasn’t important…*
*Fucking deal with it Mike, there can’t be anything that’s that…*
*Tobias found Oliver.*
“FUCK!” I groaned aloud, starling Tala and making her jump. I didn’t realize I had growled too. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. My Beta just mind-linked me, they found Oliver. I have to deal with him.” I reluctantly let go of my mate, internally scolding myself for not putting up a block. “Wait here for me, I will be done with that snake quickly.”
We had been looking for Oliver for three years now, there was no way I was missing this opportunity to rip his head off. I didn’t rip Vargr’s off, only because Tala was standing there, otherwise, I would have and then put it on a fucking spike in the middle of that dang arena. I pecked Tala on the lips and then left her room. Pissed might I add.
“You seriously have bad fucking timing!” I chastised Mike as I got back down to the courtyard where Mike, Hunji, Jasper, Rogue, and Tobias, who was holding a very defeated and sorrowful-looking Oliver by the scruff of his neck.
“Wolf King!” Tobias greeted me with a wide grin, “Look what I got for you. Almost killed him myself. Went out of the palace, back to where our trucks are sitting, and look who came crawling out of a rock. Like really came crawling out from under a rock” He laughed.
They already had him in silver cuffs, but he didn’t look roughed up at all. “I thought about beating the shit out of him, but… I figured you owed him all fun, call it an early birthday present.” Tobias answered my unasked question, ending the sentence with a wink.
“Oliver, Oliver, what to do you with you” I sneered “It would be so easy to rip your heart out, or your head off. I could slowly torture you” I contemplated how I wanted to kill him for a moment “Maybe you would prefer the torture I know how much you enjoyed that when you and Silas held MacTire.”
“Do what you will King Kellen, I deserve it.” Oliver didn’t even try to plead for his life. He obviously knew this is how it would end: Me and him, a million miles from where he killed my parents and I would still get to kill him.
Oliver wouldn’t look me in the eye, keeping his head low, accepting his fate. As he should. It had been a long time coming.
